New easier ways to get in our Google Meet video chats – Google classroom has added a new way to easily allow us to have our meeting without having to share or type in codes all the time. There is now a link at the top of Google Classroom in the Stream and in the Classwork section. Just click on the link to join. This link will only work when I am in the meeting, so if it tells you the code doesn’t work it means I haven’t arrived yet. In the picture below your can see the little camera with the word Meet near the top of the page under the word Classwork. How do I get to a Google Meet from Google Classroom video?
Regular meetings – Speaking of meetings, we will now be meeting with every student twice a week at regular times. Please make sure you are arriving at your meeting on time. I will be meeting in reading groups this week and the groups will be names by the reading group color. If your time doesn’t work for your family please let me know and we can work to find a new time together. We are sharing times school wide so that we don’t have 2 students meeting at the same time as a sibling if they need to use the same computer. Here is a link to this week’s schedule to meet. If there are no problems it will stay the same.
Office hours – I will now have office hours, where I will be able to answer questions for parents and students. They are listed above in the schedule. But I will also be available at other times during the day, if you need me you can send a Class Dojo message, if I’m not busy, we can message about the question or do a video chat. Moms, if you have a questions but don’t want to be seen on camera you can have your student turn off the camera so that we can speak without the visual. I AM HERE TO HELP IF YOU NEED ME JUST ASK. I know these are stressful times and I am working to make it easier for your students.
This week’s work – can still be found on the 3 MORE weeks of work at home paper here. Please do not print this for your child. I will be updating this each day as I create new video lesson for your students. This can also be found in iLearn in the Clever section at the top.
Grading – we have been told that we are allowed to start grading work again. So you will start to see grades showing up in Parent Connect again. Please remind your student to complete their work each day. If there is anyone in the home that is sick, or your student is having trouble with the work amount or the ability to do the work for any reason, please let know right away and we can work together to fix the problem.
New iLearn Classes – Math and Science – here is the course code to join my new math class: kuwebu. Science class code is: zrpfdv Type the codes in the enrollment box in iLearn. I want you to be able to find all assignments in one place. I will be adding videos to go with the lessons. You can get to everything from iLearn now.
Star of the Week – Siham is our new star of the week this week. She will be sharing all the things we shared when we could meet as a classroom but now it is all virtual. I have added her Virtual Poster to Class Dojo. Here are the changes: instead of making a poster of pictures about your life, please make us a Google slide presentation that I can share with the class. Insead of bringing in show and tell, please make us a video to share your show and tell. You can also make a video to share your favorite book. Please have your parents write us a letter telling us what makes you so wonderful and special to them. Next week’s Star of the Week will be Jad. He will do all the same things starting on 4/27. 5/4 – Layla will be Star of the week, 5/11 – Maha will be Star of the Week, 5/18 – Hussein will be Star of the week.
Questions – If you have any questions or need anything please let me know. I am happy to help. keeblek@dearbornschools.org

DETROIT SYMPHONY ORCHESTRAVIRTUAL SIDE-BY-SIDE
As another fun and meaningful way to bring our community together with music, DSO musicians have designed a project called the Virtual Side-by-Side.
From now until April 24th, we will be creating a virtual ensemble of musicians near and far, for all ages and skill levels! We’re using an arrangement of Dvořák’s famous “Goin’ Home” melody from his “New World” Symphony, put together by composer and DSO cellist Jeremy Crosmer.
HERE’S HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
• Check out DSO Principal Clarinet Ralph Skiano’s video outlining the project, with a preview of the piece (above).
• Click here to find and download the part for your instrument.
• Record a video of yourself playing along with our musicians using this video. Remember to use headphones!
• Upload your video here. Be sure to submit your video by April 24th!
• Keep watching our social media channels as this project gets underway! We’ll be sending out updates and eventually publish a video featuring all our participants.
Let’s stay safe, stay healthy, and #KeepTheMusicPlaying.
