Parent Teacher Conferences – There are still several parents that have not signed up for Parent Teacher conferences in November.  Here is the link to sign up:  https://signup.com/go/UAVVSFG

Missing Assignments – I will be putting zeros for all missing assignments that are older that 1 week.  Zero have a big impact on your student’s grade.  All missing assignments will still be accepted until 10/31 which is 2 days before the marking period ends.  This gives me time to grade the assignments and get them recorded.   Look for the zeros on  Parent Connect when looking for missing work.

Good behavior  reward- I forgot to take a picture of the students who got the good behavior reward this week.  Here are the numbers: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15,16, 18, 20.  Thank you for doing a great job and your cooperation!

Green Team sale – On Tuesday after school Green Team will be having a fundraiser.  We are trying to raise money to create a Monarch Waylay Station at our school.  This is a butterfly garden with milkweed that give the monarchs a place to stay during the summer and rest on their way to Mexico in the winter.  Help save the Monarchs by planting milkweed in your garden also!  At our fundraiser we will have Milkweed seeds, crayons in fun shapes and baked goods.  If you are interested in donating bake goods or pizza to our sale please bring it to the Montessori kitchen before 3:15.  Thanks for supporting the Monarchs and Green Team.

Class News

1/2 Day tomorrow – dismissal at 11:45

Friday reward – the students that have all the work completed right now and will get the Friday reward are:  2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 14, 16.  I will continue to put papers in tonight.  There are quite a few students who have work to complete tonight please check your parent connect.

PTA is having an apparel sale.  Flyers went out several days ago.  All orders  due by October 17.

Book Orders went out this week and are due tomorrow.  You may also order online.  I will leave the online order open until Saturday night.  The class code is on the flyer that went home.

Box Tops Contest – PTA is having a box tops contest.  There will be a Pizza Party for the class with the most box tops.  So start saving those Box tops.

Book bag parent letter-Tomorrow you will be getting a letter about book bags.  Kids will switch out their own book bags on Thursday.  We have limited books so if a child looses a book they will need to pay for a new one.

Popcorn sale– You should have gotten an envelope for a popcorn sale.  Put $1 in the envelope and write your child’s name.  If they would like to buy more than 1 bag of popcorn write the number they are buying on the outside of the envelope also.

Star of the Week – Ahmad B

1/2 Day Friday – Dismissal at 11:45

Book orders – Book order forms will go out this week and be due on Friday.  You may also order online.  Cash only please.  This helps us provide more books for the classroom and is a great way to get inexpensive books for your child.  Send me a note with the order if you would like to give them as presents to your child, I can place them in a bag so they can’t see them.

Popcorn Sale this week – PTA will be taking pre-orders and popcorn will be passed out on Friday.

Picture Day – 10/19 – Order forms went home last week.

Field Trip to Cranbrook – Nov 8th – Permission slips and money due last week.  Please get them in ASAP so we can let the museum know the total number this week.

PTA – Is looking for volunteers to help with the Halloween Party on Halloween check out their blog, if you would like to join PTA they are very beneficial to our school.   Membership dues help benefit the PTA , our students and our schools.  Help support the school by joining.

Math Test Tuesday or Wednesday

– Please use the practice test in the previous post, the exit tickets and problem sets for a study guide.

Field trip to the Fire Safety House Thursday

We will depart by bus between 12:15-12:30.  If you are chaperoning please check in with the office and wait on the couches outside the office.

Permission slips due-

For our Cranbrook trip on November 8th by Friday.  Please turn them in as soon as possible.

Book bags-

Went home on Friday.  This is to help supplement your reading materials at home.  They are due by Thursday.  If students finish their book early and would like to switch them sooner that is fine.

Ada is our new Star of the Week- please read the blog so you know all the things to do.

Class Dojo –

On Friday I posted the reward pictures for student who earned their Friday rewards, you can keep track of their positive and negative behavior (I will post messages there if there are behavior issues), I have been double posting information on both the Blog and Class Dogo while we are waiting for 1 family to sign up for Class Dojo.  If your family has not signed up for Class Dojo, please sign up right away.

Student of the Month- this month is Amelie.  Congratulations!

Daily Homework expectations

Daily Reading 20 minutes -Each day students should be reading for 20 minutes, they should be reading books at their reading level.

Reading Log-This is on Google Classroom.  They need to complete all entries by Thursday.  They need to write 3-5 sentences by Thursday, these will answer the DOK question they choose.

