Literacy/Science: Watch this video on the life cycle of a butterfly

After have your child design their own butterfly, they can draw one, make one out of materials around the house, etc. be creative! For an additional learning opportunity, they can write a story about their butterfly! Send me all the pictures!! I can’t wait to see what the kids come up with!

Math: Pattern Caterpillars https://www.themailbox.com/magazines/pattern-stripsbr-2-pages/caterpillars-5696#%2F5696

IF you have a printer you could print these out, or just simply draw some caterpillars similar to these on some paper for your child.

Start a pattern for your child, and have them finish it. You could use, fruit loops, crayons, markers, etc. A pattern should repeat.

Example patterns: red, blue, red, blue ….

Red, blue, blue, red, blue, blue …

Red, red, blue, blue, red, red, blue, blue …

red , blue, green, red, blue, green …

You may also invite your child to make up their own pattern!

Work Time

5 to 10 MinutesPlan for Work Time (playtime):  Build your child’s ability to organize their time by having them make a “plan” with you about what they would like to play with.  Children do this everyday with us at school. It helps children learn to organize their thoughts. Adults make plans all the time to organize their thoughts (shopping lists are made before going to the grocery store, to do lists are made to help plan your day etc..).
Kids will tell you what they are planning to do/want to play with/how they will use toys at home.
1 hr.Work Time: Kids play WITHOUT ELECTRONICS  Kids can use toys to pretend play, build, and create.
15 minClean Up:  Kids clean up the mess they have made while playing.
10 min Recall:  Build your child’s memory of events by having your child tell you what they did while they played (ask “tell me how you did that” or “what did you do next?”)
Lunch or DinnerPrepare lunch: have your child help you prepare lunch.  They can help with cooking/setting tables- whatever seems appropriate for the meal time.

Here are two videos for your child to watch about the letter Ii!

Today’s Activities!!

Math and Literacy: Read the hungry caterpillar today. Link to book: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75NQK-Sm1YY

Help your child cut out 20 circles. Use paper, paper plates, etc. Once the circles are cut, have them write the numbers 1 through 20, with a number on each circle. Next they should put them in order from 1-20. If you have glue then glue them together into a number caterpillar! Feel free to have them add a circle for a face when they are done, make legs out of the scrap pieces of paper. Need a challenge? Have your child also put the correct number of dots on the circle with the number. Need it to be easier? Make the circles and numbers for your child and then work with them to arrange them in order. Caterpillars could be 1-10, 1-20 etc.

Example below: This is just an example, your child can be creative and use what you have!

Info for upcoming days off…

Hi Parents!

I know we are all nervous, confused, and wondering what is coming next. Please try to stay calm and do not let your little ones see you worrying. They are too young to know about this situation-just explain it in very easy terms and do not let them understand in too much detail where they will become scared.

I will be sending information mostly through Remind. This is the easiest/quickest way and most parents only follow that mode of communication. Please look for activities that I will be sending out daily and I will also be sending private messages checking in on your child’s goals and what not.

Please continue to practice the following items with your child. We do not want them to lose all they have worked so hard to gain:

*Name Writing
*Color Recognition
*Shape Recognition
*Letter Recognition (Upper and Lowercase)
*Counting to 30 and Number Recognition
*Counting items up to 20
*USING MANNERS! Saying “please, thank you, excuse me, etc.”

We look forward to seeing you again on April 13th. Until then- I will talk to you soon:) Stay healthy and enjoy the extra bonus time with your little angels.

A Message from the Principal regarding COVID-19

Dear Dearborn GSRP Families,

With the latest COVID-19 pandemic now infiltrating Michigan it is best we stick to the facts and don’t pay attention to all of the “false” news on social media, but instead educate ourselves and parents regarding the science behind the virus.  Please access the Wayne County Health Department at the following URL for the most up to date information:

https://www.waynecounty.com/departments/hhvs/wellness/novel-coronavirus-information.aspx

I also want to share the steps that we are continuing to take in each of the GSRP classrooms to support a healthy environment for our students.

  1. Our custodians will continue to clean and disinfect all surface areas including desks, tables, door handles, and other classroom items.
  2. We will have teachers serving the food to students during breakfast, lunch and snack. All food will be served by the teacher directly to the student for the time being.
  3. Students and staff continue to wash hands regularly throughout the day.

Good hygiene practices will help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases. Please follow these recommendations and encourage all family members to do the same.

  1. Stay home if you are sick, and advise others to do the same.
  2. Always cover coughs or sneezes with a tissue or sleeve.
  3. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  4. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  5. Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol if soap and warm water are not available.
  6. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Helping Children Cope with Stress due to the COVID-19 Outbreak

The health and safety of our students is always our first priority. We will continue to share information on the school blog as it becomes available. Additional information is also available on the district’s website.
