Important Dates/Reminders:

3-2-2020: Kick of Day March Reading Madness! Tomorrow is our Dr. Seuss dress up day! Remember to wear Dr. Seuss colors (red, black,white, blue)

3-5-2020: Anual Reading Night! Please join us from 5:00pm-6:00pm to enjoy Literacy and Sport themed activities to celebrate our reading month. Families welcome.

*March Madness: Please review the packet sent home on Friday of last week regarding March Reading Month! The calendar will inform you about spirit days as well as our school wide activities students will enjoy this month.

*Scholastic Book Fair: Our class will preview the book fair tomorrow morning and students will bring home a wish list. Students can bring money back in an envelope/zip lock baggie with their name on it Tuesday-Friday! Feel free to stop in after school with your child to see all the amazing books our fair has to offer! Enjoy.

*Raz-Kids: Please make sure to spend 10-15 minutes a night reading and enjoying Raz-Kids as well as reading packs and personal libraries. This week, we will work really hard to take out old books and begin rebuilding the books in our reading packs.

Thursday April 16th: Lifetouch Spring Pictures

LA/Writing: This week we will continue publishing our math story problems in writer’s workshop. They are SO fantastic I am SO proud of the students! This week we will also begin writing to the theme of the first book on our March Reading Madness bracket!

Spelling: Because of the snow days last week, our test for the -op family (bop, cop, hop, mop, pop, sop, top, stop) will be Monday! The new list will be going home tomorrow as well and will be tested Friday as usual!

Math: Module 4 cont. about using tools such as the 5 and 10 frames and number bonds to compose, decompose and add/subtract combos of 5 and 10. Homework packets are due Monday and your child will receive a new pack of 5 lessons tomorrow as well as a new math game.

Social Studies: Cont. Where am I? Unit. this week lesson 3.



Week of 2-24-2020

Welcome back! I hope you had a restful winter break and got to enjoy time with family and friends. Here is what we will be busy doing in kindergarten this week. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for your family!

Math: Module 4 cont. about using tools such as the 5 and 10 frames and number bonds to compose, decompose and add/subtract combos of 5 and 10. Homework packets are due Monday and your child will receive a new pack of 5 lessons tomorrow as well as a new math game.

Social Studies: Cont. Where am I? Unit. Please continue to send in your child’s personal map of their bedroom. We have really been enjoying sharing our maps and using our position words to describe where things are in our rooms. For those students who have not sent in the assignment, I’ll resend it to you this week to make sure your child receives full credit!

Important Dates/Reminders:

Monday 2-10: Spelling assessment on the -et families

Friday 2-14-2020: Valentine’s Day! Students will be enjoying Valentine’s themed activities throughout the day. We’ll be passing out Valentines cards in the morning and enjoying a treat before lunch 🙂 If you would like to send in a card or treat please make sure to send in one for each child. we have 21 students. Please make sure treats are individually packaged and allergen free (nuts, eggs). Here are some safe food free ideas OR candies to choose from:

heart pencils, mini erasers, Hershey’s milk chocolate kisses, dum dum suckers, Jolly Rancher hard candies, skittles, smarties.

Raz-Kids: Please make sure to spend 10-15 minutes a night reading and enjoying Raz-Kids as well as reading packs and personal libraries.

Monday 10/17-10/21: Mid Winter Break! Mandatory relaxation and fun with families 🙂

100th Day Celebration!

I wanted to take a moment to THANK you all for helping us make our 100th Day of school a joyous success! Noah and Isaiah we MISSED you so much and hope you’re feeling better soon. The kids looked precious and we had a blast. Thank you so much for donating snacks to help us make our trail mix. In addition, thank you for sending in the 100 Day collections for us to share and compare. Here are the pictures I took on Friday I hope you enjoy them!

I hope you are all having a wonderful week! We are going to be jam packed with fun and learning. Here is what’s cooking! Please let me know if there is anything I can do for your family.

