Class News

Next week is a short week – No school – November 25-29  – Have a great Thanksgiving Break

MyOn Earth Science Project Homework– Both classes have been working on an Earth Science project on MyOn in class.  I have extended the deadline to November 30th.  I would like all students to finish their projects at home for homework.   Here are the directions:

  1. They need to log on to MyOn.com,
  2. click on the projects tab
  3. Click on the Earth science project
  4. Read 3 books and take notes in the online journal about 5 earth materials and how we use them.
  5. Click on the writing assignment.  Write 5 earth materials and how we use them.
  6. Click to submit the project.

If you have any questions on what needs to be done please email me at keeblek@dearbornschools.org.

I have put comments on most student’s projects to let you know what they have left to complete.  If your project is finished I have posted your scores on MyOn and Parent Connect.  It looks like some are finished writing but didn’t finish reading the books.  Make sure you hit submit.

Spelling Homework  and Reading logs– Please check your child’s spelling homework before it is turned in.  Students have been getting sloppy and spelling the spelling words wrong on the homework.  It is not good for them to practice spelling them the wrong way during the week.   Remind them the spelling words are written right on the paper.  Please be careful and spell them correctly.  Please emphasis the importance of doing their best on all home work.  Please ask them to use their neatest handwriting, spell words correctly and capitalize all proper nouns and the first letter of every sentence.  They also need to capitalize the title and the author of a book and put a period at the end of every sentence.  I would also like a lot of the students to put more effort into the sentences.  I would like to learn more about the book than you would just know from the title.  They should write something they actually learned while reading.  Thank you for your support in our team effort to educate your child.

Spelling Homework – The spelling homework was passed out on Friday and will not be due until the following week.  There will be no test next week.

The Check – Please  make sure that all papers have a check in the upper right hand corner of the paper.   This is my symbol that I have recorded the assignment in the grade book.  If you get papers back and they do not have my check in the corner, please send them back to school.  I have noticed that some students are putting papers in the wrong boxes.  This may cause students to passed back papers before I have seen them.  If this happens please send them back to school.

The school food drive will be over on Monday.  If you plan on donating nonperishable foods, Monday is the last day.

Winter Concert – There will be a December 15th at 6 PM.  More details to follow soon.

Missing Assignment Report – Here is the most recent missing assignment report, please check and make sure your child has completed all their assignments. – 11-21 GradeBookMissingScores

Keebler Class News

Missing Towers – Someone put a note in my box this morning about a missing Tower and can it be made up.  But there was no name.   Towers are a Montessori Word Study activity.  There are a few posted on the blog that can be done at home and turned in.  There is an SRA / Tower tab on the right near the bottom of the blog.  The student should know what letter section they are working on.

1/2 day Friday – Dismissal at 11:45

Missing Work – I have gotten a lot of missing work over the last couple of days.  I will be putting in all the missing work tonight.  Please check your parent connect later this evening or tomorrow.   All work needs to be turned in by Friday morning at the very latest.   Any missing assignments will be changed to zeros in the grade book which will lower the students overall grade.

Book Bag Volunteer needed – My previous Book Bag mom is no longer able to change out the book bags.    I need a new parent who can switch out the books each week.  In the mean time until I find a new volunteer, students can use MyOn to read books at home.

MyOn Reading Contest – We are having a MyOn Reading contest starting today until 11/24.  Each student has a goal of reading 20 books in the time period on MyOn.  There will be a prize for the student who reads the most books.  They must complete the quiz at the end of each book for it to count.  I would prefer that they are reading and not listening to the book.  There is a Shh! button at the bottom of the page to turn off the sound.

MyOn Project – I have assigned a MyOn reading project called Earth Science.   The students can work on it at home or at school.  It is due on 11/20.  The instructions are on MyOn.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Parent Teacher Conferences – I still have several parent who did not sign up for conferences.  Please contact me asap to let me know what time will work for you on 11/12, 11/18, 11/19.  If I don’t here from those who didn’t sign up, I will assign you a time.  I will be sending home conference time reminder slips soon.

Google Classroom –

To help students and parents keep track of when assignments are due, I have decided to start using Google classroom.   I have posted some of the assignments that are due this week and all of the students have logged on.  I have added the login information to the Links section of my blog.  Students can log in check which work needs to be completed and mark it complete when they turn it in.  Parents can check what a student needs to complete by logging in as the student (remember the student will be the one checking it completed).  To know if it has been turned in and  recorded please check Parent Connect.

Loosing points on assignments – students will loose points on their assignments if they are incomplete, have wrong answers, or if there are missing parts like the name, parent signature or reading totals.   I am always willing to return the points if the student makes the necessary corrections and turn it in again.  They need to learn to do their work carefully so they include everything and don’t loose any points.

Keeping assignments:  I suggest you keep your students work for about 1 week after it was due before recycling it.  I will do a missing assignment report on Fridays.   If they have no missing work that that point it is safe to recycle it.  Please check Parent Connect on Fridays for missing work to be completed by the following Monday.

How do I tell if the assignment was recorded? – If there is a check in the upper right hand corner of the paper that means that I have recorded it.  If you do not see the check that means I have not seen the assignment and it needs to be turned in.

Lego Club is now full.  If you were hoping to have your child be in Lego club they may be able to take more students if they have more parent volunteers.   Please let the office know if you would be willing to volunteer.

Parent Volunteers needed for Fall Party 10/30 – 8:30 am to 11:30 am

Trunk or Treat Party 10/30 6 PM-7PM – Cars are needed to decorate and volunteers are needed.
