Boo Grams!

Dear Parents,

The first grade is doing a fundraiser to sell “Boo Grams” and raise money for their school field trip. If your child wants to buy a Boo Gram for a friend in their class please send in the money tomorrow and I can get it to the first grade teachers. IT is easier if the students just give it directly to me instead of having to worry about handling the money at lunch! Please read the flyer and have the appropriate amount of money and the names/classes filled out ahead of time πŸ™‚ Thank you for your help!

*Halloween:

YES we will be celebrating Halloween this year in school!!! Mr. Farhat our principal is letting all students k-5 dress up woohoo! However, all day is tough for our kids to be in the costumes and some are too cold for outside at lunch! So, please send your child’s costume to school in a big bag with their name on it so they can change after lunch! Our kids also have gym after lunch at 11:30, so you can imagine how hard it will be for little princesses to exercise in their gowns lol! I am also welcoming all families to come on in at 12: 15 to help us get changed and celebrate! We are hoping to take the kids outside around 2:00 pm for a parade on the track for all families to see!!!

In our classroom we would really appreciate any donations for food and decor. Here is a small list of things we could use some help with for Monday. Please hit reply and I will take the first parents who reply online! Thank you in advance for your help and generosity it should be so much fun!!!

23 juice boxes

23 apples

23 donuts

a spool of plastic ribbon to wrap donuts

long rods or broomsticks to hang the donuts for a game! Promise you can take them back home unless you don’t want to sweep anymore lol!

face painting packages (3)

6 black, orange or Halloween themed table cloths

4 or 5 $5 pizzas (a couple parents could go together on this)

Writing Focus: All about me and transportation in my neighborhood (detailed pictures and labeling pics)

Science: Becoming a Scientist and Five Senses

*We were lucky to have a visiting pre-student teacher come to our room last week to teach a lesson about the sense of “smell”. THANK YOU to Mujtaba’s mom and her partner from the University of Michigan for teaching us with such a fun and hands on experiment!

Important News:

*This Wednesday is our library check out day so please make sure that your darling has their library book in their backpack Tuesday night ready to go! Thank you for your help!

*Weather is getting colder! Please make sure to send your child to school in clothing that can be layered and taken off if hot instead of shivering outside! A good idea would be to write their names in the tags inside so we can figure out who it belongs to if lost! I have a blue Jean Jacket in the classroom that nobody claimed but I think it belongs to one of our students. If your child is missing a Jean coat please see me πŸ™‚

*Gym is on Monday and Friday so make sure to dress in the appropriate clothing and shoes these days!

Time sure flies πŸ™‚ We also had a wonderful block party and got to know many new neighbors on our street. To finish the weekend, we went to Wiard’s Orchard in Ypsilanti with our family and watch our son play soccer. It was such a beautiful weekend. I hope this message finds you all well. Here is what is cooking this week in room 111:

Letter of the week: B bΒ  (please continue to study word cards, letter cards and read for pleasure nightly with your child) The new letter β€œBb” homework assignment will go home this week. This is due on Friday as always.

Word of the week: he

Please be able to read and write these words if your child has started receiving flash cards from the β€œgreen list” which is list one on the individualized spelling program.

Names: Many students are making a lot of growth with their name writing! Please continue to work on writing their first and last names at home each night with one capital for the beginning of each word.

Homework: Well homework is in full swing and I couldn’t be more proud of our class. Go 111! I am busy looking over all the assignments that were turned in, but promise you’ll be getting the booklets back this week (I’ll keep the phonics letter pages). THANK YOU for being so amazing with the homework! The kids were so proud to turn them in Friday!

PBIS: This week on Friday, we will have our first “kick off” assembly for PBIS to get the children excited about working hard to stay on green, be good citizens and help each other.

Mrs. Ross πŸ™‚

Lunch Forms

Dear families,

I have been informed that there was a mix up in the cafeteria with what order forms they gave the office for us to send home pertaining to free/reduced lunch. They apologized and asked if you could fill out the forms AGAIN if they come back to you today and send them in as soon as possible! Thank you for your patience and understanding. This is all I know about that department, sorry I am not much of a help here but I will be passing them along to you…

Mrs. Ross πŸ™‚

Homework Reminder

Hello my wonderful families!

