The third grade math test will be on Thursday, 12/18.  The study guide will go home Monday night, it should be returned to class on Tuesday to be corrected and recorded and will be sent home again to Study for the test on Thursday.  Here is a copy of the study guide:  Grade+3+PRE-TEST+Unit+4-1.

Class News

Parent Connect – Both Polster and Keebler’s classes should have gotten a letter in the mail inviting you to join Parent Connect.  I high encourage you to check it at least once a week.  You can view your children’s assignments, their scores and see if they have any missing assignments.  If they got a low score on an assignment, I encourage you to help the redo the assignment to raise their score.    If you are unable to get into Parent Connect, you should check with Ms. Bernadette our secretary and see if you have an updated email on file with the school.  If you are still having a problem please email me at keeblek@dearbornschools.org and I will try to help you solve the problem.  This is a pilot program, so please give me feedback on how it is going.  I am the only teacher at the elementary level in the district that is currently piloting this program, so Polster’s students will just see their Math and Science grades for 3rd and Science only for 2nd.

Book Order – I am extending the due date for the Scholastic Book orders.  They will now be due on Friday, 12/5.

Don’t forget – Book bag assignments, spelling Tic-Tac-Toe and spelling sorts  are all due today.   I am still missing several November Reading Logs, please turn these in by Friday.

Friday Reading Log Check – I am going to start a Reading Log Check each Friday.   Please send in December Reading log on Friday.  I would like to check how much everyone is reading.  I will return it on Friday.  Instead of coloring the calendar, have your child write the number of minutes read on each day.  This reading log will be due after winter break.  I will send a new log for January right before break.

Holiday Performance – Our class will he having a holiday concert during their music time on Wednesday, 12/17 at 2:30.  A note went home a couple of days ago.

Holiday Celebration – I have a tradition of making Gingerbread Houses each year.  We will be making them this year on the Friday before Winter Break 12/19 at 2 pm.   I will need donations of candy for decorating, graham cracker for the walls and roof and white frosting to “glue” on the house and to be snow for the yard.  I have created a sign up list for everything we will need on SignUpGenius.  You should have received an email about it.  If you didn’t get it please check you Junk mail or Spam folders.  If you still don’t see it, please contact me to make sure I have your correct email.  Here is a link to the site:

New Learning Site- I discovered a wonderful new learning site with language, math and science games.  We will be using it this week for our language work.  There are lessons, games and activities associated with each topic.  The topics we will be studying this week are pronouns, collective nouns, prefixes and homophones.  Please have your student practice these games at home and we will work on them in school and will take a quiz on each topic.  Each child has their own user name and password for me to track their progress.

After the click on the link below have them log out and sign in under their user name and password.

Next week’s Star of the Week – Skye

Star of the Weekstar

Every student will have their turn to be the Star of the Week.  This a week where your child will get special privilege and have the chance for us to get to know more about them and let them really “shine!”.

While your child is the Star, each day of the week will consist of an exciting event or activity to honor him or her and to help us get to know our special classmate.

Monday: Sharing Sack and Poster of pictures: Please help your child collect special items from home with which to fill a small bag (the “sharing sack”), and send it back to school with your child on Monday to share with his or her classmates. Try to encourage your child to choose items that have some sort of meaning rather than just a collection of toys. Also, please have your child decorate a poster board with pictures of him or herself from babyhood to the present. If you did a poster last year, you may use the same one, and add new pictures if you’d like. We’ll display the poster in a place of honor on our class bulletin board.

*Tuesday: Favorite Book: Your star student brings one of his or her favorite picture books to read to the class (or have the teacher read to the class) at our class meeting.

*Wednesday: Parent Letter: Parents, you will write a letter to the class telling us how special your child is to you. Send the letter in a sealed envelope to school with your child, and I will read the letter to the class at class meeting. The content of the letter is up to you, but you may want to choose from one of the following ideas: describe special or funny stories about your child for the class to hear, write a silly or serious poem about your child, tell us some neat things we may not know about your child, send silly or special pictures with a letter describing the pictures, or write a short story with your child as the main character. You may also send a special video for the class to watch if you choose. (Sometimes parents have taped messages or choose to send in a funny baby video for the class to see.)

*Thursday: Lunch Buddy:If possible, join your child in the cafeteria for a special lunch on this day. You may also choose to invite a sibling or a favorite relative to be your child’s lunch buddy. You can have the buddy be a surprise or let your child know ahead of time. If you are unable to make it during our lunch period (11:15 – 11:45), please let me know and I will plan a special lunch for your child instead. You can bring lunch from a favorite restaurant to the cafeteria, or you can order lunch at school. Please let me know ahead of time if you are planning to order a school lunch so that I can place your order.

Friday: Star Friends: Your star student will be presented with a friendship poster created by his or her classmates. The poster will include the Star’s picture, surrounded by compliments written by his or her classmates.

*The events planned for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday can be swapped in order to accommodate your personal schedule if you are planning to be a lunch buddy during the week.

Email me if you have further questions.
