Popcorn Friday – will be this Friday, help support the PTA and get popcorn for your student for just $1.

Cold Weather Clothing – it is getting cold very fast please remember to have your child dress for the weather. Help them find the temperature the night before or before school. Here are the guidelines for dressing, I have linked the document in case you want to print it and hang it at home for your child to refer to:

Howe Winter Guidelines

Outdoor Weather

Students go outside for recess two or three times a day, even during the winter months. We use the following guidelines to determine when it is safe for students to be outside. To make this determination, we use the “feels like” temperature (wind chill) as reported by the National Weather Service. Please make sure your child is prepared with the necessary outerwear.

TEMPERATURE GUIDELINES (Feels like Temperature/Wind Chill) :

  • Below 20 degrees – we do not go outside
  • 20 degrees or higher- we go outside

Clothing

During the months of December through March, students should bring boots every day as there are many areas on the playground that can get quite snowy and/or muddy. Labeling items with your child’s first and last name can help us to return any lost items. We expect that students will wear the following winter gear when heading outside for recess.

CLOTHING GUIDELINES:

  • 50-60 degrees: Long sleeves/sweaters
  • 40-50 degrees: Jacket/coat
  • 30-40 degrees: Winter jacket, hat and mittens/gloves and covered legs (i.e tights, jeans, pants)
  • Below 30 and if snowy: Full set of snow gear to play in the snow (winter jacket, snow pants, hat, mittens, and boots)
  • December – March: Bring boots and shoes daily

Students who do not wear snow pants and boots will not be able to play in the snow.

Students who do not bring boots will still go outdoors, but are expected to stay on the blacktop.

Book Orders

Reading is a very important part of your students education.  They should be reading everyday.  In order to encourage reading it is very important that students have access to books at home.  I am sending out a book order TODAY to help you provide a good source of books for your children.  These books are inexpensive and appropriate for our grade level.  These make great holiday gifts. When you order you are also helping the classroom earn FREE books!

Place an order of $25 or more and you can pick a FREE $5 book (use code READS at checkout) to add to your reader’s TBR pile!

Family Order Due Date: 11/20/23

SHOP OUR CLASS PAGE: https://orders.scholastic.com/J6YNP
SHOP FLYERS: https://clubs.scholastic.com/all-flyers

Books make wonderful holiday presents. If you want to surprise your student with some books then just send me a message and I will pack them in a bag so they won’t be seen.

Holiday presents – Speaking about presents, I wanted to let you know that I never expect any gifts from anyone, but everyone has always been very generous in the past around the holidays.  I know this has been a rough year for a lot of families.  If you do choose to send a gift, I need to let you know I have I am working hard to trying to lose some weight,  so please do not send any food or candy gifts this year.  I also have very sensitive skin and can’t use regular soaps, perfumes and lotions.  I love to get things for the classroom like office supplies (sheet protectors, card stock, markers, paper)  or things for the students like prizes for the prize box or contests, Legos, educational games, science activities, or magnets.  I have make a classroom wishlist on Amazon, if that is helpful. I also enjoy gift cards to Amazon, Target, Kroger or any gas station.  Thanks for your understanding!  Again I’m not expecting anything.
