A Peek at the Week

Missing Assignments- We are only 8 day in to the new marking period and I already have students with missing assignments.  Please help remind your students if they have missing work and have them complete it at home.   I am try very hard to attached an electronic version of all assignments to my lesson plans that can be access from the blog.  Please print the assignments at home, have your student complete them and turn them in.

Parent Connect Contest -I am going to have a Parent Connect contest starting on Monday 2/9 and ending on Friday, 2/13.  All you have to do is look at your child’s scores on Parent Connect and you student will win a prize.  I can see who has viewed their student’s page.   Help your student win a prize and go to Parent Connect.    This include Mrs. Polster’s class.  If you still can’t get on to Parent Connect please email me for your user information.

Study Island – Now that we have access to Chrome book computers, we have started to take Study Island tests in class, I would like a student to get a minimum score of 80% to pass the test.  Sometimes it takes more than one try before they can get 80%.  Practicing their Study Island at home would be helpful.

Science – We have finished our Unit on Light and Sound.  We are starting our Unit on Force and Motion.  We are kicking off the unit with a presentation and demonstration from a Ford Engineer (Mr. Polster – Mrs. Polster’s husband) on the physics behind Balloon Rockets.  It should be a fun unit.

WIDA testing- Will start this week.  All students who put a second language on their enrollment application for school will be tested.

Late Start – Wednesday, February 11th

Mid-winter break – We will have no school February 16-20th

Max Rotation – Ms. Stephanie will take Max over the vacation.  Daniel will take Max on 2/27.  Then we will start over from the 1st person and go in the same order as last time.  I will post a new list when I create it.

Star of the Week – Because of the snow days I am extending Hassan for another week.  All of the other stars will be moved back one week.

Valentine’s Day is coming soon. We will be exchanging Valentine’s cards in the classroom.

Your child should make a Valentine’s mail box at home by decorating a shoebox, tissue box or bag. Please make sure their name is written largely on the box so their friends can easily deliver their cards.

Here are the children’s names in the class, so that your child may address their Valentine cards to their class mates. They may bring a Valentine for each child and a small treat or candy if the wish. If a couple people are interested in bringing cupcakes or cookies please let me know. We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Friday, February 13th.

Thanks, Mrs. Katie Keebler

A Peek at the Week

New Student – We will have a new student on Monday.  His name is Daniel Ockers, he is a 3rd grader from Haigh.

3rd Grade Math test – Students will get a study guide tomorrow for their test on Tuesday.  Please make sure they return the completed study guide.  We will review the answers before we start the test.  Here is the study guide to print, only need to print if they don’t bring it home on Monday.  Grade+3+Unit+5+PRE-Test

Science Test – We will be learning a couple of new terms in the beginning of the week and the Science Test will now be on Wednesday for Mrs. Keebler’s class and Mrs. Polster’s class on Thursday.  I have found that quite a few students have not started using Quizlet yet.  Therefore a study guide will go home on Monday.  Here is a copy of the study guide: Light study guide flashcards

Missing work and forgotten items – Students are often forgetting their work, gym shoes or library books.  Here is a list of when things are due and reminders of when they need their library books and gym shoes.   You could print this somewhere where you and your child can see as they are leaving for school to remind them to get everything they need.

Here is a schedule of when everything is due and reminders –

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
2nd grade tower Spelling Sort Spelling Homework 3rd grade SRA Spelling test
Book bag assignment 3rd grade tower 2nd grade SRA Reading log check Math fact test
Gym Shoes Library Books Gym shoes

The SRA and Towers will be done in school, however a gentle reminder from home before school that they need to finish each activity will be helpful.

Also each child will now have a missing assignment sheet in their parent folder.  Each time work is not completed in class they will write it on the list to complete at home.  If it is not turned in the next day they will need to complete it at recess time.  Hopefully, this will encourage students to complete their work in class or at home so we won’t have anyone missing recess.

Spelling sorts and homework go home on Fridays and you are always welcome to turn things in early.  Here are the Week 17 words and spelling activities:

Week 17 spelling sort

Spelling tic tac toe – Week 17

Testing – This week be a little different, we will be having a lot of testing.  We will be having NWEA MAP Testing, 3rd grade Math, Science test and the District Writing Prompt test.  Please make sure your students are well rested (10-12 hours are needed at this age) and eat a nutritious breakfast (sugar cereal will cause and energy crash mid morning).

NWEA MAP Testing – the scores will show up as their reading and Math grade equivalents on the spring report card.

Science Test

We will be doing a retake of the Science Quizlet, next week.   When I printed the test it put the answer first and then the questions in multiple choice format.  This was confusing to the children, so they will have another opportunity.  We will do Keebler on Monday and Polster on Tuesday.  Here is the quizlet to study: https://quizlet.com/64757291/light-flash-cards/
