We will be exchanging valentines on February 14, so your child may bring in valentines and a small treat to pass around if he/she wishes.

NWEA Family Reports came home Friday, so check your child’s folder if you haven’t already. If you have any questions email me.

Remember to check your child’s planner and folder with your child every night, this develops a habit of keeping on top of assignments, notes, and helps with building responsibility.

At Howe School, we value our families and appreciate involvement in our school community.  Throughout the school year, there are numerous opportunities to volunteer for school events, field trips, and classroom-based activities.  In order to ensure the safety of our school community, all volunteer opportunities should be arranged through the teacher, principal, or through the PTA.  The district has established policies for volunteers which includes signing in at the office and completing the ichat process.

In recent weeks, there have been concerns expressed by several families and staff members regarding parent visitors in the cafeteria during lunch, recess, and during after school clubs.  Please note that all visitations require an invitation or prearrangement with the teacher or principal. Drop-in visits cause unnecessary disruption and can interfere with student socialization. Please contact the office or your child’s teacher if you have questions or would like to volunteer.

he Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Detroit Section is pleased to announce it’s twelfth annual Girls’ Engineering Exploration (GEE) Day on Saturday, March 21, 2020. This year’s event will be held at the Michigan Science Center from 9AM – 4PM. The free seminar, with lunch provided, is a part of SWE’s continuous effort to educate young women about the endless career opportunities that the engineering field has to offer.

In order to make this seminar a success we are asking 4^th, 5^th, and 6^th grade teachers and parents/guardians throughout metro Detroit to pass along the information and document included in this email to girls that they believe display interest and enthusiasm in the STEAM subjects. We are striving to reach out and inspire girls that work hard and have the potential to become future engineers. Included in this email is a flyer (GEE Student Flyer 2020) that discusses the activities to be held at the event for the girls. The program is limited to 125 girls, so please encourage students and parents to respond as soon as possible. 

Teachers and parents are also invited to attend an informational and interactive session at the same time as the student events. They will be provided with resources and opportunities to further engage their child/student in engineering activities. If teachers and/or parents are interested in attending they can register in the same link provided on the flyer. Lunch is provided and seating is limited.

Registration instructions are included on the flyer. The last date to register for the students, teachers, and parents is Monday, March 2, 2020, but seating is limited so please sign up as soon as possible.

Please pass out the GEE Student Flyer 2020 document to the students you suggest.

Reminder: We have 1/2 day this Friday, no school next Monday and another 1/2 day on Tuesday.

We will start NWEA Testing tomorrow, the students will decide what they want to test. Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep, breakfast, and snacks.

Make sure your child has a snack with them everyday. I provide an emergency snack because we all forget sometimes, but the emergency snack is running out on Tuesdays. We get hungry and hangry.

There is a Reading Response log and letter this week.

Library is tomorrow.

Due to unforeseen circumstances with leadership, Lego club session 1 needs to be postponed.  There will be no club meetings today or next week. Lego club session 1 will now begin on January 24th.  PTA will send home new calendar sheets for parent volunteers to sign up. We apologize for the inconvenience.
