Winter Concert Streaming

On Friday we will have an all school sing along! We unfortunately do not have enough room to invite parents to this so we will be live streaming some parts of it on our schools Instagram page! You must be a follower of @howemontessoriandsped to see us go live and watch the video! We will stream a couple parts throughout the hour sing along. Reminder that this is not a concert …. this is simply a fun sing along to end our week and get us excited for holiday break. Special thanks to Mrs. Reed for planning and preparing the students.

Remember to send your child in holiday pjs on Friday so we can all match at the sing along.

VERY IMPORTANT—- The first day back in January- Monday the 6th is a HALF DAY with 11:30 am dismissal! Please make note of this!

Weekly News 12/16-12/20

Star of the Week is Layana this week

Monday last day to turn in completed candy grams.

Winter Party – We will be having a winter party on 12/20. We will be decorating winter cookies. It would be great if the cookies were a winter shape like snowman, snowflake or snowball (no holiday shapes please). The student were hoping for hot chocolate from some place like Tim Horton’s. Here is a list of the supplies the students decided on in our class meeting. Students would like to have popcorn to eat while we watch a winter movie. If anyone would like to share a winter movie with the class it should be rated G. We want a movie about winter NOT a holiday movie so that everyone can participate.

ELA – We will be doing a reading log this week. However, we will not be beginning our next Benchmark Unit until after break. No new spelling, Grammar and Spelling pamphlet and no new Benchmark magazine this week.

Math – Lesson 10, 11, 12 Topic B quiz on Thursday. Here is the study guide if you would like to practice at home.

Social Studies – Map Skills week 8 – study online for quiz on Tuesday.

Wow! It is already December! Here is a weather gear reminder from the principal:

Dear Parent & Guardians,

Now that cold weather is here, it’s important for students to dress appropriately for the conditions. Students need to wear a winter jacket to school and also bring a hat and gloves when the temperature hits a certain number.  When snow is on the ground, students need to bring boots and snow pants. If the temperature is 20 degrees or warmer, students will still be going outside for recess. A copy of our Winter Guidelines for student dress is outlined below.

Winter Guidelines for Outdoor Recess

Students go outside for recess two times a day, even during the winter months. We use the following guidelines to determine when it is safe for students to be outside. To make this determination, we use the “feels like” temperature (wind chill) as reported by the National Weather Service. Please make sure your child is prepared with the necessary outerwear.

TEMPERATURE GUIDELINES:

  • Below 20 degrees, we do not go outside
  • 20 degrees or higher, we go outside

Clothing

During the months of November through March, students should bring boots every day as there are many areas on the playground that can get quite snowy and/or muddy. Labeling items with your child’s first and last name can help us to return any lost items. We expect that students will wear the following winter gear when heading outside for recess.

CLOTHING RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • 50-60 degrees: Long sleeves
  • 40-50 degrees: Jacket,sweatshirt, or coat
  • 30-40 degrees: Winter jacket, hat and mittens/gloves and covered legs (i.e tights, jeans, pants).
  • Below 30 and if snowy: Full set of snow gear to play in the snow (winter jacket, snow pants, hat, mittens, and boots)
  • November – March: Bring boots and shoes daily

Students who do not wear snow pants and boots will not be able to play in the snow or on the playground.

Students who do not bring boots will still go outdoors, but are expected to stay on the sidewalk.

Thank you for helping to make sure your student is prepared for the Michigan Fall & Winter!
