Volunteers

Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to help in the classroom.  I have several volunteers for Friday morning.  I won’t need everyone every week.  But this week, everyone who volunteer can show up when they do drop off and we can work out a schedule.  I have several other projects that I need help with that we can discuss on Friday.

Homework

Spelling – The first week of spelling words when home this Friday.  Please help your child to study their words for their test next Friday and to complete their spelling activities that are due on Wednesday.

Reading Log– I will be sending home a reading log each week when we get a parent helper in to set up the reading bags.

Google Classroom – I will be making many of our assignments on Google Classroom.  There are two separate classes for Keebler’s class and 3rd Grade math.  We all tried to sign in to Google Classroom on Friday to do a Social Studies assignment.  We ran out of time because several students were having trouble signing in.  If students complete the assignment over the weekend they will get 20 extra credit points.  Here are the directions for signing in to Google Classroom.

  1. To get to Google Classroom – https://classroom.google.com/u/1/h
  2. IMPORTANT – Click on the down arrow next to the email address in the upper right and corner and sign out-THIS IS NOT YOUR STUDENT
  3. Sign in with the student’s lunch card number@dearbornschools.org as the username and their passwork is their birthday in month/day/year format, like this: mmddyyyy. For example February 3, 1965 would be 02031965.
  4. If they don’t know their lunch card number email me and I can send it to you.

No School on Monday, September 12

Happy Summer

I wanted to thank everyone for all the well wishes and presents during the last week of school.  This was a very sweet and thoughtful class.  I will miss everyone who is moving up or moving away.   I hope everyone is enjoying their first few days of summer.

I would like to stress the importance of summer learning.  Attached is a video link explaining why it is so important for students to continue to use their brains during the summer.  If they don’t their is a significant loss in the reading abilities and cognitive skills that will cause them to fall behind their peers and is difficult to catch up again.  Please watch this 2 minute visual of what can happen if students don’t continue to learn.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ahhj3wxxkdM
What can you do to stop this?!
My blog has many learning opportunities.  There is Moby Max, Front Row, Study Island, an interactive science section.  The students know how to log in to all of the programs.  If they have trouble the log in information is on the blog or email me and I will try to help.   They can write stories, letters or postcards.  I would love to see their stories or letters!   Send them to me via Google Docs or my email.  Take trips to the museums or science centers.  Most public libraries have a summer reading program with activities and prizes for reading.  Get out there and have fun and keep those brains moving!!!
Enjoy your summer and keep me posted about your vacations and activities!  See you in the fall.
