Dear parents,

Please take a moment of your time to fill out this kindergarten parent survey to help us better serve your child in preschool years. Just click on the link above that says “Kindergarten Parent Survey” and complete it online!

This will greatly help our preschool program and help your children get ready for kindergarten in the future! I will also send home a paper copy this week. Thank you in advance for your help.

Thank you to all the parents that have come to help us today and enjoy our Halloween stations and parade. The kids and I LOVE having you here. We want to wish Ayman Hijazi a Happy Birthday today, he has turned the big 5!

I wanted to send a reminder that our picture day is on Monday, November 2nd, 2016. We are NOT sure about what time the pictures will be so make sure your child is dressed in something warm to go outside for recess and wearing the proper shoes for gym class on Monday!

You can always pre order your child’s pictures online and then send in a printed receipt if you choose.

That’s all for now, more to come on Monday morning!

Mrs. Ross 🙂

Halloween Activities!

Greetings room 111 families!

Tomorrow is our Halloween celebration. Here’s what you need to remember one more time:

*Students will BRING costumes to school and change at 1:00 pm (NO weapons or masks!)

*Students will participate in classroom activities beginning at 1:00 pm. Parents are welcome at 1:00pm!

*2:00 pm students will parade through the elementary school showing off their costumes (parents are welcome)

Students may pass out candy in our classroom (we have 29 students and each piece should be individually wrapped)

Dismissal is at 3:00 pm as usual from our classroom. Have a safe and happy Halloween this weekend!

Math Workshop Volunteers…Thank you!

I just wanted say a BIG thank you to all the parent volunteers that helped make our math workshop fun and engaging yesterday! Thank you to Bashir’s mom, Jad’s mom, Hadi Hajj’s mom, Mariam’s mom, Zayn’s mom, Yara’s mom, Adam Shawhatti’s mom, Ali’s mom and Zayd’s grandma! Thank you for giving us your time and support!

My wish is that we will have a continued stream of parent volunteers for various subjects all year. So, if you were NOT able to volunteer this week, or so far this year, it is NOT too late!

My goal is to have hands on assistance in the classroom which will translate to higher achievement. When you volunteer you will see first hand the way we learn and you can take our classroom strategies back home. Please help us achieve our goals this year.

With gratitude,

Mrs. Ross

Week of October 26th, 2015

Hello Families of 111,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! This is going to be a very spooky week in room 111 as many of our lessons have a Halloween theme 🙂

Homework packets are being collected Monday morning and you will receive the new one. Remember new packets are due on November 9th, 2015.

Letter Study: H, h

*In Zoo-Phonics the letter H stands for a horse. So when practicing the movement with your child we use our hands to make the sounds of the horses hooves by patting on our thighs.

Word Study: the, to

(students will be tested on Friday to see if they know this word. Your child will ONLY be tested if they are already able to write their name! Until they master their first name that will be their spelling word)

Number Study: 7 and all combinations of seven

Counting: all objects to the number 5 (10 if you child can do this!) counting to 100 by 1s and 10s and writing all numbers from 0-5 (0-10 if your child can do this as well!)

Please continue to do DAILY practice with these cards about 10 minutes with the letter flash cards and movements! This is a HUGE help when your child is sounding out words for writer’s workshop.

Homework:

read for 10-15 minutes on Raz-Kids or personal books from home

Practice letter flash cards (about 10-15 minutes)

counting to 100 by 1s and 10s

counting objects to practice 1 to 1 matching

Wednesday, we would LOVE to have 7 parents in our classroom to run math stations! I already have three and want to thank Mrs. Bias, Mrs. Bouzeid and Mrs. Hajj. We will see you at 1:00pm we can’t wait 🙂

Halloween: We will be enjoying a class celebration on Friday where we are enjoying fun educational Halloween themed stations! We will also be having a small parade this year at 2:00 pm. If parents would like to come to the stations or parade you are welcome to join us. Please reply below and remember to sign in at the office on Friday before coming down. In addition, if your child would like to bring in a costume to wear remember NO masks, or weapons! If your child would like to bring in a treat for their friends we have 29 students. Make sure all treats are individually wrapped!

I would like to wish you all a happy and safe Halloween week and weekend. If there is anything I can do for you please let me know!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Ross

*Remember we have gym on Monday and Friday so wear the proper gym attire and shoes.

Greetings!

Today we enjoyed playing a few math games. One was on www.abcya.com check out our helpful resources page and you can click on the link to play the birthday counting candle game! Right now counting objects and showing a 1:1 correspondence is so important so why not have fun while working. Enjoy!

Week of 10-19-2015

Hello Families of 111,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! As October rolls along here is what you can expect this week in kindergarten.

Homework packets are being collected Monday morning and you will receive the new one. Remember 100% of the packets need to be completed to remain on green! So far we are off to a great start. Please continue to review your child’s behavior sheet every night and SIGN THEM! We are nearing the end of the month already and the kindergarten teachers have planned an AWESOME reward day. I want to see all my students faces there!

Letter Study: N,n

Word Study: the (students will be tested on Friday to see if they know this word. Your child will ONLY be tested if they are already able to write their name! Until they master their first name that will be their spelling word)

Number Study: 6 and all combinations of six

Counting: all objects to the number 5 (10 if you child can do this!) counting to 100 by 1s and 10s and writing all numbers from 0-5 (0-10 if your child can do this as well!)

This week I will begin strategy groups in Daily 5, so look for small “reading bags” to start coming home this week! In the bags your child will receive an alphabet chart. PLEASE practice this every night! You can point to each letter square with your child and say, ex. “A ahh alligator, B buhh bear” etc. Then, I will include flash cards for the letters that your child needs to master still. DAILY practice with these cards about 10 minutes will make the world of a difference.

I also want your child to read EVERY night with you for 10 minutes right now. Remember there are three ways to read a book and reading the pictures is one of them! This week I will be opening up Razkids for my classroom and they are going to love it! Look in their homework folders for directions and a note from the website. It is really easy to use and your child will greatly benefit from working on this site daily.

If any parents are willing to volunteer for math workshop or science this week we’d LOVE to have you. This week we will be opening up small pie pumpkins, adding soil and watering them. We are going to make predictions and observe them grow! Math is every day at 1:00pm and science is around 2:00pm after math workshop.

*After a small issue with scholastic our order has been placed and will arrive soon! I apologize for the delay and am excited to receive the books I ordered for the class as well 🙂

*Remember we have gym on Monday and Friday so wear the proper gym attire and shoes.

Reminders…

Thank you to Mrs. Biaz again today for volunteering to work with us during math workshop and during library checkout! We practiced counting to 10 on the IXL website today. Your child would greatly benefit from practicing counting 1 to 1 objects every night from household objects or this website. Check out the resources page for the login information!

Tonight your child is bringing home their first library book. They will keep this book at home away from their personal books until the first week of November. Remember our students will be responsible for any ripped or lost books so be “responsible” aviators and enjoy reading!

Remember tomorrow is a half day! Your child can dress up in Michigan or Michigan State clothing if they love one of the football teams. Dismissal will be from our classroom door at 11:10 am.

*Weather is getting COLD! Please remember to send you child to school with a winter coat from now on. If it’s too cold your child will not be able to enjoy lunch recess (the lunch staff will keep them inside the cafeteria).
