Retirement

I have decided that I will be retiring. This has been a very hard decision for me. I love Howe school! I started working here in the year 2000!  Howe School is like my family! However, my actual family really needs me now. My 88-year-old parents are having a lot of health issues and are needing a lot more assistance from me now.  We have had many doctor’s appointments this year, so I’ve decided the time has come for me to retire. I am right now working with the Office of Retirement Services to complete my paperwork and figure out the exact date of my retirement.  I became eligible for retirement on my birthday in February.  However, for consistency, I have decided that I plan to stay until the end of the school year and at this point in time I plan to teach summer school, bearing no unforeseen circumstances. Unfortunately, I’m not in control of which days I will be absent and will probably still be absent 1-4 times a month to take care of my parents.  One of the days I need to miss is this Friday 3/21.  But you are in great hands!  Ms. Drennon will be there.  Mr. Zamora will be in charge of everything and we have lots of chaperones.  If anyone has any questions or concerns about anything, please let me know. I would be happy to talk to any parents that have questions.  It is better if you have questions to talk to me directly than to talk to other people or to talk to the principal. I am the one with the most information about what is going on in our classroom. I love your students and our school tremendously, and I will greatly miss everyone at Howe school when I am gone.

Today’s news

Today I sent home the book order forms for the book we are writing as a class.  We are trying to finish everything this week.  So please place your orders as soon as possible.  You may use the QR code and order online or send back the paper copy with a check/cash. Once we submit the book to the publisher then you can no longer order at the discounted price.  The book is looking GREAT!  I am so proud of our artists and poets.  If you can’t afford a book let me know and I’ll see if someone will donate one.  I was also hoping someone would be willing to donate a Deluxe copy to the library so that the whole school can read our book!

Picture day – I also sent home the picture day flyer.  We will have picture day the first day back from break.  You may turn in your form now, so you don’t forget.

Homework is Lesson 2 in math.  There is no regular reading log this week only the March is Reading month log.  There is no Spelling Pamphlet this week.

All missing work is due tomorrow.  Check the back of the communication folder for the list of what is missing.

The last day of the Scholastic Book Fair is tomorrow in the morning only.

This Week’s News

Next week is Spirit Week

Chess Club will no longer meet in the mornings. They will now be meeting on Thursdays at lunch.

Ali S will be Star of the Week starting 3/17.

Exciting News!! I am very excited to announce that we are going to publish a real hardcover book with a publisher!! Your child will soon be a published author!! We have been working hard on the artwork and poems. We will be taking the photos of the students to be included in the book on Monday so feel free to dress up nice and fix you hair. If there is anyone who does not want their student’s picture, artwork or poem published in the book please let me know RIGHT AWAY and I will delete them from the book! We will try to finish all of our poetry and artwork by Wednesday, if we get the book to the publisher this week, it should be back in about a month. Sneak preview of our book. I put it in Docusign, hopefully it let’s you open it. Remember it is still in progress. The drawings and poems are in number/alphabetical order. Several students are still creating, editing and finishing their drawings. If your child’s page is blank they didn’t turn in anything. We hope to have everything complete and to the publisher this week.

Cover Art Contest – Our book will need a cover, so we will have a cover art contest. Please draw a picture that includes the title “The Color of Our Emotions”, it must be in marker and be aligned vertically NOT horizontally. The class will vote on their favorite to be our cover. All submissions are due on Monday. We will vote Tuesday.

Fasting – Please pack food for your child even if they are fasting. Most students that are trying fasting are very hungry by afternoon and asking everyone for food please provide them food if the want to break their fast.

Field trip to The Cranbrook Institute of Science is Friday, March 21st – Reminders:

-Please pack a lunch (even if you are fasting, many fasters are asking for food by afternoon) If you would like to order a sunbutter and jelly sandwich from the cafeteria to bring please let your teacher know by Tuesday.

-Please wear red – School t-shirt would be great (this color is easy for chaperones and teachers to see)

-Mr. Zamora’s Group is Group A, Ms. Polster’s Group is Group B, Mrs. Keebler’s Group is Group C, Know your group letter.

We have many chaperones and limit space on the bus so chaperones might need to drive. Students will ride on the bus. If you need to leave early for any reason please check out with your teacher and let them know you are leaving. You may only leave with your own child.

End of Marking period – All work due Wednesday 3/19 – all students have their list of missing assignments in the outer sleeve of their communication folder. Any missing work will become zeros in the grade book which is a 4 on the report card. If you have any questions about what is missing or where to find it online you can message me in Class Dojo.

No Spelling this week – because of the field trip, missing work, and finishing our book we will skip our spelling pamphlet and spelling test this week. We will begin Unit 5 in math. We will still do our reading logs.

Summer Discovery Program application – We are planning a fun summer program for the kids! I encourage all students whose i-Ready scores are below grade level or anyone else who would like to join the fun to fill out an application. If I didn’t have enough time to conference you and you don’t know if they are below grade level please message me on Class Dojo and I can let you know their level.
