Michigan Reading Conference
In March I attended the Michigan Reading Conference at Cobo Hall It was so exciting to meet authors from Michigan and around the United States. It was also interesting to think about the higher levels of text students should be exposed to daily.
One great way to do this is by reading the newspaper or magazines with your child. Discuss what you have read. A fellow teacher recommended The Reader’s Digest to me and my family has been reading it together. We do the crossword puzzles and share interesting articles.
Holiday Reading
When reading holiday stories at home compare and contrast two of them. Talk with your child about what is similar and what is different in each story: Comparisons could be between characters, settings, problems or solutions.
These two stories have gingerbread characters and in the stories a character is LONELY. Then we talked about what happened to solve the problem and about a time each student was lonely.
