Spelling Bee – The district spelling bee will be on Monday, February 25th at Fordson High School. Howe School is being represented by Malak in 3rd at 5 PM, Amir Y in 4th at 6:15 and Layla in 5th at 7:30. Come out and cheer them on!

Millage Message is to once again let everyone know that the Operational Millage Renewal is NOT AN INCREASE.

In fact, the cap on this tax is dropping from 6.17 mills to 4 mills. That’s a 2.17 mill DECREASE in the cap amount.

That means that up to this point the District could assess up to 6.17 mills but if the millage is renewed the District can only assess up to 4 mills. That is a decrease in the cap amount.

How much is the District currently assessing?  2.05 mills.

The amount that the District can assess is based on a State formula and not determined by the District. It is tied to enrollment and the overall property value in the District.  If State funding were to continue to increase the homeowner part of this millage could drop to 0.

The larger funding source for the Operational Millage Renewal is the 18 mills that are assessed on businesses. This too is not an increase, only a renewal of what has been paid by businesses since 1994 when the State changed how schools are funded. This is not unique to Dearborn as all school districts in the state have this 18 mill tax on business. If this is not renewed the amount of funding the District receives from the State would decrease and Dearborn would become one of the lowest funded districts in the State.

If anyone tells you that the Operating Millage Renewal is an increase they are not sharing accurate information or do not understand how this millage renewal works.  Please refer them to https://dearbornschools.org/operating-millage-renewal/  for accurate information.

Have a wonderful day and please make sure to vote now or vote on February 27th.

Integrity can be hard… Especially at school. Students nowadays have lots of pressure to perform perfectly on tests, not get in
trouble, and have lots of friends. But what happens when the truth comes into question and they have to make some hard decisions that feel uncomfortable? Although they’re in elementary school we can be seen working on Integrity daily through the simplest things. Here is our Parent Letter about Integrity.

Art Club and Trait of the Month

The trait of the month is Optimism. Here is a parent letter.

Here is a letter from Mrs. Hmayed about Art Club

Good morning everyone!

I’m back to school from a long and relaxing maternity leave, and more excited than ever to be back at work with all my students! I would first like to say that my family and I appreciate everyone’s kind words and gifts being sent for our baby boy, and we all sincerely hope you had a wonderful winter break!

Starting on Friday, February 2nd, I will be hosting Art Club for another year! This upcoming week I will be sending home information,  permission slips/applications for the Art Club. I will explain to all grades their expectations for becoming a member, but I kindly ask that you would please review this with your children at home as well.

I’ve decided to offer Art Club to all grades K-5 this year. I am trying to accept as many students as possible! In order for me to do that, I’ll need your help! Coming soon, I will create a signup sheet for Art Club parent volunteers. We will meet once a week on Friday’s from 4-6pm.

We have some amazing big projects coming up and we can use all the help we can get.

If you have any questions or concerns, as always, please do not hesitate to contact me, and reach out!
