Wayne County Regional Enhancement Education Millage Proposal

School districts in Wayne County have placed a proposal on the November 8th ballot to provide added funding for our schools. It is the “Regional Enhancement Millage Proposal.”

If approved by the entire county, the 2 mil proposal will generate approximately $6.2 million from Dearborn but the District will receive $7.8 million in additional funding for our schools.  Money would go to local schools starting this year and the millage expires after six years.  Continue reading »

You made it a HUGE SUCCESS and we had a blast. I just know you all had such a great time making those pumpkins (lol) but they were just gorgeous thank you for your help 🙂

Reminders:

*Tomorrow is library check out, so please make sure your child has their library book ready to go tonight in their backpacks!

*Picture day envelopes went home today! Our picture day is this week on Thursday, so make sure your child is looking sharp and dressed appropriately for the weather. If anyone needs help filling out the envelopes, please bring them to me after school tomorrow instead of Thursday morning. I’m always here to help 🙂 But, please have exact change. I won’t have it and the office never does…eek!

*Homework: The kindergarten teachers and I decided to give your child another day to rest and recuperate from all the crazy candy and trick-or-treating yesterday! So relax and read with your child tonight and get to sleep early 🙂 Homework packets will be waiting for you tomorrow, and they can be turned in on Friday if they are done, or on Monday instead if you wish 🙂

Hope this message finds you well,

Happy November!

Boo Grams!

Dear Parents,

The first grade is doing a fundraiser to sell “Boo Grams” and raise money for their school field trip. If your child wants to buy a Boo Gram for a friend in their class please send in the money tomorrow and I can get it to the first grade teachers. IT is easier if the students just give it directly to me instead of having to worry about handling the money at lunch! Please read the flyer and have the appropriate amount of money and the names/classes filled out ahead of time 🙂 Thank you for your help!

Greetings room 111 Families!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed your half day on Friday 🙂 Here is what you need to know for this week in kindergarten!

Letter of the Week: ‘N n’

Word of the week: Last week we focused on “see” more than “he” so I am bumping “he” to this week!

Poem(s) of the Week: “Jack-be-Nimble”

LA Focus: Transportation and Non Fiction Books/Elements

Writing Focus: All about me and transportation in my neighborhood (detailed pictures and labeling pics)

Math: Unit 2 Numbers 1-10 (Note for Unit 2 is going home Monday to give an overview of the new unit) Unit 1 post tests will be sent home so you can see how well your child did on an individual snapshot of unit 1.

Social Studies: Unit 1 Getting Along with Others (continue)

Science: Becoming a Scientist and Five Senses

*We were lucky to have a visiting pre-student teacher come to our room last week to teach a lesson about the sense of “smell”. THANK YOU to Mujtaba’s mom and her partner from the University of Michigan for teaching us with such a fun and hands on experiment!

Important News:

*This Wednesday is our library check out day so please make sure that your darling has their library book in their backpack Tuesday night ready to go! Thank you for your help!

*Weather is getting colder! Please make sure to send your child to school in clothing that can be layered and taken off if hot instead of shivering outside! A good idea would be to write their names in the tags inside so we can figure out who it belongs to if lost! I have a blue Jean Jacket in the classroom that nobody claimed but I think it belongs to one of our students. If your child is missing a Jean coat please see me 🙂

*Gym is on Monday and Friday so make sure to dress in the appropriate clothing and shoes these days!

If there is anything else I’ll let you know this week. Have a wonderful week 🙂

Mrs. Ross 🙂

Lunch Forms

Dear families,

I have been informed that there was a mix up in the cafeteria with what order forms they gave the office for us to send home pertaining to free/reduced lunch. They apologized and asked if you could fill out the forms AGAIN if they come back to you today and send them in as soon as possible! Thank you for your patience and understanding. This is all I know about that department, sorry I am not much of a help here but I will be passing them along to you…

Homework Reminder

Hello my wonderful families!

Just a reminder that your child’s homework is due tomorrow. They should be returning one letter “T t” paper with three cut out pictures that begin with the letter “T t” and also the first week of the “October homework calendar”. There was a little tiny recording packet I placed in their homework folder on Monday. I hope it was helpful!

*Yesterday was our second day of media check out. Your child was able to check out a new book from the library if they returned their book from two weeks ago! Remember to enjoy this book at home, but to place it back in the backpack at night and not let other little hands grab at them (if they like to rip books as much at my daughter Antonia does ahh!!!!). I will remind you the next time we go to place them there the night before again because we go only twice a month.

Thank you for your support with everything you are doing! This week I was able to update all the students on their letter and word ID and SOOO many students are learning more letters yay room 111!!!! Keep up the great work! I have underlined 5 letters for your child to focus on next (check the alphabet chart ID card in front of the homework folder) so it is less to master at once. Sunday’s blog post will have some cute pics with ideas to practice letter ID work and also our science investigations with apples and the 5 senses!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Ross 🙂

Media Check Out!

Last week we checked out our books for the first time this year! This post is to notify you that the media center is letting kindergarten bring their library books home for the two weeks. We will be checking out books twice a month so this week we will NOT be checking them out. Monday night your child will bring their book home in their backpack. PLEASE make sure that your child reads this books in a good spot away from little brothers and sisters. My own son can not be ANYWHERE near my 17 mo old daughter because she just LOVES to rip and destroy his books 🙁 It’s amazing how well she even tears apart cardboard board books!

Please make sure that next Tuesday night you place the book back in your child’s backpack in order for them to be able to check out another book Wednesday morning. Any lost or severely damaged books will need to be replaced by the child’s family so please help your child be responsible with school property. Make sure that any water bottles and juice boxes are NOT open and near the books. My son and I learned this the hard way with apple juice 🙁 Enjoy reading!

New Homework Addition! Yipee!!!

9-20-2016

Dear parents,

I just know you are ALL dying for more ideas and activities to work with your child at home right?!? Well here it is! I am finished making small individualized cards for your child to practice the LETTERS/SOUNDS of the alphabet. Your child’s card is to LIVE in the front of their homework folder because this is to be done nightly for about 20 minutes. Please practice the capital and lowercase letters on the card first, because these are your child’s “unknown” letters. Also, please practice the animal sound each one makes and the body movements. Your child should know how to make the movements but I will also send home a copy this week just in case they forget! There is a cool song we do this to called “Dr. Jean Lettercise” on youtube if you want to add music and movement to the activity. When your child has mastered all 52 letters and 26 sounds in the alphabet plus their name I will switch the card to a color coded sight word program with the 220 Dolch Sight words. So, begin tonight practicing the letters and sounds in the bag and make sure you  place them in your child’s BACKPACK for tomorrow. NOT the homework folder because it will be too bulky and could rip. I will also be handing out our letter/sight word/reading packs this week so letter bags will go in there at that time.

*We need your help! ALL the cards are yellow ahhhh and there are 21 students in the class. Please take some time tonight to either put your child’s first and last name on the back or their classroom “number” that’s on the front of the folder so that if your child’s letter card gets dropped or mixed with another students we will be able to sort them back out. Thank you in advance for your help with this tedious task and the gigantic task of making your child a reader!

*Many students came back excited about their letter ‘Mm” homework yay!!! Remember they are due Friday and need to have THREE pictures on the back with the spelling stretched out underneath them!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Ross 🙂
