Dear Families,

Wow it is one windy day as I sit down and work on school planning! I hope this message finds you all well and grounded! We had SUCH a fantastic time at the Detroit Zoo on Friday and once again I’d like to thank all of the parents who came out to help chaperone and join us on the trip. The kids were engaged and so excited about animals and technology and it was a joy to be there. I have taken some pictures in my group and would love to share any pictures you have taken of your groups as well. Here is everything you need to know for this week so far. If there are any modifications or new info I’ll update you as soon as possible. Have a wonderful week!

Dear Families,

I am so happy to share our wonderful day with you all tonight! We had an AMAZING 100th Day today and we want to thank all of you for your support and help making it so fun! We enjoyed making 100 Day necklaces with 100 fruit loops on them, sharing our 100 Day Collection posters and so many cool 100 day themed stations! Who knew that 100 year old people could exercise so well! The girls and boys looked adorable and we had a blast dressing up. Enjoy the pictures, and THANK YOU once again to all the parents for your donations and hard work on the adorable 100s day collection posters. Thank you to Cameran’s, Paisley’s, Johnny’s, Kaydin’s, Morgen’s, and Reece’s moms for working so hard in all our stations to make it so fun and run so smoothly!

Our little old people 🙂 May they stay this young at heart forever and never wrinkle…

Dear Families,

Thank you to all families that have turned in the permission slips and photo permission slip back to me! We have pulled the names for the chaperones coming with us on the bus. I want to THANK all of you so much for volunteering your time to join us on the 22nd. I wish we could take you all with us on the bus and in the education building. If you would still like to meet us there we’d love to send you a text message when we are about to finish in the education building and meet you out front of it. You can then join your child’s group to enjoy the rest of the trip. (All children will have to go to and from with the teacher on the bus.) Please let us know if you are unable to make it to the trip on 2-22-2019 and we will be sure to contact another parent to chaperone a group.

100th Day Rescheduled!

Image result for babies dressed up like old people for the 100th dayDear Families,

Just a reminder that tomorrow is our backup 100th Day celebration. It will take place in room 106 from 1:30 pm to approximately 3:00 pm. Thank you all for being so flexible and helping us dress in our best “old” clothing theme. We are excited to share it with you and welcome you to join us in dressing like you are 100 yrs old too!

*Reminder that Thursday you child is welcome to bring in a Valentine to pass to the class. Please make sure any treat that goes along with your card is individually wrapped. We have 21 students in the class! Due to the short morning and gym class we will not make it a big party. We will do all out partying on Wednesday 🙂

*please keep an eye out for the weather and school closings-it looks like we will get some winter storms headed our way. In case of school closings, we will have the 100th day party the following day of school.

Dear Families,

Hip hip hooray the 100th day AND Valentine’s Day are coming! We are going to have a short but busy week. Here is everything you need to know. If there are any modifications or new info I’ll update you as soon as possible. I will send any updates of school information as they come. Have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Ross 🙂

Thursday February 14th: Half day for students (Make sure Valentine’s Day cards come to school with your child in the morning!) with an AM dismissal at 11:45 am.

NO School/Mid-Winter Break: Friday, February 15th and Monday, February 18th

100th Day:  Tuesday we will celebrate our 100th Day of school! Feel free to join us for some fun stations in the afternoon from about 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm. You child is encouraged (but no pressure) to dress up as the 100 year old version of themselves. This is easy to do if your child wears their own clothing, and mom helps draw a few lines on their face with an eyeliner pencil for wrinkles and makes their hair grey with baby powder or costume spray! Girls can wear their hair in buns, little sweaters over dresses, socks over tights and rollers in their hair. In the past boys have worn track suits, collard shirts and sweater vests, suspenders, bow ties and fake glasses and slicked their hair back 🙂 When my son was in kindergarten I found it helpful to google 100th Day old people on Google. I also got him some fake glasses from CVS in the pharmacy lol! We will be doing 100th day themed activities sprinkled throughout the day and enjoy a 100th day trail mix snack. I have decided to purchase all the supplies for the trail mix snack this weekend to make it easier so there will NOT be a sign up genius going home. I think it would be fun to order some pizza for the kiddos for after the stations so it you would like to donate something for the celebration they can bring in $1 towards the pizza but no pressure. Thank you in advance for your generosity! I apologize if this has caused any confusion. Thank you all for your help making our 100th Day so special! I am SO excited to see your child’s 100th Day posters this week!

