Reading, Writing and More

What a busy week full of learning and fun.  Our letter of the week was V. We watched videos, read books and built the letter.

Daily 5 has really evolved since the beginning of the school year.  The children are able to make choices about what they want to do during this time such as read to self, read to someone, computers or listen to reading.

During small group this week, the children had fun making bubble art as well as writing in the dark with flashlights!

Week 8

Mr. Paul “The Critter Guy” visited our class this week! He brought several different animals such as a tree frog, chinchilla, mouse, doves, starfish and a snake for the children to learn about, see and even touch.  Enjoy the photos!

Week 7

This week we really focused on numbers and letters.  We built and sorted letters using straight lines and curved lines. We also worked on the difference between letters and numbers. Please continue to work with your child at home. Helping them recognize both letters and numbers as well as understanding the difference between the two.

Week 6

The children have been showing a lot of interest in pumpkins and apples.  Because of this we decided to dive deeper into these two fruits.  We started by opening up the pumpkins and looking inside.  Most of the children enjoyed digging out the seeds.  Once the seeds were out, the children cleaned them, soaked them in water and finally we baked and ate them for snack!  We also made applesauce with our apples.  Ask your child about these two recipes! Which one did they like best?

Week 5

This week we introduced Read to Someone.  During Daily 5 the children are now able to choose a partner to read their books to.

Which apple is your favorite? Red, Yellow or Green? We found out this week that green is the favorite in our class!  The children were given the opportunity to taste the three different apples. We talked about their differences and similarities such as texture and flavor. Then each child voted by writing their name in the appropriate column.  Please see the completed chart hanging in the hallway outside of our classroom door.
