Class News

1/2 day tomorrow – this is another reminder that we have a 1/2 day tomorrow.  You should have gotten a Class Dojo reminder also.

Math Homework – We will have math homework on most days.  I already have several students who are missing some or all of the math homework or class papers.  Please check with your student each night to make sure they complete any papers in their folders.

Parent Connect – if you not sure if you student is missing paper please check parent connect.  You should check this at least once a week.  Thursday night is a great day to check, because I give rewards to all students who have completed all work by Friday.

Yasmeen is our Star of the Week starting on Monday.  Check the blog for a list of things to do for Star of the Week.

Firefighter – next Thursday there will be a firefighter visiting our classroom to talk about fire safety and our visit to the Smoke House.  All 3rd grader in Dearborn go to the Dearborn Smoke House to learn more about fire safety.  Our Smoke House field trip is October 4th at 12:30.  Permission slips will go home soon.

Chaperones and Volunteers – Please make sure that you have all your paperwork turned into the office if you plan to chaperone or volunteer in the classroom or at school this year.  It take 1-2 weeks to get the paperwork back so please take care of it right away if you would like to join us at the Dearborn Smoke House on October 4th.

WIDA test results – went home with any students that took this test last spring.  If you have any questions about your child’s test results please email me and I will forward it to someone who can help you.

Book – it Pizza Hut program – Students will be getting calendars to record the number of minutes they read each day.  We recommend 20 minutes of reading a day.  They need to turn this in at the end of each month.  They will get a coupon for FREE pizza for everyone they turn in.  This is required assignment not optional.

Reading Log – We will also be doing an online reading log this year.  It will be on Google classroom.  Students need to fill in 5 entries per week about the books that they read.   It will be labeled by the same week at the spelling week.

Spelling tests – We will be taking the Week 2 spelling test tomorrow.  If you look on Parent Connect and notice that the Week 1 spelling test is missing, there are a few students who did not hit the submit button on last week’s spelling test.  They can do this from home tonight or I will remind them to do it tomorrow during our Week 2 test.

Fall Reading Assessments – I have set up a reading assessment for everyone on Raz-Kids.  They are welcome to complete it over the weekend,  if they would like to.  Here is the log in information:

Website: https://www.kidsa-z.com/main/Login

Teacher's name: kkeebler0
Then choose their name, most students chose the fish as the password.

In the upper left corner click "Reading" then on the list click "Assessment".

When they are finished reading, they complete the retell and quiz.
Tell them to be careful answering the quiz.  There are only 5 questions,
therefore they can only miss one question to pass the quiz.

Make sure they include the following information on the retell:

Fiction Retell

Describe what happened in the proper order.

What is the problem in the story?

Who the main characters are and why they are the most important?

How is the problem in the story solved and how does the story ends?

Describe where the story takes place?

Nonfiction Retell

Summary-Summarize the topic’s most important ideas and details

Vocabulary- Tell about the passage or book using key terms from the text.

Main Idea(s)-Tell the main idea(s) of the passage or book.

Accuracy-Tell facts from the passage or book accurately.

Supporting Details-Tell details supporting the main idea(s).

French Language Survey Reminder

Bonjour !  We just started French lessons in all of the Montessori classrooms on Friday.  All of the kids were very eager to learn French, and I was really impressed by how quickly they learned!  I would like to thank all of the parents who completed the language survey that was sent out earlier in the year—about half have responded so far.  That information is really valuable, both for my research and for getting to know your kids.  https://goo.gl/forms/O6r8n2PFQPfALVDt1 This is the link to the survey.  If you haven’t filled it out yet, please take just a few minutes to fill it out now.  Thank you!
