Both Polster and Keebler’s class will have a Science Quiz on Thursday – Here is the Quizlet to study – https://quizlet.com/64757291/light-flash-cards/

We will also take a quiz on this website: https://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/scienceclips/ages/10_11/see_things_fs.shtml

Missing Assignments – To help the students keep up to date on their work I will have them write down an assignment on their Missing Assignment paper – this will be kept in their Homework Folder (Please don’t remove it) – Please check it each night.  If they don’t bring the missing work back the next day they will miss their recess to complete it.  They will be excused from this if they are sick.

Animal sound Reports

The Animal Sound Reports are graded – grades and comments are posted on Parent Connect.  Several students forgot to include the sound clips and resources for the assignment.  These are important parts of the assignment and are worth 5 points each.  If these were not included in your child’s assignment please email them to me or re-post your assignment with them included and the points will be returned to your grade.   I am still missing assignments from number 12, 17 and 20 from Ms. Polster’s class.

Parent Connect – The link I created on the blog to access Parent Connect does not work.  This is a secure website and the don’t allow creating short cuts to the site.  Please access it by going to https://dearbornschools.org/parents   there is a button call Parent Connect on the left side of the page.

Parent Connect – PLEASE READ

PLEASE START USING PARENT CONNECT- It will help you help your child be successful in school.

To make it easier to access Parent Connect, I have added a link on my blog.  There is a tab on the right side of the Blog at the top that says Parent Connect, click there and there is a link directly to Parent Connect.  If you don’t remember your student PIN, I can email it to you.

Hopefully, you know by now that a check in the  upper right corner of the paper means that I have recorded the grade.

Since we are piloting this program we are still working out some of the glitches.  Several parents have told me that they have gotten back papers with a check in the  upper right corner but Parent Connect says that it was not turned in.    I am not sure why this is happening.  If you check your Parent Connect and you know your student has completed a work but it is not shown as recorded please return the paper with a note or send me an email that the assignment needs to be recorded again.  Either there is a glitch in the computer program or I didn’t hit the submit button after recording the paper.  It would be wise to check your child’s Parent Connect this weekend to make sure all the work is complete and recorded.

The Marking Period ends on Thursday, 1/22 and all incomplete assignments will be recorded as zeros (0) after that date.  If there are many 0s it will significantly reduce their grade.  I need your help as parents help your children understand the importance of completing their assignments in a timely matter and the importance of getting good grades.  Please take an active role in praising your children for their good grades and encouraging them to complete their work neatly, completely and on time.

I am going to start taking 1 point away each day for work that is turned in late.  They will have extra time if they are sick of course.  I am also taking 1 point away if they do not put their name on their paper.

We all want our students to establish good study habits that will serve them well through the rest of their schooling.  Thank you for your support in helping your child establish the habits needed to do well in school and in the rest of their life.

Missing assignments – Report cards grades are due on January 22 and I would like to make sure that everyone has all their assignments up-to-date before the end of the marking period.  Please check your student’s Parent Connect account, print any missing assignments and turn them in this week.  This will ensure that I can get everything graded and recorded for this marking period grades.  You should be checking Parent Connect at the minimum once a week.  Thanks!

Science test Polster– Since we didn’t have school on Thursday the Science test for Mrs. Polster’s class is rescheduled for Tuesday, January 13th.  Please use the following Quizlet to study for the test.  They will not see the pictures on the test so it would be a good idea to do a practice test without pictures.

Green Team

Reminder – We will be meeting on Tuesday, January 6th, 2015 after school until 4:30.   We will be creating a Green Team bulletin board.  Please have a nice copy of their green article ready to be put up on the bulletin board.

Endangered Animal – We will be ordering our endangered animal soon. We had planned to help the dolphin and the cheetah for $25 each. However, they no longer send the stuffed animal for a $25 donation. You must send $55 to save one animal and also get a stuffed animal. So we need to decide if we would like to help 1 animal and get the stuffed animal or help two animals and not get the stuffed animal.  Below is a link to vote for your favorite option.

Class News and Pictures

Thank you – I wanted to thank everyone for all the wonderful presents for the classroom and for myself.  You have all been so generous and kind this year.  This is a truly amazing group of students and parents.  I am having a wonderful year.  I hope everyone has a restful and enjoyable holiday break.

