Week of November 30th

Monday

Students will research seven scientist that contributed to the cell theory.  Each group will focus on one scientist

They will report out their findings and transfer their information onto a silhouette to share with the rest of the class

Students will then gather important information on each scientist

Students will create a timeline that outlines the discoveries that lead to the cell theory

Week of November 16th

Monday

Students will study nucleic acids  – concept mapconcept map nucleic acid

Using a puzzle they will assemble DNA and RNA and answer questions in their notebook

Using our texts we will review in groups organic molecules

Week of November 9th

Monday:  Intro to Biochemisty

Students will discover what Blood Sugar is and how it is related to Carbohydrates – glucose.  The characteristics of Carbon:  bonding and its role in the formation of carbon will be focused on.  Reading below

We will continue to discuss Glucose and the organic molecule it creates – carbohydrates.  Students will create a model of glucose.  They will then link them and model the process of dehydration synthesis and hydrolysis breaking them apart.   concept map attached below

Students will explore what proteins are today.  We will make a protein model by linking together amino acids.  We will study its structure and function

Today we will continue with our study of organic molecules and make a concept map of Lipid.  We will read about lipids and discuss cholesterol and hormones in groups and share with a galley walk

Students will use puzzles to make a DNA strand and RNA strand – we will learn the monomer that makes up this organic molecule. We will make a foldable  of all 4 major organic molecules

Monday

Today students will take a pretest:  This test will be used as a measurement to ensure all students are learning – A grade will be given for participation

The students will be asked to explain the graph and discuss relationships

Talking to the diagram:

Students will interpret the meaning of two of Ecology’s main themes:  Lives organisation and its interactions

We will follow up and develop these interactions online – with an interactive ecosystem and gather data

Basic vocabulary is introduced and students will gather information  (create a chart) on 6 organisms:  habitat – interactions – effect – hand out below
