March 25, 2020

I set up a zoom meeting yesterday, I had two students who were able to meet at that time: Ada and Adam (and Adam’s cousin). It was good to catch up and see what they were doing. I am sorry if I missed you!

We will meet again on Friday, check your email for the information, I am thinking morning this time. If you want to contact me, use your school email.

Today is going to be a beautiful March spring day, get outside and play because tomorrow it rains.

I can see some of you are keeping up with each day’s assignments and some of you have been ignoring what was suggested. Please work on each site each day, you have tons of time to play online every day. Don’t forget to read.

If you need more reading material, check out the link below.

Do You Need A Chromebook?

Teachers have provided daily on-line enrichment activities for students to complete while we are out of school. It has been brought to my attention, that we have some students who do not have access to a computer, tablet, or phone device to participate in these activities. With support from Dearborn Schools, we are extending an opportunity for our students with this need to borrow a Chromebook from Howe School until we return from the shutdown.

Chromebooks will be made available for drive-through pick-up on Friday, March 20 from 9:00-11:00 under the Ann Arbor Trail canopy at Howe School.

At this time we can only provide 1 Chromebook per family to be shared by all Howe students in the family.

You will need to have access to wireless internet or a hotspot to use the Chromebook in your home

A parent MUST be present and sign a copy of this form to receive a Chromebook. The form will be provided at pick-up. Please read for more information.

To reserve a Chromebook:

If you would like to borrow a Chromebook, please complete this form. This will help us to facilitate the process and ensure availability. Remember, you will need to have access to wireless internet or a hot spot to use the Chromebook in your household.

If you have questions regarding Chromebook Lending contact Ms. Fournier at fournit@dearbornschools.org.

Also, please subscribe to Sarah Puchala’s blog, our Howe Interventionist, I’ve also added her to our links.

For now, I feel it is  important to keep our kids engaged in learning activities to provide some normalcy to our days. Please follow the daily/weekly schedule or learning activities provided. In addition, students can continue to work on their goal work.

If you have any questions regarding log in information please email me at polstel@dearbornschools.org or on classdojo.

I am here for you and look forward to seeing everyone when we are able to return to our buildings.

Dear Howe Parents,

The March is Reading Month theme this year will be “Books from Around the World”.  Each classroom will choose a book from a country and read it. Classrooms will visit each other to hear other teachers read new stories to them. We will have a map to color for each country visited.  Each room will also decorate their classroom door with the book theme and country. The winner of the door decorating contest will get a party paid for by the PTA. We will also have a Reading Participation Contest too!  Students are expected to:

  • Read 20 minutes each night.
  • Fill out a reading log passport and send the log in each Monday.  The teacher will stamp the reading log. At the end of the month, all students that participated will get a small prize.  They will also get a participation ticket and be entered into a drawing. The Montessori student prizes will be one girl and one boy bike. The participation winner for Center Based will receive an appropriate prize for that specific student.
  • The classroom with the most participation will also earn a party.

Other events happening this month include the Scholastic Book Fair on March 18, 19 and 20, as well as a Book Swap towards the end of the month. More information to come home soon about these.  We will also have an assembly at the end of the month to announce the winner of the bikes, Center Based prize, door decorating contest winner and the class with the most participation.

   Happy Reading,  Howe Staff

We will be having a Parent Meeting this Thursday at 3:00 pm.

Audition materials will be taught at the audition. Students should be prepared to read from the script, sing, and dance.Students do NOT need to have previous experience, only a willingness to commit to working on the show and learn.

Reminders

Mid-Winter Break – 2/15-2/23 – No school

I’m green with envy of all of you who are traveling this coming week. EVERYONE be safe but have fun and relax!

Your child needs to have his/her data by 2/24 for science project, look on science fair page, and use the information there for help.

Check your child’s planner, their homework is written down, and remind them to review their module 3 notes, so they can complete/make corrections on Monday during Math.

Parent Helper Needed – we will be having a door decorating contest for March is Reading month. We have been asked to find a parent helper to create the door decorations based on the classroom book and theme. If you are able to help please let me know right away. We will be decorating the door as soon as we return from break, so it is ready before March 1st. Thanks!