*If we happen to have a snow day on Thursday, our next day of school (Monday 2-10-2020 will be our 100th Day of school and the backup celebration dress up day!)

Important Dates/School Events:

100th Day Thursday: 100th Day! Students may dress as their future 100 year old selves as we enjoy fun activities sprinkled throughout our daily curriculum. THANK YOU so much to all the students who have donated skittles and cheese its for our math fun! It is going to be a delicious lesson 🙂

100th Day Collections: Thank you all for taking the time to count out 100 small items for your child’s zip lock baggie! We had SO much fun sharing three of them so far this week. Looking forward to sharing and displaying the rest.

Friday 2-7-2020: NO SCHOOL KDG ONLY! KDG teachers have PD. All other grade levels report as usual.

Popcorn Friday: Although we do not have school this Friday, your child can send quarters in with a sibling if they still want popcorn!

LA: Penguin Research Project! We read like crazy about penguins. We are reading both narrative and informational texts and comparing the difference in structural elements!

Raz-Kids: I hope your family is enjoying Raz-Kids are home! The kiddos have been giving me wonderful feedback at school about it and we are loving it during our Daily 5! Thank you for helping your child work so hard on their reading skills!

Math: This week your child will receive our first 5 lessons in a packet from module 4! The journals from module 3 went home this week. We are moving on to the next skills 🙂 and they are yours to complete if you wish. I am so proud of our gains in math this year so far! We are a great team 🙂

Spelling: WOW! Our students are doing SO well on their word families! I am so proud of them 🙂 Due to the short week and weather we will be having our –et family spelling test on Monday 2-10-2020! We have been working on all these words in class, however only six words will be on the assessment. They are starred on the note going home tonight.

-et family: bet, get, jet, let, met, pet, set, vet, wet

Writing: This week has been SO busy in kindergarten so far! We have been in a writing frenzy working on writing narrative stories about “When I am 100” AND math number stories with illustrations and number bonds! Whew, we rock! We will continue these next week 🙂

Social Studies: This week we will continue our new Unit “Where are We?” We have been working on position words, reading a cool book called “Me on the Map!” and drawing simple maps of our classroom! This weekend your child will bring home a large piece of white construction paper in their homework folders. Please help your child draw and color a large map of their “bedrooms!” The directions will be on the small slip of paper that comes home with it 🙂 Thank you in advance for your help!



Week of 1-27-2020

Dear Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! It has been a very exciting weekend in the Ross household as Benny has received his CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) in the mail! Woohoo, now we can tell what his glucose levels are at all times and we do not have to poke his fingers all day long 🙁 He’s being so brave as usual and adjusting to this new device in his tummy. What an inspiration he is to me. I wanted to thank you all once again for all your support while our family is adjusting to this new life we live. Here is what is cooking this week in our class. If there are any new updates or changes to our schedule I’ll be sure to post them right away! Have a wonderful week and please let me know if there is anything I can do for your family.

LA: Penguin Research Project! We read like crazy about penguins. We are reading both narrative and informational texts and comparing the difference in structural elements!

Raz-Kids: Tomorrow your child will be bringing home their log in information to use our new reading website Raz-Kids at home! This website is fantastic and will give your child the ability to read from hundreds of electronic books and answer comprehension questions! We will also be adding this element to our Daily 5 lessons in school. This choice is called “Listen to Reading” and students will get to use computer skills to navigate the site as well as practice being responsible and respectful with technology! They are going to love it 🙂 Please let me know if you have any questions about getting set up with the program at home. Have fun 🙂

Math: This week your child will receive a math game but not a math packet until we finish Module 3. 🙂

Spelling: Monday 1-27 we will have our first spelling test on the -an family! Friday 1-31 we will have our test on the -at family. We will work with many words in the-at family, though only six words will be on the test. Three “hot words” will be starred on the sheet sent home tomorrow (and definitely on the test) while the other words will be chosen by me. They are called the “cold words.”

