Important Events!

Dear Families,

There are still a few very important events that need to be organized for the end of the year! I will be sending home a paper note for some of them this week. However, here is is a message that mister Attee asked us to pass along on the blog about the Veteran’s Day fruit baskets and the ice cream social. I hope you all have a great day. I will be out this afternoon for a district professional development, but will see you all this morning and tomorrow as usual!

-Mrs. Ross 🙂

Hello parents and community members,

Once again DuVall Elementary will be delivering Fruit Baskets to Veteran’s Hospital in Detroit.  This annual event which was lead by Mrs. Strez each year and will carry on this year.  Those who have been involved over the past years know what a rewarding event this is for the children.

The visit to the Veteran’s hospital will be on Wednesday May 23rd.  Prior to the visit, there is a lot of preparation that goes into making this a successful event each year.  Therefore we are creating a sign-up in order to solicit as much help as possible.  Please consider helping out in some way and encouraging your children to participate with decorating fruit trays and making cards.

We still need drivers to pick up the fruit donations from different locations, including some in the downriver area and Detroit on Monday, May 21st in order to help make this project successful!

Click here to volunteer for the Veterans Project and thank you for your support of our school events!

Below is a link to the Sign-Up Genius for the Ice Cream Social! If you’re interested in helping out please sign up! This is our final event of the school year!! Let’s make it a great one!
😊
Thanks in advance!
*Please send the permission slip back to Mrs. Ross as soon as possible for the Yogurtopia field trip! Thank you in advance for all your help!

Thank you to all our beautiful mommies for coming in Friday! We had the most wonderful time with you and it made our day. You ladies (and dads too!) are the reason why we are having such a wonderful year. You are why I love and adore my job and coming to work every day after 13 years of being an educator. You have trusted me to guide these positive, precious, confident, respectful and wonderful children and it’s been a dream come true. I hope you all had a Mother’s Day to remember, and I hope you had a peaceful and restful weekend.

Today as your child gets dressed, remember that our class is wearing light blue shirts for the clean up parade! If your child didn’t purchase the DuVall shirt no worries, any light blue shirt will be great 🙂 have a wonderful day! More to come later…

Love,

Mrs Ross and Class

Babysitting Butterflies!

Monday and Tuesday the preschool class was on field trips and their teachers were not in the building. So, we had the pleasure of babysitting their new little friends! We have been learning about the needs of plants and animals in our science unit so it was a perfect real life experience! We got to see first hand how living things need air, space, water, food and shelter! Here are a few pictures from our visit.

THANK YOU!!!

Dear Families of 106,

I wanted to take a few minutes out today and thank you all for the BEAUTIFUL flowers and cards I have received this week at school. In addition, THANK YOU to the PTA homeroom moms who have worked so hard to make me feel so special and organize these surprises! I am also so appreciative of the beautiful face lift our teacher’s lounge has been given! It looks wonderful and we are so lucky to have such a wonderful PTA here at DuVall. I have NEVER felt so spoiled and sincerely appreciated all that you have done for me this year. I am so truly grateful to have 23 beautiful students who are so loved and cared for by such wonderful families. They come to school every day ready to learn, work so hard and do not ever complain. It is a dream job and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting me be a part of your precious child’s first year in school.

With love and gratitude,

Mrs. Ross

May the 4th Be With You…

Dear Families,

I have learned of a new tradition here at DuVall Elementary called “Star Wars Day”! Tomorrow, May 4th we are allowed and encouraged to wear our Star Wars T-shirts! Mr. Attee just asks that we follow similar Halloween rules and leave all the light sabers and guns/Ewoks at home please. All hand held accessories basically sorry 🙁 I am looking forward though to a really fun day!

