Art Class week of 1-25-16

6th Grade

Student took home sketchbooks, clay masks (last week too), mask paintings and perspective drawings.  The semester is over so your child will go to another exploratory extended core on Monday February 1st.  It is a half day on the 1st and students will go to their Advisory class first and then follow their new schedule.

7th Grade 2D

Students took home sketchbooks, Printmaking unit and Canvas board-acrylic paintings (We have been very busy in class).  The 2D semester is completed and your child will go to another extended core class on Monday 2-1-2016

8th Grade 2D

Students took home sketchbooks on Monday.  We just finished up our Andy Warhol Pop Art.  Your child is now finished with 2D art and will move on to another elective on Monday 2-1-2016.

6th grade

Students finish the last steps to their clay masks by glossing them today.  Students started a new painting using their own mask as inspiration.

7th grade 2-d Art

Students finished their flag books and turned them in today or earlier.  Students are now wrapping up a printmaking edition using their machine drawings as reference.

8th grade 2-d Art

Students finished up their insect genre acrylic painting before break.  They worked on and turned in their bird proverb collage.  The current lesson is a cubism still life.  We looked at artists like Cezanne, Gris, Braque, and Picasso for inspiration.

Students finished the Moon Lesson.  If students are not finished they can come in the morning at 7:30 am to complete.  Students started new lesson with monoprints.

7th 2D Grade

Students started new lesson on Thursday, November 5th.  Lesson is learning how to create objects that appear 3D.  2D Shapes are HxW.  3D forms are HxWxD.

8th Grade 2D

Students finish Reflections program lesson Friday.  Started new drawing lesson with Honors Program theme.  Please check parent connect for updated grades.

7th Grade 2D Art

Today was the last day to work on the Warm/Cool/Zentangle Tree composition.  We will start a new lesson on Wednesday 11-04-15.  Students can come in at 7:30 am W-F this week and Tuesday from 3-5 on November 10th.

8th Grade 2D Art

The new lesson is in support of the PTSA.  Students are creating a graphic design that communicates the Reflections theme= “Let Your Imagination Soar”.  We will be working with Tempera and Acrylic paint for this lesson. The 5 Paragraph essay with the IBC is due on WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 4TH.  This was assigned last Tuesday and students worked on it during class on Friday if their graphic design logo was complete.  I will post the IBC below.

Last couple bellwork words =Juxtapose, Radial, Chiaroscuro, Matte,

Students finish their Emerald illustration drawings and start new lesson.  We are exploring the different names the moon is known for.  Students are going to use a variety of materials for complete their moon composition.  Here is phase one with the drawing component.  Next is the chalk!

7th grade 2D art

Students finish their Chuck Close portraits and do a fantastic job.  Portraits are hanging in hallway- you come take a look at your child’s work! Students start another 2″ grid lesson with an abstract tree landscape.  The patterns are called Zentangle and the trees are drawn using a number pattern and a technique we call Trees with V’s.  Lastly they are using color schemes to complement the foreground and background.

Students finish their sketchbook and start using it to sketch font and logo ideas.  They are using the logo to advertise a fictional product or service.

Bell work= Tesserae.  Tesserae are seen on Romare Bearden’s Quilting time.

Students are working on The Emerald story illustration using blending and cross-hatching techniques.

Bellwork=Genre

Students listen to a short story titled “The Emerald” and write down the different scenes from the story.  Students pick a scene and illustrate it using the blending and cross-hatching techniques we have been practicing.

7th grade 2D

Students finish making 2″ grid and watch a demo on how to transfer the 1″ grid photo to a 2″ drawing.

Students finish 2 paste paint book covers, 5 signature sleeves and measure and punch signature to prepare to coptic stitch.

6th Grade

Students finish value scales using blending and cross-hatching drawing techniques.  Students will start their children’s book illustration drawings next week.

Students finished their paste paint sketch books and are ready to move on to the Chuck Close self portrait drawing lesson.

Students are practicing the blending technique with 10 different values and creating their own 2″x 2″ grid on an 18″x24″ paper.
