Weekly News

Hassan will be the Star of the week starting Monday 4/10. He will make his poster about his life, be our line leader, bring sharing, his favorite book and his letter from his parents about what makes him special. It is best to spread out these activities over the week.

Penpal Update – Each child got to meet their penpal this week in a face to face interview over a video call. We have had a lot of fun comparing climates and have found out that 60 degrees feels very different to those who live in FL and think that is freezing and time for a coat, hat and mittens and those in MI who are ready for shorts and t-shirts at 60 degrees. Both groups of kids have been asking to share their personal information with their new friends like gaming ids, emails and maybe even phone numbers. We will be sending home a permission slip this week. Please let us know if you would be willing for them to have contact with their new friends outside of school. Our pen pals school year ends next month, it would be wonderful if they have formed a lasting friendship with someone in another state!

Science Fair  Question due Friday 4/14 – There was a conflict with our Science Fair date. PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGES IN DATES! We started learning about the Scientific Process in preparation for our Science Fair on May 19th. Each child will create a science experiment and follow the scientific process, they will display the results of their experiment at the science fair. Students have been given two packets, a colorful one to write the vocabulary and a white one to complete to prepare for their project. You will be helping your child to pick a question. Please remember that the question they pick for their project must be able to do all 6 parts of the whole scientific process: Purpose/question, Research, Hypothesis, Experiment, Analysis, and Conclusion. Science Fair Folder with all the information needed for the project.

Spring Testing – We will begin testing soon after break. Students should continue to try to complete as many skills as they can in IXL. There is also a MSTEP practice website, they can use this to practice the interface and see the types of questions they will see.

M-STEP – Testing window opens up on April 10th-May 5th – I don’t have the exact dates of testing yet. But I highly advise that students are not fasting while they are trying to complete their spring testing. This could greatly affect their ability to do well on the test.

NWEA testing window is May 28th – June 15th.

Teacher Cadet – Our teacher cadet Noor finished her time with us on Thursday before break and we will now have time with her twin sister Malak. The children enjoyed working Noor and I’m sure Malak will be equally delightful.
