New Spelling

I have had many requests to test their students are harder words, therefore I have decided to individualize the spelling.  Students will now be testing each other and may now take the tests at their own pace.  They should complete at least one a week but are welcome to do more, if they finish their grade level I will move them to the next level.  They must have 100% to pass the test.  Because I am starting this in week 4, if students did not get 100% in weeks 1-3 they will need to redo those tests to get 100%.  Below is a link to the new spelling page on my blog that has all the words.  Here is a list of which week each student will be studying this week.

Student number     Week of Spelling
1 8
2 5
3 6
4 2
5 2
6 1
7 8
8 3

11 2
12 1
13 7
14 2
15 1
16 1

The spelling words can be found on the first tab under the Homework section, they can also be found below:

MEAP Testing – This week the 3rd grade will be taking the Language Arts section of the MEAP on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 8th and 9th from 9 am-11 am.  Please make sure that they eat a good breakfast, protein is best, get plenty of rest the night before and arrive on time.  If you need to make doctor appointments please try not to schedule them during this time.  Please make sure your student knows that MEAP is not something to be nervous about.  It is just test like any other test we take in class.  They just need to try to do their best.

2nd graders will be having math time with Mrs. Truxall during the MEAP testing.

New Student – We have a new student starting on Monday.  She is a 2nd Grader and her name is Leah Rustom from Oakman.  Please introduce yourself and make her and her family feel welcome.

Math Fact Sheets – My class is no longer doing math fact sheets each week.  All students should be practicing in their facts everyday using www.everydaymathonline.com.

If you are having any trouble getting on Everyday Math Online please come see me and I will help you solve your problem, if the devise you are using is portable (ipad, laptop, Kindle Fire) please bring it with you.

If you are unable to practice facts on the computer then your student should be using flash cards or you should just quiz them as you drive in the car or do other activities.

  • 2nd graders should know all their addition and subtraction facts and be starting on multiplication by the end of the year.
  • 3rd graders should know all their addition, subtraction, multiplication and be starting on division by the end of the year.

Walk-and-Roll-A-Thon – Pledge sheets and money for the fundraiser is due this Friday, October 11th.  The students will do the Walk-a-thon on October 18th.

Field trip – Our field trip to the Michigan Science Center is quickly approaching.  Here are a few details you need to know.

  • If you are not chaperoning, please let me know if you would like your child placed in a certain car.  I have 16 chaperones and 19 children, so only a few parents will be watching other students.
  • The classrooms at the Michigan Science Center are not large enough for the parents to attend.  They have asked that I have only have 2 adults in the classroom including myself.  During the class time you will be free to explore the Science Center or chat in the cafe.
  • Please remember to pack a paper bag lunch, there is a cafe available, however, we only have 30 minutes to eat, so if there is a long line, you may not have time to eat.
  • Please make sure that you have filled out a form in the office for driving.  You are not allowed to drive if you have not completed the form.