My goodness we have already reached the end of April! I can not believe it. I am so proud of all our progress in Kdg and First grade this year! I am seeing my students just “take off” independently and academically and I am the most proud teacher. I also wanted to express my sincere gratitude to my students that nominated me for the “Teacher of the Year”. What an extreme honor it was to sit among all those fine teachers in Dearborn Public Schools last evening! My heart is so full of joy each day I get to teach your children at DuVall, and I thank you for helping me make this year so wonderful in my new home. I have truly made the right choice moving the this wonderful school and each day I count my blessings (there are 23).

Thinking back on the last month, I’d like to thank all of the wonderful moms that helped chaperone the zoo field trip! we had a wonderful time and thank you for braving the zoo in the cold! Hopefully we have turned a corner now and we will just have warmer days until June! As we head into next week, here is what you need to know. I wanted to share with you a quick reminder from Mr. Attee’s iblog about the family Luau tonight at DuVall! I hope you have a wonderful time!

Happy Friday!

DuVall Families,

This is just a reminder that there will be the DuVall Family Luau Friday in the DuVall Gym  from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  The Cost is $25 per family.  There is a cost of $5 per child if they are a younger/older sibling that does not attend DuVall.  You must be a DuVall family with students enrolled in our school to attend this event. There will be a DJ, appetizers, mini desserts, and a keepsake photo.

A Message From the PTA President…

Happy Monday Everyone!

As I’m sitting here typing this letter, I hear birds chirping outside and I’m watching the news as the meteorologist reports we will possibly see some snow today. Anyone else over this crazy weather? I packed away our snow boots and pants weeks ago! There’s no way I’m bringing them back out! If you ever hear me complaining about it being too hot this summer, please pinch me😉.

I wanted to remind you all that during our next PTA meeting that takes place Tuesday May 8th, we will be nominating and electing our 2018-2019 PTA Officers. Those positions include; President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Fundraiser, Memberships and Curriculum. Each current officer may be re-elected if nominated and if they’re interested in continuing on for the next school year. Each board member MUST be nominated and voted in by PTA members. No one is ever automatically voted in as a PTA board member because there is a lack of nominees or votes. If there is no interest shown in a position then that position is simply left as vacant. In case a vacancy occurs in the office of president, the first vice president shall serve notice of the election.

Officers shall be elected by ballot in the month of May. However, if there is but one nominee for any office, election for that office may be by voice vote. Officers shall assume their official duties at the close of the meeting in June, and shall serve for a term of one year and shall remain in office until their successors assume office. You must be present during the meeting to vote, nominate or become a nominee and be a current PTA member.

If you have any further questions regarding the election process or the duties of the officers, please feel free to contact me at any time!

*Join us for our May meeting for a chance to win a Gift Card! You must be present to win*

Thank you all for your continued support!

Have a great week!

PTA President Yasmine Hicks

Chaperones for Field Trip Tomorrow

Dear Room 106 Families,

Thank you all SO very much for volunteering to help us on the field trip tomorrow.  At this time we have chosen and confirmed all 6 parents to join us on the bus. The students helped me pick the names from a bucket today and we just finished picking a few replacement names. We are all excited and wanted to share the list with you. If your name was not chosen though, remember you can still follow the bus,pay upon entry and join your child’s group when we get there. (I have sent back the parent admission money for David and Marco’s moms in their folders today. If there is another mom who needs a reimbursement please let me know I don’t want to keep anyone’s money by mistake!) I have turned in all the money for these 6 moms, teachers and students so we are all set!

ALL parents please make sure to pack your child a small lunch with a drink that can all be easily disposed of in a garbage can and they are NOT left holding there large fabric lunch bags and water bottles. In addition, it will be cold tomorrow, so please make sure to dress in layers with walking shoes and warm coats, hats, gloves etc. Thank you in advance for all your help as always!

Chaperones on the Bus tomorrow:

Mrs. Saylor (Malynn’s mom)

Mrs. Soofi (Nada Said’s mom)

Mrs. Elabed (Ramy’s mom)

Ms. Baldwin (Harlow’s mom)

Mrs. Berhe (Sam’s mom)
