Hello New 3rd graders,
I see several familiar names on my class list, and I am looking forward to seeing everyone again! I am also very excited to meet my new students! I have a fun and exciting year planned for us.
For those of you who have not met me yet, my name is Katie Keebler. I am married to Fred Keebler, I have two daughters, Elizabeth and Stephanie and I currently have 3 cats! I have been teaching since 1991. I started teaching at Howe Montessori in 2000.
IMPORTANT – Please visit my blog at https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/keebler/. Scroll down to the middle of the home page and enter your email into the “Subscribe by Email” box. This will be my main form of communication, so please keep your email current. If you have any questions please feel free to email me anytime at keeblek@dearbornschools.org. This is the best way to reach me.
I look forward to meeting everyone at the Open House, on Friday August 23rd from 12:00-1:30.
Katie Keebler
Supplies will be shared by the whole class
Thank you to everyone who sent cards and gifts! I truly appreciate your kindness and generosity. I have really enjoyed working with your students this year. I really grow to love all my students each year! I will miss them a lot! I sent home math and handwriting to work on over the summer. It is important to do some kind of academics over the summer so that students keep using their brains and don’t get the summer slide (loss of skills) over break. Students will get a prize for any books they complete over the summer, if they bring them back to me next year. I hope everyone has a wonderful, fun and restful summer. ENJOY! See you next year! Mrs. Keebler
Field day is being moved to tomorrow due to rain and storms on Wednesday.
Your child needs to bring a towel and water bottle. (frozen bottles work great on hot days)
We will spend the morning outside doing station rotations and then in the afternoon the fire truck will be coming. The kids can get wet with the fire truck as it sprays us in the back parking lot.
**Due to bathroom space issues we will not be able to change after the fire truck. You can either take your child home after the event (around 230) OR we will play on the playground after until we dry off. If you take your child home please check out with your teacher!!!!
It is the last week of school! This week we will be wrapping things up, celebrating summer birthdays and closing up the classroom for the summer.
Monday – Bring your backpacks, we will be cleaning out our desks, I will be sending home any unfinished workbooks to complete over the summer. Doing academics over the summer will help your brain avoid the summer slide. Summer slide is when kid”s reading and math levels go down during the summer and they lose their progress they made during the school year. I will give a prize to anyone who returns a completed book in the fall.
Tuesday is not an early release. Dismissal at our regular time. Picnic day – Bring a beach towel and we will eat outside.
Wednesday – is field day in the morning
Thursday is summer birthday party (Mo, Youssef and Noah) and end of the year party – feel free to bring a treat or food to share with the class. Does anyone want to buy pizza for the class?
Friday – last day of school 1/2 day. Dismissal at 12:05 Enjoy your summer!
Here is the link to our Natural Disaster Computer Projects. Students had a lot of fun using a program called Adobe Express Create. They were able to take our research reports and turn them into a movie or animation. The best way to view these would be on a Dearborn Chromebook or computer that has Adobe. You probably won’t be able to view these on your phone. Enjoy!

Any missing work that is not complete must be turned in tomorrow. This include the paper and electronic copies of the Natural Disaster project, all magazines and pamphlets. Tomorrow is the last day of the marking period and we will be on a field trip ALL day. Put the papers in the box in the morning.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to drive to our field trip. If the people who volunteered to try take their children in their cars with them, then we should have plenty of room on the bus for everyone.
Please remember to pack a lunch, wear clothes toe shoes, long pants and bug spray for mosquitoes and ticks.
Chaperones please arrive before 9:00 check in with your teacher and wait in the cafeteria.
Kensington Field Trip – This Friday, May 31st. 9 AM-4PM Please pack at LUNCH, wear closed toed shoes (NO SANDALS, FLIP FLOPS OR CROCS), wear a red t-shirt or a Howe School shirt. Wear long pants or use bug spray for mosquitos and ticks. I think we have enough space for parents, thanks to the parents that volunteered to drive themselves. I will be working with Mr. Zamora and Ms. Polster to create a chaperone list. If you have a chaperone preference please contact your teacher. If you are going directly to the park, please let your teacher know, we will be meeting at the Nature Center about 9:45. If you have any questions please email me at keeblek@dearbornschools.org or send me a Class Dojo message. If you are chaperoning please check in with your teacher, so she knows you have arrived and wait in the cafeteria.
The grades are due by the end of the week. Please try to have any missing work in by Wednesday or Thursday at the latest to give me time to grade and record everything. We are going to concentrate on getting everything complete this week, we will get more math completed at time permits.
Math – We will be taking the topic C quiz on Tuesday, make sure that everyone is caught up with their lessons up to lesson 16.
ELA – We are on the final week of Benchmark. We will be studying Unit 10 Week 3– Spelling – Related Words, Grammar Possessives
Writing Project – We have been creating reports on Natural Disasters. The final drafts were due last Friday. Students are now using a program called Adobe Express Create to make their project digital. This should be complete by Thursday also. When the projects are complete we will be displaying on Padlet and sharing them with the parents. Ask your child how they are doing on their report.
Alirida is Star of the Week

We only have 15 seats available on the bus for parents on the Kensington Field Trip on May 31st. We currently have 25 chaperones. If you prefer to drive or can carpool with another parent, please let us know as soon as possible. If we get enough volunteers to drive then it is all set. If not we may need to have a lottery to pick the parents on the bus. Also if you have students that you would prefer to chaperone please let me know. We will be assigning chaperones to students soon.
Missing Assingments – The marking period is ending at the end of next week. All missing work will be due by Wednesday 5/29 so that I have time to grade and record all the work before the grading period ends. I will give every child a new list of missing work next week.
