The Snow Summer Slide Challenge!!

Dear Snow Families,

According to Johns Hopkins University, the effects of summer learning loss (summer slide) can result in nearly a three-month loss in grade-level equivalency in math and a two-month loss in reading.

Your child had a great school year and has learned so much!  We do not want the summer slide to occur as we want your child to start off strong next year!  Reading and math skills can be practiced on MobyMax.

Mrs. Bush will monitor student work and post the leaders on the Snow School blog.  MobyMax offers many areas of learning so it is important that your child and you are aware of their target areas listed above.

The Snow Summer Slide Challenge will begin June 15 and run through September 8, 2018.  Please inform your students to join Ms.Bush’s blog to see results over the summer! There will be a celebration the week of September 10th for the top students.

Go Snow students!

PTA Announcement!

Hello Snow Parents and Staff!!
We are extremely excited to be on the PTA this coming year, and we want to hear from you!! Attached is a link to a 10-question survey that we are asking everyone to fill out. Our hope is that with your insight we can make the 2018-2019 school year the best ever!  Please take the 5 minutes to fill it out so we can start working towards this goal!
Also please subscribe to our Blog and our Facebook group to get up to date info on events, fundraisers and other great information about our fabulous school!  (For Facebook, you no longer need to be a PTA member.  Just answer a few questions so we can establish your connection to the school.)
We are also looking for a Secretary to join our PTA board for next year, if interested please email Michelle Giles at michellegiles25@gmail.com

Field Day

Hello,

Tomorrow is field day!! We will be outside from 1-3pm. Please have your child bring an extra set of clothing as they may get wet with the activities.

Thank you!

Spelling Week of 5/21/18

Spelling words this week are homophones. Students will need to study these pattern words by writing a definition in their own words today for homework. Tomorrow I will ask them to use the pattern words in a sentence. The reason for this is that when I dictate the spelling words on Thursday, May 24th students will need to pay attention to the context the word is in. If I say, “The sky is not so blue on a rainy day,” they will know to write the spelling word “blue” instead of “blew.” If the student spells a word correctly but is not the correct word for the sentence, it will not count as a point on the spelling test.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Donations Needed

As the End of the School Year Picnic quickly approaches the Snow School PTA is asking for donations of water, juice boxes, cans of pop, napkins, small and large paper plates, foil sheets, ketchup and mustard. These items can be dropped off at school in your child’s classroom or by the PTA closet. We will also need coolers, crock pots, tongs for serving and items for the desert table on the day of the picnic June 8th. Wwe will be setting up all day and available to take any items then. Please label all items that need to be returned.  Thank you for all you do and for helping us make this event a success.

PTA

It has been a tradition that each grade collects donations to go into a classroom raffle basket to be raffled off during the picnic.  Our 4th grade theme this year is “Roblox/Legos”.   We’re asking families to donate items that relate to the theme to be put into our basket.   Please send in any donations so we can start organizing our basket.  Let’s make a great basket to represent Team 4th Grade for the picnic!

Thank you

Field Day!

Parents!  Looking for a little fun on Wednesday, June 8?  Snow School is running their annual Field Day and we need your help!  We are looking for volunteers to run stations from 9-11 and/or 1-3 pm.  Kindergarten through second grade will be in the morning, third grade through fifth grade will be in the afternoon.  It is a fun way to help out and see all the community spirit at Snow Elementary School.  Hope to see you there.

NWEA Reading & Math

Good morning,

We will begin testing today. The window for the reading and math NWEA closes next Thursday, May 24th. I tried to give the students a break as much as possible. We will be doing a mix of small group testing during Daily 5 and whole group testing. We do not have a schedule this time but testing will always be done in the morning and we will not have sessions longer than 30 minutes. It will take us a few days to finish each test, but it is a good idea to ask your child how they are doing. Students may bring in a pillow or cushion to use during testing.

Let me know if you have any questions!!

Happy Mother’s Day

Just a reminder that we will have a class party tomorrow for lunch, we will have pizza. The students worked really hard during M-STEP and deserve it!

We will start NWEA testing these week. I will post a schedule soon.
