Welcome Back

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday vacation! I am excited to see everyone and hear all the news I’ve missed these past two weeks. I hope everyone was safe and healthy. If you were exposed to COVID over break or you are not feeling well PLEASE STAY HOME. Please remember, if you need to say home, please email or message me on Class Dojo and I can turn on Zoom to help them keep up with the class while at home.

A couple of reminders before tomorrow:

  • Bring boots, snow pants, gloves and a hat to go outside if the temperature is above 20 degrees, we will be going outside to play and for fresh air.
  • Bring a couple of masks because sometimes masks need to be changed through the day for various reasons and it’s good to have a spare mask when needed.
  • As you may be aware, Covid cases are continuing to spread at a high rate throughout the nation. As we return it is very important that we closely monitor our staff and students and that we are following our mitigation plans. Please help us keep our students healthy and in school by doing the following:
  • If your child or anyone in your household has been exposed over the Holiday Break to Covid, please keep your child home from school and contact the school office for further guidance.
  • If your child or anyone in your household has any symptoms of illness or has tested positive for covid, please keep your child home from school and contact the school office for further guidance.
  • If your child or anyone in your household is unable to pass the Daily District Screener, please keep your child home from school and contact the school office for further guidance.
  • If your child or anyone in your household has a covid test result that is pending-either rapid or PCR, please keep your child home from school and contact the school office for further guidance.

We need every individual to follow this advisory message in order for us to help mitigate the spread of Covid-19 within our school community.

Holiday presents – Speaking of holiday presents I wanted to let you know that I never expect any gifts from anyone, but everyone has always been very generous in the past around the holidays.  I know this has been a rough year for a lot of families.  If you do choose to send a gift, I need to let you know I have lost almost 50 lbs in the last 3 years, I am working hard to keep it off and trying to lose some more,  so please do not send any food or candy gifts this year.  I also have very sensitive skin and can’t use regular soaps, perfumes and lotions.  I love to get things for the classroom like office supplies (sheet protectors, card stock, markers, paper)  or things for the students like prizes for the prize box or contests, Legos, educational games, science activities, or magnets.  I also enjoy gift cards to Amazon, Target, Kroger or any gas station.  Thanks for your understanding!  Again I’m not expecting anything.

Busy Schedule this week!!!

I will need 2 volunteers to help clean up and 2 to help set up. Each child can bring 1 adult to help them if the wish. We have almost everything but we still need help to clean up. Winter Guidelines

Dear Parent & Guardians,

Now that cold and snowy weather is here, it’s important for students to dress appropriately for the conditions. Students need to wear a winter jacket to school and also bring a hat and gloves. When snow is on the ground, students need to bring boots and snow pants. If the temperature is 20 degrees or warmer, students will still be going outside for recess. A copy of our Winter Guidelines for student dress is outlined below.

Winter Guidelines for Outdoor Recess

Students go outside for recess two times a day, even during the winter months. We use the following guidelines to determine when it is safe for students to be outside. To make this determination, we use the “feels like” temperature (wind chill) as reported by the National Weather Service. Please make sure your child is prepared with the necessary outerwear.

TEMPERATURE GUIDELINES:

  • Below 20 degrees, we do not go outside
  • 20 degrees or higher, we go outside

Clothing

During the months of December through March, students should bring boots every day as there are many areas on the playground that can get quite snowy and/or muddy. Labeling items with your child’s first and last name can help us to return any lost items. We expect that students will wear the following winter gear when heading outside for recess.

CLOTHING GUIDELINES:

  • 50-60 degrees: Long sleeves
  • 40-50 degrees: Jacket or sweatshirt or coat
  • 30-40 degrees: Winter jacket, hat and mittens/gloves and covered legs (i.e tights, jeans, pants)
  • Below 30 and if snowy: Full set of snow gear to play in the snow (winter jacket, snow pants, hat, mittens, and boots)
  • December – March: Bring boots and shoes daily

Students who do not wear snow pants and boots will not be able to play in the snow.

Students who do not bring boots will still go outdoors, but are expected to stay on the sidewalk.

Thank you for helping to make sure your student is prepared for the Michigan Winter!
