Mrs. Keebler's Blog

Dearborn Public Schools

School is almost here!

Happy Summer Everyone!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer!  School starts in less than 3 weeks and we are seeing sales for school supplies right now.    So below is the suggested school supply list for the 3rd grade.  Anything you send is greatly appreciated.  If the supplies are too expensive just send what you are able.  Shop the sales now, if you wait until right before school starts most places will be sold out.  We will be sharing most of the supplies so we don’t need anything with cute puppies or kittens on it.  These tend to be more expensive, and if they have special things on them then students sometimes don’t want to share the items.  If you buy a supply that your student doesn’t want to share, please keep them at home.

I am currently updating my blog for the current school year.  Please read my blog carefully before school starts.  It is full of important, useful information that you will need for the school year.  Please add your email to the subscription box on the main page, so that you receive any updates that I send.  It will be my main form of communication.  Here is the link to my blog: https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/keebler/

Summer Birthdays -I like to celebrate the summer birthdays on the last day of school.  If your student  has a birthday during the summer, feel free to bring in a treat to celebrate.  It does not have to be sweets, it can be chips or something else.  Please just make it easy to pass out to students. I’m sorry for the late notice, but I have bronchitis and have not been feeling well for the last 10 days or so, so I forgot.

Thank yous – I would like to thank all the parents that have helped our class this year.  I would like to especially thank Celine’s mom for helping us every Friday with extra recess and Zahraa S. mom for helping every Friday with spelling tests and book bags.  Zahraa’s mom also helped us the last couple of week to watch the students that are fasting.  I really appreciate everything that the parents do for us.  You guys are wonderful!

Last day – Today is our last day.  It is a 1/2 day with dismissal at 11:45.  Report cards will be passed out today.  It is alsot the 5th grade graduation ceremony.

Typing – I challenged my class to learn how to type this summer.  This is an important skill for 3rd/4th grade students to know coming into the school year.  they have more expectations to be able to type several paragraphs.  Typing is a key skill for being able to do this.

Summer Learning – don’t forget that students need to continue to use their brains all summer.  Field trips to interesting places are wonderful for summer learning, the public library has many wonderful summer programs and we have sent several lists of online resources to continue learning all summer.

Have a wonderful, restful summer – I hope everyone enjoys their vacation time.  Please keep in touch and share pictures.  This has been a wonderful group!  I will miss everyone!

Summer resources for students:

You should have already gotten a paper with a list of all the online resources that the school pays for that will help students maintain their academic over the summer.  It is important to continue reading, writing and doing math all summer so that your students don’t loose ground and fall behind.  Here are some more recourse from the Michigan Department of Education.

Now that the school year is winding down and everyone is looking forward to a great summer vacation, the MeL team would like to remind everyone of the great resources Michigan residents have free access to through the Michigan eLibrary. Families can find resources to help ease the summer slide, read eBooks, conduct research, create reading lists, and prepare for college, careers, and high stakes tests like the SAT.

To help promote the resources, some of our content providers have created short videos that highlight their database(s) and how students can use them over the summer.  We have created a playlist on the MeL YouTube Channel (https://goo.gl/fDC4Be) and a 2017 Summer Resources Letter that can be either emailed (or printed and sent home) to Michigan K-12 families.  Please help distribute this letter to as many schools and families as possible.  You may also want to subscribe to the MeL YouTube Channel, so you keep up to date on the latest with the Michigan eLibrary!

The letter is available in the following formats:

3rd Grade Economics Quizlet

Egyptian Cultural night costumes– Next Thursday 6/8 at 5:30 PM is our Cultural night.  Students will come dress as Ancient Egyptian to recite their line to the audience.  If appropriate their costume should match what they are talking about.   We will try to solidify their lines in the next day or two.  Please have them practice their lines at home until they are confident and can say them on their own without the paper.

Egyptian Projects – Students will be creating an Egyptian project (we will start the research in school, but the project may need to be completed at home), they may present their topic in a manner of their choice:  For example they can create a poster, diorama, Google slide or other.  They will be presenting their project to the school on Friday 6/9.  Parents are welcome to come see the projects on Friday afternoon at 2:30.