Writing: Penguin Informational Writing Piece!This week we will continue revising our pieces and begin publishing the pieces for the hallway. I will help the students type what they have written in order to see publishing in a different form. Make sure to check out our bulletin board when you are in our hallway!

Social Studies: This week we will begin our new Unit “Where are We?”

Week of 1-13-2020

Dear Families,

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday break. I missed the students so much and am so happy to be back 🙂 We worked hard all week reviewing procedures, learning and enjoying being back together. In LA we cleared out our reading packs and got them ready to rebuild with newer books, checking our individual sight word color coded cards and adding new sight word lists. We have begun reviewing our personal and academic goals in order to update them for the next semester! It will be a busy few weeks ahead with end of the semester individual testing and the beginning of our Winter NWEA assessments in reading and math. Our week will be a mixture of new learning and individual assessments. Whew, I’m already excited and tired lol! THANK YOU in advance for all your hard work and making sure your little darlings have consistent attendance 🙂

Writing: Penguin Informational Writing Piece! This writing will be composed of 3-5 facts we choose to show what we know are “facts” about penguins. It will be a labor of love 🙂

I am so grateful and thankful for all the beautiful cards and gifts I received from your children. I feel so spoiled and thank you for thinking of me. This is going to be an exciting week! We will be having a spirit week dress up theme this week, a Holiday party and a sing along. Here is the information you’ll need to know. Spirit Week Themed days and Dress up:

Monday: Candy Cane day (wear read and white or candy cane themed shirts!)

Tuesday: Holiday Sock Day!

Wednesday: Pajama day! Holiday or favorite PJ’s (Please make sure they are warm enough to go outside!)

Thursday: Ugly Sweater Day (bedazzled holiday sweater sweatshirt theme!)

Friday: Red and Green Day! Dress up in your holiday gear 🙂

Holiday Party: Friday Dec. 20th 1:00 pm

Friday we will have a Holiday Get Together at 1:00 pm in room 106. Below is the sign up Genius of the goods/goodies we need! Feel free to send in non perishable items in as early as Tuesday. Remember, the only food items allowed in the class are on the list or already arranged with Mrs. Ross! Please do not send in any candy canes for the class. Dear Families,

I Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! As the month flies by, our field trip as well as holiday break is approaching! With so many things to remember here are some reminders of upcoming events. In addition, here is what you can expect this week in class. Thank you in advance for all you do to help make our trips and days a success!

Important Dates:

Polar Express/Craft and Pizza Field Trip: Friday, 12-13-2019 Polar Express Field Trip at the IMAX! Send your penguin to school in their PJ’s to get free popcorn at the IMAX! A reminder letter will come home separately with details about our trip.

Holiday Party/Sing-Along: Friday, December 20th we will be having a little holiday party in the classroom right before the school-wide singalong. Please feel free to join us for the party. A sign up genius will go out to your emails that are connected to this blog soon as well as a letter in the folders with exact times and details so stay posted! We are looking forward to a lot of fun!

Homework: This week your child will receive a new homework packet and math game to play about measurement in Module 3.

Library Check Out: This Tuesday we will visit the media center and check out new books!

Popcorn: This Friday we will have popcorn sales so bring your quarters!

Language Arts: This week our Narrative focus will be the book “The Snowy Day” by Ezra Jack Keats. The poem of the week will be: Little Snowman

Sight Words: you, this Letters: Focus on Letter Formation (Reading Groups,writing workshop)

Math: We will continue our work in Module 3 on measurement!

Science/Social Studies: We will continue lesson 5 “How can you warm up a frozen playground” next week! In addition, we will continue tracking and comparing the weather on our chart for two more days.

Social Studies: In social studies we will discuss and work in small groups to sort and glue pictures on t-charts that show basic Needs and Wants. Please help us out by cutting out pictures from magazines and newspapers that show needs and wants (please send them in zip-lock baggies marked needs/wants). Thank you in advance for your support!
