Input needed

We are reaching out with an ask regarding  our MLUP process.  We need help spreading the word about the available survey- that we need everyone in Dearborn’s to provide their input. !

We are writing to share 3 updates on the City’s Master Land Use Plan project:

1. The survey has been extended to May 5. We currently have over 450 responses and would love to reach closer to 1,000.
Please continue to encourage your peers, friends, neighbors, and kids to take it at www.plandearborn.org. You could just forward this email, or share the flyer attached.

2. We are also hosting listening events on April 29 and May 2 at a variety of places in Dearborn: Fordson High School, O.L. Smith Middle School, Salina Elementary School, Centennial Library, and the Arab American National Museum.
These will be focused on neighborhoods, and help inform future land use in Dearborn. Please see the flyer below with complete details and specific event dates/times. There is a virtual option for folks unable to attend on those dates.
No need to RSVP, and people can show up anytime during the events !

3. We extend our thanks to everyone who has participated in the process so far! We’re very grateful for your ideas, time, and passion for Dearborn. It shows in the survey responses and feedback to date.

The City of Dearborn is undertaking a Master Land Use Plan Update and we need your help getting the word out to the community to complete the survey and to attend the community meetings to have their voices heard and get more information.

Here is the link to take the Survey:  Dearborn MLUP Survey          We need more feedback from all of you.  See the flyers attached for locations to attend !
YOU MIGHT BE WONDERING

What is the MLUP? A Master Land Use Plan helps guide city leaders as they chart out the city’s future, developing land use, transportation, economic development, parks and recreation, housing, and environmental sustainability goals and objectives.

Who’s involved?
Everyone In Dearborn!    Stakeholders of Dearborn such as Residents, Business Owners, Employees, City Staff, Associations, Boards/Nonprofits, Elected Officials and leaders like you!

How can I be heard? Please fill out the community driven (flier attached) and attend one of the upcoming community meetings (flier attached).

How do I learn more? Visit the website Plan Dearborn!

The consultant will be hosting several location Community Meet-ups  where you can get more information and provide your feedback.

Your Help Is Much Appreciated  !

On Behalf of the City of Dearborn, Economic Development Department and our Consultant Host  Beckett&Raeder, Inc.

Thank you,
Laura Gonzales

Summer Discovery Program at Howe

Thanks to a multi-million grant, Dearborn Public Schools is planning a large 2024 Summer Discovery Program for current elementary and middle school students.

The free Summer Discovery Program will provide hours of additional math and literacy education for students, using an extension of the same curriculum students received during the school year.  A variety of enrichment activities will also be included.  Students will attend their regular schools, except students at four elementary schools undergoing construction this summer (Haigh, Howard, Long and Nowlin) who will attend other schools in their area.

Parents are asked to contact the office at their child’s school to enroll their student for the summer program no later than May 10, 2024.

Slots are available for about 3,500 students.  The program is only open to students already enrolled in Dearborn Public School and currently in grades kindergarten through 8th grade. Free breakfast and lunch will be available to participating students.

The Summer Discovery Program is mostly funded through a grant of up to $7 million from the Ballmer Group and United Way for Southeastern Michigan.  Supplemental funding is also coming from Title I and 23G grants.

Classes will run for 25 days from Wednesday, June 12 to Wednesday, July 24.  Days off include June 17 and 18 for Eid and July 4, 5, 12 and 19. Elementary students, Lowrey, Mc/Unis, and Salina Intermediate students   will have literacy, math and enrichment from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with optional free childcare extending until 4 p.m.  Middle school programs will run from 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. each day, with optional free child care lasting until 4:45 p.m. Students eligible for transportation during the school year are eligible for transportation to and from the summer academic program. Transportation home is not available for students remaining for child care.

Dearborn Public Schools usually offers some summer programs at most schools, but typically the programs are much smaller and focus on helping struggling students strengthen their academic skills.  The 2024 Summer Discovery Program is intended to reach a much larger number of students and provide more instruction and more enrichment. In the summer of 2021, Dearborn Public Schools used COVID relief funds to provide a Summer Academic and Enrichment Program to more than 8,400 students across the district.

“We are extremely thankful for this grant that will allow us to provide a great summer program to thousands of students in the district,” said Superintendent Dr. Glenn Maleyko.  “We are looking forward to providing students a fun and educational experience that strengthens their academic skills.”
