II.  Objectives:

  • Upon discussion and viewing the video, students will support an argument for or against the death penalty providing evidence and reasoning.
  • Examine social deviance and the sanctions society places upon them.

III.  Project: – Due Wednesday 12/13/16 (Two People Groups/Video 3 people)-(30 summative)

A.  Public Awareness Poster or Video to inform and discourage teenagers:

30 summative points

  • An original, catchy slogan 0-4 pts
  • Strong, attention grabbing visuals (at least 8) demonstrating the social problem.  0-8 pts
  • A chart, table or graph with statistical findings directly related to the topic and demonstrating how it impacts society. 0-4 pts
  • Presentation, discussion and explanation. Flows smoothly, understands the issues and has data on why it is relevant and how it impacts society. 0-6 pts
  • Explain and examine multiple preventative measures or actions to implement.  0-4 pts
  • Eye pleasing, large, easy to read, and colorful. 0-4 pts

B.  Topics may include, but are not limited to:

  • Alcohol
  • Drug Usage (Must pick a specific drug)
  • Teenage Pregnancy
  • Teenage Sexual Behavior
  • Bullying/Cyberbullying
  • Teenage Suicide

IV.  Video:  Fault Lines – Politics of Death Row

A.  Questions & Answers

  1. What is your view on capital punishment? Explain
  2. Are there certain crimes that you believe would justify the death penalty?  Explain.
  3. What is your view on life sentences? Explain
  4. If the offender is a minor does your opinion change? Explain
  5. If the offender has a mental disorder does your opinion change? Explain

B.  State and refute the counterclaim to your belief on capital punishment. Provide reasoning which demonstrates its flaws. 1- paragraph (4 pts)
