Lansing Trip Survey

Dear Parents,
We are planning a trip to Lansing to visit our State Capital building and the Historical museum.  This is an important part of our government curriculum.  The trip will be January 9th from 8:30-4:30.  Please answer this quick 3 question survey so that we can determine how many buses to order for the trip.  Lansing Survey click here  The survey will be available until Sunday, 11/17.  We would like to book the buses on Monday.  The buses are very expensive and do not offer a refund after they are scheduled, so we need accurate information on who will be attending the trip.

Thanks,

Mrs. Keebler, Mrs. Polster and Mrs. Davis

I know it’s a Snow Day but….

IF you have nothing to do, I highly recommend that you:

  • Do two reading passages on Read Theory
  • Work on Zearn Module 3: lessons 1 and 2
  • IXL: anything starred on four different subjects
  • Read a chapter or two
  • Bake something
  • Cook or prepare something in the kitchen
  • Have fun and enjoy your day off from school!
  • 😉

Community Activities

Michigan State offering Girls’ STEM Day

Kindergarten through 4th grade students are invited to participate Girls’ STEM Day, including hands on activities on Nov. 23 from 1-4 p.m.  (Check in 12:30-1 pm). The event will be in the MSU Engineering Building & Anthony Hall.Registration is required, and students must be chaperoned.  Chaperones may bring up to three students.  Registration deadline is November 8 or until maximum capacity is reached. For questions, contact wie-outreach@egr.msu.edu or 517-432-1273.  The Women in Engineering program does not unlawfully discriminate.  All events and programs are open to students of all genders.

This year’s event will kick off with a fundraiser at the Dearborn Ice Skating Center, 14900 Ford Road on Nov. 17. Tickets are $10 each and include skate rentals.  The community, including younger students, is invited to skate from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., and high school students can skate from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. For tickets, contact the high schools, including Ms. Altomonte at Fordson at altomoa@dearbornschools.org, Ms. Rumler at Dearborn High at rumlers@dearbornschools.org, and Ms. Gass at Edsel Ford at gassm1@dearbornschools.org.   See the flyer here.

Empty Bowels Meal

The Dearborn Public Schools Art department is hosting its 28th annual Empty Bowls meal on Monday, November 25, from 4-6:30 p.m. at Park Place Banquet Hall, 23400 Park Street, Dearborn.

For a minimum suggested of $5 donation, guests who attend this family-friendly dinner may select a one-of-a-kind handmade bowl and enjoy a serving of tasty soup and bread. The bowls are made by students in kindergarten through high school who attend Dearborn Public Schools.

Donations will support Gleaners Food Bank and Blessings in a Backpack, local charities that help feed the hungry. Guests can take their bowls home as a reminder of all those who go hungry each day.

“This community service learning project is a win-win-win.  Empty Bowls allows art teachers and their students to create bowls to raise money.  It involves the community, which donates items and attends the event, and it provides more than $3,000 each year to local charities to help those in need.  The Art Department is very proud of the continued success of Empty Bowls,” said Susan Briggs, the District’s Art Resource Teacher.

A variety of soups will be available, including vegetarian and gluten free, at this simple meal of soup and bread to fight hunger. A tin can raffle will also be held.

No reservations are required, but those who arrive early will see all of the unique bowls made and donated by students and teachers in the Dearborn Public Schools.

The annual Empty Bowls event is hosted by the Dearborn Public Schools Art Department and Park Place Banquets & Catering.  Empty Bowls events are held around the world as part of a grassroots movement by artists and craftspeople to care for and feed the hungry in communities.

Snack

Remember to have your child pack a snack everyday, he/she is hungry by the time lunch rolls around at 12:20. I keep emergency packs of pretzels in the class, but once they’re gone for the week, they are gone. 5 students a day are forgetting their snacks, this class seems to like pretzels, so have your child pack pretzels.

Clothing

It’s November and the weather is colder, make sure your child is dressed to go outside. We go outside unless we are told not to or rain. It is more pleasant to be outside if your child has layers: coat, hat, and gloves.

Module 2 Math Test on Wednesday, 11. 6

Have your child go over their review.