Just a reminder that your child’s homework is due tomorrow. They should be returning one letter “T t” paper with three cut out pictures that begin with the letter “T t” and also the first week of the “October homework calendar”. There was a little tiny recording packet I placed in their homework folder on Monday. I hope it was helpful!

*Yesterday was our second day of media check out. Your child was able to check out a new book from the library if they returned their book from two weeks ago! Remember to enjoy this book at home, but to place it back in the backpack at night and not let other little hands grab at them (if they like to rip books as much at my daughter Antonia does ahh!!!!). I will remind you the next time we go to place them there the night before again because we go only twice a month.

Thank you for your support with everything you are doing! This week I was able to update all the students on their letter and word ID and SOOO many students are learning more letters yay room 111!!!! Keep up the great work! I have underlined 5 letters for your child to focus on next (check the alphabet chart ID card in front of the homework folder) so it is less to master at once. Sunday’s blog post will have some cute pics with ideas to practice letter ID work and also our science investigations with apples and the 5 senses!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Ross πŸ™‚

Week of 10-2-2016

Greetings Aviator Families of room 111!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! The Ross family enjoyed visiting with family and friends at my brother in law’s wedding in Lansing. Homework: We got almost ALL homework assignments last week and I am SO proud of our class! Please continue working hard on these assignments the students were beaming with pride this week over their hard work! In addition, this month our class will begin our official “homework” calendar. I will be copying then on the back of the PBIS behavior notes and you can just turn them over to find out that to do that night! Each night, your child is to complete one meaningful question pertaining to varying subjects such as math and reading. The assignments are sent home on Monday nights and to be returned and completed on Friday mornings for the teacher to check and give her juicy stars! Homework on the weekend will only consist of reading for 10 minutes a night as well as letter and sight word practice.

PBIS: This week our anti-bullying program officially begins. Although our kindergartners are still “learning” we are working harder each day to work towards a goal of more green this month! If your child hasΒ  earned it they will attendΒ  reward day at the end of this month. I am so excited to see how many of our wonderful students make it! I just wanted to take a minute here to THANK YOU ALL for all the hard work you do raising such fine boys and girls. This classroom of mine is simply a JOY to work with and I look forward to working with them each day and seeing their smiling and eager faces is amazing.

Language Arts: This week we will continue building our stamina for Daily 5 and introduce a second choice called “work on writing”. I am so happy with the progress of the class so far. They are so motivated and adorable when we practice our letters and sounds and new words! we have been googling for free off of youtube and typing in: Letter ___ song have fun teaching video and also the “and” song Have Fun Teaching video. With your help, your child will enjoy practicing reading these words and letters at home! Students got their reading packs last week. Please continue using the materials in side each night and then returning them for school each day.

Media: This week is our library check out day! So please make sure your child’s library book is in their backpacks on Tuesday night. Thank you for your help!

Science: This week we will read a book about a little girl who is very inquisitive and what it means to be a scientist. We will begin our unit on being a scientist, using tools, and the five senses. This week we will explore our 5 senses with apples!

I’m sure there will be more updates throughout the week. Have a great evening and see you all bright and early Monday morning!

Mrs. Ross πŸ™‚

Media Check Out!

Last week we checked out our books for the first time this year! This post is to notify you that the media center is letting kindergarten bring their library books home for the two weeks. We will be checking out books twice a month so this week we will NOT be checking them out. Monday night your child will bring their book home in their backpack. PLEASE make sure that your child reads this books in a good spot away from little brothers and sisters. My own son can not be ANYWHERE near my 17 mo old daughter because she just LOVES to rip and destroy his books πŸ™ It’s amazing how well she even tears apart cardboard board books!

Please make sure that next Tuesday night you place the book back in your child’s backpack in order for them to be able to check out another book Wednesday morning. Any lost or severely damaged books will need to be replaced by the child’s family so please help your child be responsible with school property. Make sure that any water bottles and juice boxes are NOT open and near the books. My son and I learned this the hard way with apple juice πŸ™ Enjoy reading!
