Need for Technology

If you are in need of technology at home over the next few weeks, please let me know. The district is working on loaning Chromebooks to students that do not have computers at home. You can send me a message through Class Dojo or email me at shenew@dearbornschools.org .

Extra Credit work

If your child is bored, or they are driving you crazy… you can let them go onto Khan Academy or MobyMax for additional work/practice. Both of these websites can be accessed through Clever.

I have assigned different topics on MobyMax that correlate with what we’ve been learning in class for Math, Reading Skills Literature, Reading Skills Informational, Language, Science, and Social Studies.

Khan Academy is for students to explore content on their own. I have not assigned any lessons at this time.

Again, this is optional, but is very helpful in keeping your student on track during the school shut down:)

Update on daily work

Great job to those students who have completed their daily work for today. Students should have gone onto iReady for 30 minutes and should have completed 1 lesson on Zearn today. Students should be doing the same requirements everyday Monday-Friday.

There is also an assignment for Reading Workbook that has been uploaded into Google Classroom. Students do NOT need their Reading Workbook. I have uploaded a digital copy for students to read. Each day they are to read an assignment but do NOT need to do any writing. The only writing is creating a Google Doc to link on Friday that is a Short Response writing question.

There are also 2 ReadWorks assignments that students should be working on throughout the week. One is a Science article titled “What is a Volcano?” and one is a Social Studies article titled “American Government – Preamble to the United States Constitution”. Students should read and listen to both articles and answer the attached questions. There are also some students that need to complete their ReadWorks assignments that were supposed to have been completed in class last week.

I will be checking students’ time on iReady everyday and lessons completed on Zearn everyday. Please make sure your child is completing assignments at home. Thank you for all of your help during this difficult time!

Work for Week of March 16-20

Please have students go onto Google Classroom. I have posted a weekly assignment from their Reading Workbook. Students do NOT need the actual workbook, I have uploaded a digital copy for them. Each day they are to read 2 pages and think about the concept being taught. They do NOT need to write anything down. On Friday they should complete a Google Doc to answer the short response.

I have also assigned 2 ReadWorks assignments for the week. One is a science text about volcanoes and one is a Social Studies text about the Preamble of the Constitution. Students should also make sure they are caught up on all previous ReadWorks assignments.

Students should continue on their Reading Bag assignments. This can count as their reading for 30 minutes each day. If a student left their Reading Bag at school, then read a book of your choice for 30 minutes. Several students in the pink, red, orange, yellow, and green groups still have not completed and turned in their Google Slideshow from their previous reading book. Please make sure this is turned in as soon as possible since most were due the end of February.

Students should be going into iReady at home for 30 minutes every day. I will be keeping track to make are students have a total of 150 minutes on iReady for the week.

For math, students should be completing 1 entire lesson on Zearn each day. This should take approximately 30 minutes. I will be printing a weekly report to make sure students are completing their lessons.

Thank you for working with your child at home. It is important to keep up with a routine, so setting up a daily schedule for your child is a good suggestion. Remember to check Google Classroom every week as I will be grading assignments and adding new ones.

Directions for work at home over the next 3 weeks

I want to thank all of the families that have sent prayers and condolences my way for the loss of my father.

Due to the closure of school over the next 3 weeks, students are expected to complete assignments at home. Please make sure you are currently signed up for my blog as this is where I will be explaining assignments. My blog address is iblog.dearbornschools.org/shenew

Starting Monday, students should be reading 15-20 minutes every day. Students should go onto iReady for at least 30 minutes every day. Students should complete one lesson on Zearn every day. There will be assignments added in Google Classroom each week for students to complete at home.

Several students are already missing assignments in Google Classroom. Talk to your child to make sure they have turned in the Google Slideshow from their last Reading Group book (most were due the end of February). This is only for the pink, red, orange, yellow, and green groups.

Also, students need to complete the ReadWorks assignments and questions that were posted in Google Classroom. There are several texts that should have been completed already.

I will be keeping in contact with families through my blog, Google Classroom, and Class Dojo. Please take the time to work with your children at home in a safe and healthy environment. We will get through this together!

Dear Snow Families,

The Michigan Department of Education MDE has recently given Snow a school grade of letter “A”!  Our students are performing and we want to continue to soar! During this time of shut down, we are going to work hard to continue student learning.  We are asking all Snow families to do the following:

-iReady for a minimum of 2 hours per week.

-Read “Good fit” books. (K-2) 20 min daily, (3-5) 30-45  min daily.

-At least 1 lesson per day on Zearn.

-4th and 5th grade Khan Academy for 20 minutes daily.

-Grades 2-5 will receive assignments via Google Classroom.

There will be additional assignments based on classrooms/grades. Teachers and support staff will be monitoring student learning.

Please check your emails regularly! This will be the main method of communication between school and home. Phone calls will be made as necessary.

Due to the fact that we are moving to online learning for this period of shut down, please limit recreational screen time! (Social media, YouTube, video games, television, etc…)
