Star of the Week – Ryan

Field Trip and Chaperoning –  On Wednesday 2/8 we will be going to the Cranbrook Institute of Science.  If you are planning on chaperoning please make sure that you have your chaperoning paper work complete in the office by Monday or you will not be able to attend.  Make sure that your students and chaperones have a sack lunch.  There is a cafe but they have long lines at lunch time and we have a short time to eat, so please bring your lunch.  Chaperones will be watching a few students besides their own, they will be responsible for making sure that students follow the rules of the museum.  It is important to not bring any other children or talk on the phone while chaperoning so that you can help supervise.  Thank you for your cooperation.  If you are not chaperoning and you would like your student with a certain parent, please email or send me a note by Monday, I will do my best to accommodate all requests.   Parent should check into with the teacher so she know that you are here, then office and then wait in the cafeteria.  We will be leaving as soon as the bus arrives, hopefully by 9 AM.  It should be a wonderful trip!

Report Cards – Report cards went home with the students on Friday.  Please sign the envelope and return the envelope only.

NWEA report– Inside the report you will also have your new scores for the NWEA testing.   We will be having a reward party for all students who went up 5 points or more on at least one test.

2nd Grade NWEA– There were 5 students who did well on their previous NWEA and were raised to the same test the the 3rd graders take.  Congratulations to Celine, Alecia, Javier, Ryan,  and Micah!

Grade Equivalent and RIT -Below you will find the NWEA RIT score grade equivalent chart.  This chart allows you to compare your child’s RIT score the Dearborn Public Schools Grade Equivalent.  January when the test was given is the 5th month of school so your child should be at 2.5 for 2nd or 3.5 for 3rd.   So the target scores or grade equivalent for 2nd grade were 190 for Math and 189 for Language, for 3rd grade 203 for Math, 201 for Reading.    Moby Max can help increase their scores.

Moby Max Homework – Moby Max can help increase your students NWEA scores – Moby Max says some students can go up an entire grade level in a month! –  In any classroom their is a huge range of abilities.  Moby Max works at your students ability level, it finds areas that your student needs more help and it teaches them the missing skill.    I would like student to work on MobyMax between 15-20 minutes each night for homework.

Homework Policy and Stamp– Each student should be reading every night for 15-20 minutes, MobyMax for 15-20, practice spelling and math facts for 5 minutes and writing for 5-10 minutes (this includes the writing on the reading log).  Any  work that is not completed in class becomes homework or if the score less that 80% then it should be redone at home.  We have a new homework stamp that I will stamp if work needs to be completed at home.  It should be turned in the next day.  If for some reason there is something going on that makes it difficult for your student to complete their homework just write me a brief note.   Homework should not take longer than 45-60 minutes.   If it goes longer than 60 then stop and let me know you didn’t have time to finish.

Book order– went home on Friday.  If you are interested in ordering you may do so online or send back the order form, be sure to include the student’s name, books they would like and exact change in cash by Wednesday.
