Happy Halloween!

Dear Families,

I hope this message finds you dry and warm and spending time with your loved ones. I wanted to take a moment to thank you all so much for all the beautiful messages and support you have given my family and my son Ben as we adapt to our new day to day life. I am so grateful for the Duvall community and my wonderful students. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Ben went back to school and sports a lot faster than I was ready for, but we are bravely putting one foot in front of the other because it is important 🙂 I wanted to inform you that I will be at an education class tomorrow with the endocrinologist but everything is alright and I will be back as usual on Tuesday! Looking forward to a wonderful week. Here is what you need to know. If there are any changes or additions to our post I will make them as soon as they arise. Have a wonderful week and Happy Halloween!

Important Dates:

Friday: Half Day for students with an 11:45am dismissal. Though we will not have lunch on Friday students are welcome to bring a small snack 🙂

Thursday October 31st is Halloween! You child may bring a costume to school in a bag (with their name labeled on it) to change into when we begin our class activities. The principal has asked for students to please have them wear their usual school clothes in the morning. Thursday mornings we have gym class! We will have stations beginning at 1:30pm and a school-wide parade at 2:00pm. Parents welcome at 1:30pm to join in the fun! I have set up a sign up genius below for any families wishing to donate supplies for the party. No pressure of course 🙂 Any missing items Mrs. Ross will be sure to purchase. Students can bring in an individually packaged treat to share with their friends. We have 21 students and I am working on a “Safe Treat List” of options that will be ok to bring in and share with ALL our students 🙂 These items will be egg free, nut free and made in peanut/tree nut free facilities. Thank you all so very much in advance for your generosity and help to make our Halloween Party safe and amazing!

Homework: Homework packets will be collected tomorrow and the next 5 lessons will be sent home 🙂 In addition, your child will receive a new homework game to add to their binder! Thank you again for all your ongoing support with the packets. Each week when your child returns them they will get a check mark. If they reach four in the month they will receive a penguin point!

Popcorn: Due to the half day we will not have popcorn sales this week!

Language Arts: This week our theme will be Bats which will link nicely to our Halloween Week. “Stellaluna” by Janell Cannon and various narrative and informational books about bats and Halloween.

Poem: Bats

Sight Words: is, has, he Letters: Vv, Zz

Writing: (Narrative Focus) This week we will keep working on our unit “Writing Through Pictures” and continue beginning to label our writing with the beginning sounds of objects in the stories! Our topics will include Halloween costumes and candies this week! Mrs. Ross will begin modeling simple sentences to accompany her stories on the big easel. Many students are beginning to write simple sentences to support their stories. I am impressed!

Math: We are reaching the end of Module 1 and I will begin reassessing skills acquired during this module. When we move onto Module 2, remember to continue playing games sent home from the first module throughout the year 🙂 Students develop at different speeds and all these concepts are important to keep practicing 🙂

Science: Mystery 5 the Force Olympics

Social Studies: Cont. Unit on “Getting Along With Others”

  1. Hello Mrs. Ross,

I hope Ben is doing better and I pray things eat easier with time. In regards to the snacks, I can bring a few things that Bilal eats regularly. Hersey Milk Chocolate and, Cookies and Cream kisses and bars are all safe.. Oreo’s and original Chips Ahoy are also safe. I can also bring chocolate pudding and Jello cups ( no gelatin for those who are concerned about pork ). I don’t mind bringing all those treats in because I know other parents may be concerned since it does state is made in a facility that processes nut. As long as nut or egg is not in the ingredients it is safe for him. He is also allergic to sesame and beans like Chick peas lentils etc.

    • Hi Mrs. Awad! Thank you very much for the input 🙂 I will now compile a list of safe snacks for students to pass if they want to for our “trick or treat” in the morning! As far as the party at 1:30pm how about bringing in some pudding to go with the pizza I order for them 🙂 Thank you very much for your help (and prayers for Benny). You’re a pro already with him and I hope to be where Ben is concerned in the future 🙂 Looking forward to Thursday!
