Native American Notes and Outlines

Native American Notes and Outlines – We have completed these assignments in class last week and they are now past due and it is now homework.  There are a several students who need to make corrections or need to complete their notes and outlines.  I have put notes explaining what is needed.  I will continue to review the students work tonight to make sure everyone is finished.  If you student has less than a 18 then there is still something that they need to improve.   EVERYONE please have your student show you their work and check to make sure they have followed all my suggested comments.  They may resolve the comment only after they have made the correction.

Week 12 Spelling and Reading log Homework postponed – We are beginning our rough draft this week and they must have this completed in order for the class to continue.  In order to make sure that this is completed I am going to postpone spelling and reading log homework for this week.  Anything that has already been completed on the Week 12 reading log or Week 12 spelling will count toward next week.  Please put all your efforts in to making sure the notes and outline are complete.  If you have extra time you can start on your poster board or Native American artifact or project.

Brainstormers Take off Show Assembly– We had a wonderful writing assembly on Tuesday.  The Brainstormers came in and performed several types of writing created by the audience.  The children got to help create the stories and perform them on stage with the other actors.  The students will be writing their own stories based on what we learned on Tuesday and we will be sending them in to Brainstormers.   They will pick several of the student’s stories to perform on stage.  If they are chosen they get to sit in the special author’s chair on stage, to watch their story being performed.  They can continue to write their Brianstormer  story over break if they have time.

Week 12 Spelling – is now open if student would like to start studying the words.  The week 12 spelling test will be on November 30th

Week 12 reading log – is now open.  The reading log is due November 28th.

Native American Research report draft – On Monday we begin our Native American Research report rough draft.  We will be working with the district Technology Coach to write our rough draft in iLearn.  The students will then learn how to do Peer editing and give anonymous actionable feedback to their peer using iLearn.

Native American notes– Student should be finished with their Native American research notes.  There are several students who are not quite finished.  Please have them log in to Google Classroom and show you their notes.  They should have taken notes from 3 different websites or books, they should have at least 3 subtopics and minimum of 5 details under each topic.  These must be complete by Monday so we can all begin our rough draft.

Native American outline-This should also be finished.  Please have your student show it to you.  This is done after their notes are complete .  They need to type a sentence or two in each section of the outline.  This must be complete by Monday so that we can begin our draft.

Native American project and poster board – Student will be completing a poster board and project at home to go along with their Native  American research report.  The should have begun thinking about what they will create and start gathering pictures to use on their board.  I suggest they have some sort of interactive board or game for their audience to make it interesting.  Creating an artifact for their audience would also be wonderful.   See the assignment guidelines here.

Kandinsky Arrays

A lot of students have not completed their Kandinsky Circles arrays.  This is something that can be completed at home and is a lot of fun.  They should fold a piece of printer paper in to equal squares to form an array.  Then they color circles in each square to create their own Kandinsky art.  See the example of Kandinsky art below.  Write their name and multiplication fact that they created on the back.  I can’t wait to see everyone’s artwork!

 This array is 3 x 4=12

Missing Assignments are on the blog

I would like to remind everyone that most of the missing work can be found on my blog.   Most assignments are attached to my lesson plans.  Lesson plans are on the Homework and Lesson Plans tab.  Once you click on my lesson plans go to the date before the assignment was recorded and look for the correct subject.  You can usually find the assignment attached at the bottom.  Ask your child if it looks familiar before printing it.

If you need help finding something please send me an email.  Do not reply to the blog post, this is not a reliable form of communication, since I can only reply to the whole class not just you.  Please remember to use your child’s name when communicating with me, many parents have different last names that their children or emails that don’t clearly state your name.

Remember all missing work must be completed by this Wednesday, 10-31.

Chaperones – Also if you would like your student to be with a particular parent or if you would like to chaperone a certain child during our trip to Cranbrook, please send me an email.   I will do my best to accommodate your requests.  Here are the kids that have chaperones coming: Yasmeen, Ahmed B,  Serafine, Rawad, Kareen, Maya, Julia, Hadi, Amelie, Adam, Mohamed, Addie.  We should have plenty of room for all parents on the bus.  I would prefer you ride the bus to driving separately so check in to the museum goes smoothly.  Since I have 12 chaperone each chaperone will only take 1 other student besides their own.
