Kindergarten students are also working on long (ta) and short (ti ti) sounds in music.  This is how we start reading music/rhythms.  Students can practice these rhythms and keeping a steady beat using the following recordings:

Both rhythm and using our singing voices are assessed in music class for a grade.  These grades appear on your child’s grade card.  If you have any questions about our assessments, please see the assessment tab to the right.

4th Grade Recorders

4th graders (and Ms. Logel’s 3rd graders),

Check out the 4th grade tab to the right of this page.  It has all of our recorder songs so that you can listen, practice and play your recorder at home.  By now, we should know how to play B, A and G on recorder.  We will be working on High D and Low E for the next few classes.

Try to practice at home!

5th Grade Recorder Karate

5th graders have completed their Recorder Karate Program with their last song being “Ode to Joy” for their Black Belt on recorder.  We have many great recorder players at Oakman!

We are going to continue playing recorder in class and have just learned how to play “Baby Shark” (see music below).  Students should continue to practice at home as our music in class will become more challenging and students will be asked to improvise and compose their own pieces of music when we come back from break.  Happy practicing!

Congrats to 3rd and 5th Graders!

Congratulations to our Oakman 3rd and 5th graders on a wonderful Winter Concert performance!  All students should be proud of the musicianship they showed on stage.  Congratulations!

Young 5s, Kindergarten and 1st graders will be up next for a performance in March.  Come back in a few weeks for more information about date, time and the words to the music so that students can practice at home.