*Station Volunteers: We are going to need 6 parent volunteers to run our six stations at the 100th Day Celebration. If you are interested, please reply below 🙂 If we have more than 6 parents interested that’s wonderful because they could use more than one parent to help at them! Thank you in advance for your help and support as ALWAYS!

Valentine’s Day: Thursday is Valentine’s Day! If your child would like to bring in a Valentine for the class that would be so kind of them 🙂 We have 21 students in our class and the easiest way to do this is to just simply write “from (your child’s name)” on the card. If your child would like to include a small treat with it, please make sure that they are individually wrapped and small enough to fit into a paper lunch bag.

Field Trip: Thank you SO much to all the students that have turned in their field trip permission slips and media consent form last week! We have almost all of them 🙂 Tomorrow in school, we will be picking the chaperones from a hat so make sure they are in. We are allowed four parents with us in the educational center, but don’t worry you can still drive separately and join afterwards to walk around the zoo! We will simple text you when we are done and you can meet us in front of the education building and join your child’s group! Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to chaperone the trip we are such a lucky class.

Homework: This week your child will receive a math game to put in their math binder and the next 5 lessons in math.

*Popcorn: No school on Friday or Monday for mid winter break so popcorn will resume after the break.

*Library check out: This week we have check out. Please help your child place their books in the backpacks Monday night!

*Reading Packs: Make sure your child is spending about 10-15 minutes reading at night on Raz-Kids and the books, letters/words you find in the reading packs. This will help your child SO much reviewing their personal bags each night! All bags have been switched so make sure you child is practicing books they receive this week.

LA Books: Informational books and books about kindness this month.

LLI Reading Program: This week we will begin the second round of LLI instruction. If your child is exiting the program you will receive a note from the teacher. I will also be sending a note if your child will begin working with myself and Mrs. Pelaccio for the second half of the school year. THANK YOU to all of the families for taking SUCH good care of the leveled books so that we could all share them.

Writing Topic: This week we will continue writing letters to make a card for someone we love. In addition, we will be writing about when we are 100 years old to accompany our 100th day celebration!

Spelling-et family (*bet, *jet, *let, set, *wet, net, let, get, met, pet, set) Test will be Thursday morning because of the short week!

Sight Words: put, on (also on spelling test Thursday for extra bonus points)

-words with a * are definitely on the test, I will add two cold words to make a total of 6 words on the spelling test on Fridays. I have included many -et words though because we always work on as many as we can think of during Daily 5 literacy lessons 🙂 The class is doing SO well with these! In addition there will be the two “sight words of the week” to make sure we keep learning the sight words on the Dolch List!

Week of 1-28-2019

Dear Families,

I hope this message finds you all well and warm! Tonight Report cards will be coming home in your child’s homework folder. Yesterday we completed the Reading NWEA assessment and today we completed our Math NWEA assessment. Reports are not available for me to print for 24 hours, so I will be sending the printed reports next week!(The “Reading and Math Level” on the report card are still reflective of the first semester because the NWEA testing window is still open. The district will update the new scores from the January tests will be on the third report card). I am very proud of our class. Overall, we are improving in all our subjects and you will see an increase in scores. Yay for our efforts and hard work! Thank you again for all you do with your child at home to support their academic and social growth. If your child was absent last week or today then they will make up their assessment as soon as they return! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Stay warm!

(Students will work with the teacher on a specific “word family” each week and be assessed on Fridays each week (or Mondays if the week is short/or extra time is needed due to unexpected snow/cold days off). You will receive the results in the homework folders on Monday afternoons. Words will be posted on the blog each Sunday/or Friday. It would be beneficial to spend a few minutes each night working on reading and writing the words (and most importantly helping your child to see the first letter/sound is the only one manipulated to make the new word and because of this they all rhyme).
