1st, 2nd, 3rd, Hours

Bellwork had students write the equations of quadratics in Vertex Form given the Vertex and another point on the graph.  Students also practiced taking a generic graph and transform it using the values shown in the function rule.    For example:  y = 2f(x-3)+2 means to move the graph 3 units right, 2 units up, and make it twice as tall.

The remainder of the period we began discussing Sec 5-4, factoring quadratics.

Bellwork gave students practice transforming a generic function   y = f(x)  by using its graph and the transformed function y = af(x-h)+k.  Students also practiced graphing quadratics in Vertex Form.

Hwk #16 is due today.

The remainder of the period we continued our discussion on Sec 5-3 by writing equations of quadratics given their graph or the vertex and any other point on the graph.

Hwk #17 was made available to the students.  This hwk will be due on Thursday.       Sec 5-3 Practice Sheet.

Bellwork gave students practice using the graphing calculators to make a scatter plot, find the regression equation that fits the data, and then answers questions using this equation.

The remainder of the period we finished our discussion on Sec 2-4 by discussing the Correlation Coefficient (r) and what it tells us about a graph and the regression equation for the graph.

We also discussed how to make a piecewise function using the graphing calculator.

Hwk #14 will be checked tomorrow to give some students more time.

1st, 2nd, 3rd Hours:

Bellwork reviewed graphing quadratic equations and using a quadratic model of a situation to find the maximum or minimum of the function and when it occurs.

The remainder  of the period we began our discussing on Sec 5-3, Vertex Form for the equation of a quadratic function.

Bellwork reviewed the steps used to make a scatter plot using the graphing calculator and finding the regression equation to model the data (Sec 2-4).  Students were given a sheet of instructions to help them through this process.

The remainder of the period we continued discussing scatter plots and the equations that model them, including performing a Quadratic Regression in the event the scatter plot looks like a curve instead of a line.  We also began discussing what the correlation coefficient(r) tells us.

Hwk #13 is due tomorrow.  Sec 2-4.

Bellwork reviewed graphing parabolas using LOS, Vertex, and a table of values.

The remainder of the period we discussed another technique used to graph parabolas and how to find the Max/Min of a situation that is modeled by a quadratic function.

Bellwork reviewed using the graphing calculators to make a scatter plot and find a regression equation to fit the data.

The remainder of the period we continued discussing scatter plots and regression equations.  Students were also shown how to use a system of equations and matrices to find the equation of a parabola that passes through three points.
