Class News

Star of the Week – Mohamed

The 2nd  – 5th African Cultural Play Date is set for June 7th, 2019 at 1PM  – for more details on the cultural play click here.

Field Trip Friday – We had a great time at the Outdoor Adventure Center.  I will be posting pictures on Class Dojo soon.  I have been out of town all weekend and I’m just getting caught up now.

Green Field Village Trip and Factory Tour – will be  May 7th 10 AM – 1:30 PM we will be taking a bus.

March is Reading Month – This week for March is Reading month – The packets went home Friday for March is reading month.  Here is the calendar.

Monday – Bring a Dr. Seuss book and/or a book about sports – we will be reading and writing about sports today.

Tuesday – Read or write a poem. Bring a poetry book or your favorite poem.  We are still looking for a Mystery Reader to read to the class. If you are interested in reading to the class please let me know.

Wednesday – Wear your favorite sport shirt.

Thursday – DEAR with Ms. Truxall’s class

Friday – Bring your favorite book and a flashlight to read in the dark.

Class News

I’m Finally Back!  – I’m happy to be healthy again and back at work after being sick for 3 days! Yuck!  Thanks for all the well wishes and kind words!

Field Trip Tomorrow – please wear red or a Howe School t-shirt.  Students will each lunch at 10:30, parents please make sure that you eat before we go.  The bus is scheduled to leave by 10:45, chaperones please check in with the office, let me know you are here and then you are welcome to sit with your kids in the cafeteria until we are ready to leave at 10:45.  We will also eat a snack when we return.  We will do the book swap at 2:30 after we return to school.

March is Reading Month starts tomorrow:  There will be a packet going home tomorrow that explains everything.  Tomorrow is supposed to be bring your favorite Dr. Seuss book to school, but I would like to do that on Monday instead since we will be gone for a big chunk of the day.

Mystery Readers – Each week we will have “mystery readers” read to the class.  If you would like to come in and surprise your child with a mystery read please send me an email with day that works for you.  Mystery readers will read right after school starts from about 8:40-8:50.  If this time doesn’t work for you I can be somewhat flexible, just let me know what works for you and I’ll see what I can do.  My email is keeblek@dearbornschools.org.

DTE form – We will have DTE come out next Tuesday to teach about energy.  They will be sending each student with an energy savings kit.  If for some reason you don’t want to participate you should send back the form and you will not get the kit.  Only send back the form if you do NOT want the free kit.

Class News

Out Sick Again – I have a bad cold and I will be out sick again tomorrow (Wednesday 2/27).  If you have any questions you can email me and I’ll do my best to answer.

Outdoor Adventure Center – 3/1 This Friday – It should be a great trip!  As of last Friday I am missing the following permission slips: 4, 6, 11, 12, 16, 17.    If you turned them in while I was gone GREAT.   If not please print this Permission Slip and turn it in ASAP.  Thanks!

Google Classroom – to make things easier for the sub I have been putting a lot of the work on Google Classroom.  Please check Google Classroom to make sure your student has completed their work.

Math Quiz- We are scheduled for the Topic D quiz on Thursday.  Here is the Topic D Study Guide.  I will also put it on Google Classroom for the students to complete.  This may change depending on what the subs were able to get finished.

Math Test, Logo Contest Vote, Volunteers needed

Math Test Monday – Mid-module assessment make sure your student understands all parts of the study guide.   You can find the study guide in the previous post if you wish to review with your student.

Outdoor Adventure Center – Friday, March 1st. Permission slips were due on Friday.  If you have not turned them in make sure that you turn them in on Monday.   Students will each lunch before we leave at 10:45, please pack a snack to eat when we return to school around 2 PM.  I could use a few more chaperones.  We will be going to the book swap when we return from our trip.

PTA News – Box Tops & Book Swap

Box Tops – During the last week of February, the PTA will be collecting Box Tops!  Send in your box tops in a sealed Ziploc bag with your child’s grade on it.  The class with the largest donation will earn a pizza lunch party!

Book Swap – To prepare for March Reading Month, we will be hosting a Book Swap on March 1st!  During the last week of February, students will be asked to send in gently used books to donate to the swap.  PTA members will set up a one-day-only library in Room 104, and on Friday March 1st, each class will be invited to come to the swap and fill a bag with “new” used books to bring home!  Any books left over will be donated to the school library, or a charity of choice.

Green Team News – Vote for your favorite logo and Volunteers Needed

Wayne County Green School Logo Contest – The Green Team is participating in this contest.  Click on the this link to vote for your top 3 logo designs.  Vote Here   There is also a QR code to scan and vote on the Green Team bulletin board at school.   Please vote before 2/27/19.

Monarch Butterfly Garden and Waystation – we are continuing to make plans for our butterfly way station and garden.  Weather permitting we would love to break ground on Earth Day.  I need so parent volunteers that are good at gardening to help in planning, fundraising, buying or finding discounted or donations for plants, clearing the land to plant, and planting.  If you are interested in helping please let me know.   The girl scouts are joining us at our March 5th meeting to have a planning meeting for the garden.  It would be helpful to have any parent volunteers at that meeting.  I cannot do this big project alone, if I don’t get any helpers I will cancel the garden and maybe try again another year. Science Quiz tomorrow – there are activities on Google Classroom to help you study.

Field Trip slip – due by Friday

Lego Club Session 2 begins on Friday after school the following students are signed up: Julia, Mohamed, Ahmad B, and Addie.  Dates are 2/22, 3/1, 3/8, 3/15.

Brain Stormers Assembly – tomorrow at 9 AM.  I need to be at a Science Leader’s meeting in the AM so if you get any good please share them on Class Dojo or share with me and I’ll share them.

Teacher of the Year Nominations – Dearborn Public Schools is proud to again be working with the Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce for the 2019 Alberta Muirhead Teacher of the Year awards.  Students can nomination their favorite teacher by March 8 to receive this special recognition.   Click here to go the the DPS website and fill out the form online for your favorite teacher.

Class News

Valentines Treats – Thank you to everyone for all the wonderful Valentines cards, treats and presents!  You are all so sweet and generous!  I hope you have a wonderful long weekend with your students.  I look forward to seeing everyone again.

WIDA testing – will continue this week.  Please make sure your students are well rested and fed each morning.

Brainstormers Assembly – Wednesday at 9 AM

Outdoor Adventure Center field trip on March 1st.  This a wonderful facility that I had opportunity to visit this summer.  It is all indoors!  We will be taking a bus.  The permission slip will come home very soon, chaperones are needed.

Book orders are due – please make sure you order online or turn in the paper by tomorrow 2/20.

Class News

Topic B Math Quiz postponed – Due to the Ice day and WIDA testing.  We should be able to have the test next Wednesday or Thursday after we finish Topic B.  Here is a copy of the M3 Topic B Study Guide.  However, students will not have covered all the material until next week.

Valentine’s Day – Students may bring in cards and treats if they wish.  Remember to include everyone.  See previous post for names of students to put on the cards.

Mid-winter break – 2/14 will be a half day dismissal at 11:45.  School resumes on Tuesday. 2/19

Star of the Week – will still be Adam since it is a short week and he didn’t get a full week.

Box tops due soon – there will be a pizza party for the class with the most tops.  You can also earn point on Box.com
