The lack of opportunity and employment is a big worry to our current world and future. A deficiency in opportunity is when people who don’t have the chance to perform with the best education. This can lead to a decrease in employment; or a shortage of position in the everyday economy which can lead to a terrible future for the world and our upcoming generations. According to the United Nation Educational Sacrifice and Cultural Organization, “Education is a basic human right. But many children still do not have the opportunity to learn, especially if they live in poverty or are girls.” People like this do not have access to proper education, and will mostly likely have no opportunity to succeed in the present. It’s unnecessary for people like us to be in such places, yet our education is mandatory.
This world comes with great privileges, but with the world this way, we are not taking into account that some people don’t have the same opportunities due to it. According to Telegraph,“ In a globalized world where technology and information are extremely important, those who can’t afford to keep updated and to learn new skills will have no opportunity for advancement.” As stated beforehand by Telegraph, people don’t have access to the basic necessities in the world today. They will not have the proper help they need to succeed nowadays.
Telegraph continues, “Many job opportunities require the employer to have basic computer skills, something that people in poverty have little to no access to. Even if they manage to save money to buy a computer or enroll in training programs, they will have to give up buying other things, maybe basic needs like food or water.” And to no surprise, people who are at the bottom will stay on the bottom; unless they have the opportunity to get out of it. Even getting out of such a situation like these will need a lot of support and help.
The majority of kids in poor countries face barriers when it comes to education. Children might not even have a school in their area to go to, or teachers might not have the proper training needed to educate a child. Children’s families with low income can lead to improper education and unemployment for their children. A college student at University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Amen Aljahmi (20), has supported this, “Parents who already live in places like Africa, work all hours just or scrape a living affects their children’s education. They are exhausted and pay little to no attention to their children’s education”. People now have to worry about not getting enough money to survive, than to be educated so they can succeed. Amen continued “Then, children are poorly-educated and so are likely to turn out like their parents and the children are kept in the cycle of poverty”.
Amen’s statement brings enlightenment on the real world today. Unemployment can have a devastating impact on both an individual and the general economy. But what can little to no education do to the world? The Times UK stated, “ Those with no formal education are 4 times more likely to be unemployed than those with a bachelor’s degree”. This puts our economy at risk for those who can’t afford college or won’t get accepted into a college. And The Bureau of Labor and Statistics had stated: “The unemployment rate for those with less than a high-school diploma is 14.2%.”. This creates a little chance for opportunity and allows for people to stay in the same class. This creates a never-ending circle of poverty for the ones who aren’t born with the same opportunities as us.
People like Um Amjad, an immigrant that came to America in 2004, has experienced this for herself. Um Amjad (32), a Dearborn resident, was asked of what she thought of the employment system here. She says,“ Nowadays, it is hard to get a good job without a high school diploma or a college degree. Especially because college can be so expensive for some. If everyone had a professional education, that would put everyone in a good spot in the economy.”. For those who have a similar experience in Um Amjad, it is likely that they have stayed in the same social class, or even lower.
Um Amjad has witnessed these circumstances because she lived in a warzone. “In the middle east, a lot of kids can’t go to school because it isn’t safe. Kids as young as 10 would work just to help their families”. Many children in places of financial need have to suffer in these conditions in places like Syria, Palestine,Yemen, and other middle eastern countries.
As stated by The Conversation, “Around the world, nearly half the youth are unemployed or underemployed, even more than 120 million youth are still illiterate.” These children who are illiterate live in areas with little to no education. By putting up schools and getting funds to support the schools, we can bring an upbringing in the high school diplomas and college degrees.
Unequivocally, you can see that the direction we are going will be a major downfall. We can be able to stop this, to help out the fellow human race. Reported by the United Nation Educational Sacrifice and Cultural Organization, “ About 263 million children and youth are out of school…This is equivalent to a quarter of the population of Europe. The total includes 61 million children of primary school age, 60 million of lower secondary school age, and includes the first-ever estimate of those of upper secondary school age at 142 million.” With over 250 million children out of school, it gives the potential this world has if people start becoming literate. Helping that many children grow up to get education can be support us. 250 million more educated students that can possibly find a cure to cancer, another planet to inhabit, and even finding a way for people to fly.