Gingerbread House pictures –  Thank you to all the parents that donated items and volunteered their time to help out with this event.  I think everyone had a good time.  I have uploaded the pictures I took from the Gingerbread house making party.  If anyone else has pictures to share from that day or the Holiday concert please feel free to add them to the site so everyone can see.

January reading log – My printer has not been working so I was unable to send home the January Reading Log.  Here is a copy of it to print at home.  There is a front and a back side, they are on two separate sheets.   Don’t forget to return your December reading logs on Monday, January 5th.

Reading Log Strategies

Animal Sound Project –  Please have your student spend some time on their animal sound project over the holiday.  Please have them share their progress with me at keeblek@dearbornschools.org.  Here is the assignment sheet again:  Animal Sound Research Project

Book Room Project – We are working on getting our book room and science materials organized and we could use some parent helpers.  If you have some extra time and would be willing to help please let me know.  There are some things that could be done at home but most of it needs to be done at school.

3rd Grade Math Test – Everyone should have received their student’s Unit 4 math test.  Please sign and return it so I know that you have seen it.  There are a few students that will be doing a retake on this test on Monday, January 5th.  This test is a test on their abilities to use their multiplication fact families.  If they don’t know their multiplication facts yet this will be a difficult test for them.  It is VERY important that your student memorize their facts.  We work on these in school but it is necessary that they spent time on these at home in order for them to be memorized.  The memorization of these facts is something that will benefit them for the rest of their schooling and the rest of their lives.   PLEASE take the time to help your child memorize their facts!   V-Math is a great tool to practice their facts in the game center.  Or there are lots of games online to practice.  Here are a couple:

Star of the Week next week (January 5) – Hani

Star of the Weekstar

Every student will have their turn to be the Star of the Week.  This a week where your child will get special privilege and have the chance for us to get to know more about them and let them really “shine!”.  Below telling when each child will have their turn:

Star-of-the-Week-Letter List of Order 2014-15

While your child is the Star, each day of the week will consist of an exciting event or activity to honor him or her and to help us get to know our special classmate.

Monday: Sharing Sack and Poster of pictures: Please help your child collect special items from home with which to fill a small bag (the “sharing sack”), and send it back to school with your child on Monday to share with his or her classmates. Try to encourage your child to choose items that have some sort of meaning rather than just a collection of toys. Also, please have your child decorate a poster board with pictures of him or herself from babyhood to the present. If you did a poster last year, you may use the same one, and add new pictures if you’d like. We’ll display the poster in a place of honor on our class bulletin board.

*Tuesday: Favorite Book: Your star student brings one of his or her favorite picture books to read to the class (or have the teacher read to the class) at our class meeting.

*Wednesday: Parent Letter: Parents, you will write a letter to the class telling us how special your child is to you. Send the letter in a sealed envelope to school with your child, and I will read the letter to the class at class meeting. The content of the letter is up to you, but you may want to choose from one of the following ideas: describe special or funny stories about your child for the class to hear, write a silly or serious poem about your child, tell us some neat things we may not know about your child, send silly or special pictures with a letter describing the pictures, or write a short story with your child as the main character. You may also send a special video for the class to watch if you choose. (Sometimes parents have taped messages or choose to send in a funny baby video for the class to see.)

*Thursday: Lunch Buddy:If possible, join your child in the cafeteria for a special lunch on this day. You may also choose to invite a sibling or a favorite relative to be your child’s lunch buddy. You can have the buddy be a surprise or let your child know ahead of time. If you are unable to make it during our lunch period (11:15 – 11:45), please let me know and I will plan a special lunch for your child instead. You can bring lunch from a favorite restaurant to the cafeteria, or you can order lunch at school. Please let me know ahead of time if you are planning to order a school lunch so that I can place your order.

Friday: Star Friends: Your star student will be presented with a friendship poster created by his or her classmates. The poster will include the Star’s picture, surrounded by compliments written by his or her classmates.

*The events planned for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday can be swapped in order to accommodate your personal schedule if you are planning to be a lunch buddy during the week.

Email me if you have further questions.