Math – Most days there should be a math paper coming home for homework.  This will vary depending on how long the lesson takes.  They should also practice multiplication facts daily.

Practice spelling words – your student should be practicing their words each night for the test Friday.  We have computer spelling activities we will do in school also.

Unfinished work– any work that is not finished in class should be completed at home.  Please check Parent Connect to keep up with your student’s missing assignments.

Mid-Module Assessment – We will be having our first math test on Monday or Tuesday, depending on how much we finish tomorrow.  To help them prepare for the test next week, I have placed 2 sample test online.  Student can get to them by:

  1. Go to Dearborn Public Schools website
  2. Go to Student Resources
  3. Go to Clever
  4. Go to Edulastic
  5. Any time a log in is needed use their lunchcard number @dearbornschools.org, password is their birthday mmddyyyy.

Missing Work

I posted on Class Dojo there are only 5 people in the class that will be getting the Completed work award.  If your student is not on the list I posted, please check Parent Connect.  Make sure you check the box at the top right of the page that says “Show all assignments”.  Otherwise, it will only show you some of the assignments.

Field Trip to Cranbrook 11/8/18

Field Trip to Cranbrook 11/8/18 – I am very excited about our next field trip.  We will be involved on an exciting stage show about Force and Motion, a great class on the Three Fires Native Americans and we get to see the Da Vinci Machines and Robotics exhibit.  This will be a FREE trip for us.  The museum needs our final number 21 days in advance.  Permission slips are going home today and need to be returned by 10/5.  I hope you can join us.  Don’t delay in returning your slip.

Week 4 Reading Log is posted on Google Classroom – Students are to read 20 minutes each night. They are to write one entry each day with the final entry due by Thursday. This is homework and should mostly be done at home.  Click here to go to Google Classroom.  Be sure your student is logged in as themselves not you.  There Google log-in is their lunch card number @dearbornschools.org.  Password is their birthday mmddyyyy.

Week 4 Spelling Words – The new spelling activities are now open on iLearn.  Click here to access the website.  Sign in the same as Google Classroom above.   Students should try to complete these in class but this becomes homework if not completed in class.  They are welcome to complete activities early on the weekend if they choose.  If they would like more spelling activities let me know.

Multiplication facts  homework- 3rd graders need to know their multiplication facts, having them memorized greatly and being able to say and write them quickly will greatly increase their ability to do well in math.  Please practice them with your child or have them play a math game to practice them.  Quiz them when you are driving.  They should practice math facts each day for 5-10 minutes

Smoke House Trip – We will be visiting the Smoke House on October 4th at 12:30.  Permission slips will go home on Monday.  There is not much room for parents, but you are welcome to come if you would like.  You may have to stand outside if it is too crowded.  This is more of a safety informational trip, we will have more fun trips later in the year.  Please  check the office to make sure you have all the necessary paperwork completed for chaperones.

Class Dojo – Please try to check Class Dojo on a regular basis.  I will be posting last minute reminders, behavior updates (good and bad), pictures and individual messages.

Parent Connect – Please check your Parent Connect a least once a week.  Thursday is the best day, students will be rewarded on Fridays if all work is complete.

Technical difficulties – If you are having difficulty getting on anything please let  me know.   I will do my best to help you remotely.  If that doesn’t work we can schedule a time to meet and I will help you.  Please bring the device that you will mostly be using to log in if possible.

Class News

Your child’s name – Please ALWAYS use your child’s name when communicating with me about your child.  Someone left a comment on the blog this weekend with no child’s name.   If you do this it makes it very hard for me to know who you are talking about especially if you don’t have the same last name as your child.  Thanks!

Missing Math Pages – I have added the link to the math book online.  If your student is missing any math work, just click on the link below.  It will bring you to the math book and you can print the missing assignment at home.

Skating Party is this Thursday.  Here is the information:

Date:  September 20th (Thursday)
Time:  6:00pm-8:00pm
Tickets:  $7.00/each (includes skate rental and ice cream sundae)
All families, students, siblings, extended family, etc. are invited.  🙂
**If any families send in money for tickets, send it back.  Tickets are sold at the door only, I’m not taking any ticket orders.

Reading Log – All students were able to log in to Google Classroom to get to their reading log.  All student should have at least started their reading log in school.   They will continue to do them at home as homework.  They are due by Thursday.

Reading log

If you are having trouble getting in to the reading log, don’t worry I will show everyone how to use it on Monday.  I see different things as a teacher than  the student view, so it is hard to explain how to do something I can’t see.
