Weekly Update

Star of the Week will be Ali S. starting 3/21

Native American Research Project – We have been working on our research reports for 2 weeks now. Here is a link to the Native American Schoology Folder with all the information about the project. It includes the papers that were sent home on March 7th, student resources and everything else that you need to know about the project. Please make sure that your child is doing his/her own work. It needs to sound like it was written by a 3rd grader and be in his/her own words and NOT PLAGIARIZED (or copied) from an online resources. Also your child will be presenting this project and will need to be able to say all the words.

3/18 Notes due – Students should have finished up their notes document and submitted it for a grade.

3/22 Rough draft due – They need to complete their rough draft by Tuesday

3/24 Final draft due – They will need to finish their final draft by Thursday.

4/4 – Whole project due – Trifold poster board, Native American 3D house

4/8 – Native American and Science Fair at 3:15 – Students will be presenting their projects.

Cardboard for presentation board – If for some reason you are not able to get your students a cardboard tri-fold presentation board, please send me a message. I have a large cardboard box that I am going to cut apart and we could make 2 poster boards out of it. If you would like one let me know.

Reading Logs – This is the final week of March is Reading month and one more chance to earn prizes and a brick on the Yellow Brick Road. Please make sure your student returns his/her completed reading log . We will be watching The Wizard of Movie at the end of the week.

Spring Break – starts March 25th at the end of the day and school will resume on April 4th.

Scholastic Book Fair – Starts on Wednesday 3/23 with a preview day, students will bring home their book choices. Send in money on Thursday 3/24. Friday is make-up day for students who miss Thursday. Volunteers are still needed, especially on Thursday to help the students purchase their books.

Field Trip to Cranbrook Institute of Science – We have an exciting trip planned to the museum on April 27th. We will be riding in a school bus. We will have a fun live presentation about Force and Motion, seeing Native American exhibits and seeing the special traveling exhibit called Space: A Journey To Our Future. Chaperones are needed and I will be sending out a permission slip closer to the trip. Make sure you have your volunteer forms completed in the office if you wish to attend. It takes time to do the background checks to get approved to go.

Cranbrook COVID Safety Protocols are as follows:

  • Face coverings are recommended for all guests aged three and older for the duration of their visit.
  • We encourage children under age three, who are not wearing a face covering, remain in a stroller or carrier for the duration of their visit.
  • We encourage guests to be respectful of the other people around them and be mindful of each other’s space.
  • Hand sanitizing stations are available at the museum entrance and high-contact areas.

Academic – This week in ELA we will be finishing up reading the Wizard of Oz and answering the comprehension questions, completing unfinished work, completing our research papers. There will be no new spelling words, pamphlet or spelling test this week. We will continue learning about Native Americans in History and Fractions in math.

Marking Period End on Friday – All Assignments are due by Wednesday, 3/23. If there is not a check or a grade on the paper, then I have not seen it and it needs to be turned in to be graded.
