NWEA testing

on September 2, 2019

I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend. We had a great first week. We are back in the swing of things. Here is what is happening this week.

NWEA testing – begins tomorrow. We have 3 tests to take in 3rd grade. Math, Language and Reading. We are no longer taking the Science test starting this fall because the NWEA test doesn’t align well with our science standards. Please make sure your child has a good, high protein, low sugar breakfast and gets plenty of rest tonight (according to the Mayo Clinic elementary students should get between 9 and 11 hours of sleep each night for to be successful). We will take the test on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning and do make ups on Friday.

Butterflies – we will begin studying the butterfly life cycle this week. I am bringing in Monarch caterpillars for us to watch the metamorphosis, when they make their change we will be releasing them in our new butterfly garden. These butterflies will make the long migration to Mexico for the winter and their children return in the spring.

Open House – This Wednesday, September 4th is our Open House. We will meet in the classroom from 6 – 7 PM. At 7 PM there is a PTA meeting. There will be someone on hand to answer questions about the new BRICS Bond we are voting on in November. Here is a link to more information about the BRICS Bond.

Homework – we have started our math homework, as part of their math homework they should practice their multiplication facts each night, these must be memorized in 3rd grade. Student should have math homework most nights. Students will also be expected to study their spelling words for a test each Friday. We will be doing spelling activities in class, but students should also review the words at home. We will start spelling next week, since we will be testing this week. Writing homework – students should write in a journal during the week and will turn this in once a week on Mondays.
