Parent helpers needed for a book room project starting today at 11:05.

Animal Sound Research project –   Please work on their projects over the holiday break.  The students have started an animal sound research project.  We are trying to find out more about how animals use sounds for communication and other reasons.  Each child is creating a report in a Google doc and they are supposed to add sound clips and videos of the animal making their sounds.  Please make sure they are focusing on the sounds of the animal since we are studying sound.

They should have a 1 page (double spaced) paper.  They can log in to Google docs using their student number@dearbornschools.org and student number for the password.  As they progress they can share their work with me and I can give feedback on how they are doing.  They push the blue share button in the Google doc and type my email keeblek@dearbornschools.org and click send.

Here is the assignment: Animal Sound Research Project

Class News

Parent Connect – Both Polster and Keebler’s classes should have gotten a letter in the mail inviting you to join Parent Connect.  I high encourage you to check it at least once a week.  You can view your children’s assignments, their scores and see if they have any missing assignments.  If they got a low score on an assignment, I encourage you to help the redo the assignment to raise their score.    If you are unable to get into Parent Connect, you should check with Ms. Bernadette our secretary and see if you have an updated email on file with the school.  If you are still having a problem please email me at keeblek@dearbornschools.org and I will try to help you solve the problem.  This is a pilot program, so please give me feedback on how it is going.  I am the only teacher at the elementary level in the district that is currently piloting this program, so Polster’s students will just see their Math and Science grades for 3rd and Science only for 2nd.

Book Order – I am extending the due date for the Scholastic Book orders.  They will now be due on Friday, 12/5.

Don’t forget – Book bag assignments, spelling Tic-Tac-Toe and spelling sorts  are all due today.   I am still missing several November Reading Logs, please turn these in by Friday.

Friday Reading Log Check – I am going to start a Reading Log Check each Friday.   Please send in December Reading log on Friday.  I would like to check how much everyone is reading.  I will return it on Friday.  Instead of coloring the calendar, have your child write the number of minutes read on each day.  This reading log will be due after winter break.  I will send a new log for January right before break.

Holiday Performance – Our class will he having a holiday concert during their music time on Wednesday, 12/17 at 2:30.  A note went home a couple of days ago.

Holiday Celebration – I have a tradition of making Gingerbread Houses each year.  We will be making them this year on the Friday before Winter Break 12/19 at 2 pm.   I will need donations of candy for decorating, graham cracker for the walls and roof and white frosting to “glue” on the house and to be snow for the yard.  I have created a sign up list for everything we will need on SignUpGenius.  You should have received an email about it.  If you didn’t get it please check you Junk mail or Spam folders.  If you still don’t see it, please contact me to make sure I have your correct email.  Here is a link to the site:

Star of the Week this week is Waad

Holiday Boutique – Our class will be going to the Holiday Boutique on Wednesday, December 3rd at 9:30 am.  If you are interested in your child participating, please send in money in an envelope with your child’s name, please complete the shopping list at home and send it in.  Each item is $2.

Hamster – I will be bringing in my daughter’s hamster Max to visit the classroom for a while.  I there is anyone who has an allergy to hamster please let me know.   Max will be available for weekend visits at students’ houses.  If you were in my class last year you already know that Max is a very sweet hamster.    If you would like to have Max come to your house for a weekend visit, please send an email or respond to this blog post.  If you are taking him home you should pull into the parking lot by the office and come to the classroom when school is ending 3:35.  After I have dropped the other students off I will come back to the classroom and help you gather Max’s things for a weekend visit.

New Learning Site- I discovered a wonderful new learning site with language, math and science games.  We will be using it this week for our language work.  There are lessons, games and activities associated with each topic.  The topics we will be studying this week are pronouns, collective nouns, prefixes and homophones.  Please have your student practice these games at home and we will work on them in school and will take a quiz on each topic.  Each child has their own user name and password for me to track their progress.

After the click on the link below have them log out and sign in under their user name and password.
