Week of Monday, Oct. 14th

6th Grade Exploring Languages: B day had one day of learning German family body vocabulary last week. This means that they will play Jeopardy on Monday and have their Test on Wednesday, October 16th. I will collect completed German packets on the day of the test. The bottom of page 5 will be empty. Their German & family projects posted on Google Classroom are still due today, Monday, October 14th. I printed instructions for any students who did not have computer access or were having trouble with technology at home. A day will learn about German culture on Tuesday. I explained their German family and body vocabulary projects last Friday instead because it was a half day. On Thursday, they will play Jeopardy. Their projects are due on Thursday as well. The following Monday, October 21st will be their German test. I will collect packets then. Study using Quizlet.com. Remember to study culture in the German packets as well.

7th & 8th Grade Conversational Spanish classes:  Students will continue learning about animals this week. We will also learn to create singular and plural sentences using grammar rules in Spanish. Notes will be written in class and posted on Google Classroom. The unit 2 test is scheduled for Friday, October 18th. These concepts can be studied on Quizlet.com using 2.1, 2.2 & 2.3 flashcards. “Learn” is a great activity to use on Quizlet.com. Students will have a variety of practice activities with partners, group work, & grammar activities.

8th grade Yearlong:  The next quiz (focusing on ser, using negatives, accents, tildes & punctuation) is scheduled for Wednesday, October 16th. Ch. 1 Grammar 2 notes in student notebooks should be studied. These notes are also posted on Google Classroom if they are lost. Two quizlet sets that can be studied are Ch. 1 Subject Pronouns & Ch. 1 Subject Pronouns with verbs. Remind.com messages are sent out about upcoming quizzes. 6th Grade Exploring Languages: B day will learn German culture on Tuesday and play Jeopardy on Thursday. Their test will be the following Monday, October 14th. I will collect completed German packets then. A day will learn German days & months on Monday, colors on Wednesday and culture on Friday. Jeopardy & the test will be the following Tuesday and Thursday. Study using Quizlet.com.

7th & 8th Grade Conversational Spanish classes:  Students will take their unit 1 test today. We will then begin learning about colors and animals this week. Notes that will be written in class and posted on Google Classroom. These concepts can be studied on Quizlet.com using 2.1 & 2.2 flashcards. “Learn” is a great activity to use on Quizlet.com. Students will have a variety of practice activities with partners, group work, & grammar activities.

8th grade Yearlong:  The quiz scheduled for Friday, October 4th was moved to the following Monday, October 7th. It will cover numbers, days, months, & questions. All study items were posted on Google Classroom. Remind.com messages are sent out about upcoming quizzes. We will learn about the Spanish alphabet this week and grammar concepts: ser, using negatives, accents, tildes & punctuation. 6th Grade Exploring Languages: B day will learn German numbers on Monday, days & months on Wednesday, and colors on Friday. Pages 1-4 should be complete by the end of the week. A day will begin their German unit on Tuesday and learn German numbers on Thursday. Pages 1-2 should be complete by the end of the week. Study using Quizlet.com.

7th & 8th Grade Conversational Spanish classes:  Students will to makes objects & people plural in Spanish this week. They will also learn additional questions and answers. Notes that will be written in class and posted on Google Classroom will be 1.1, 1.2 & 1.3. These concepts can also be studied on Quizlet.com. Students will have a variety of practice activities with partners, group work, & grammar activities. We plan on having our next Unit 1 test on Monday, October 7th.

8th grade Yearlong:  The quiz scheduled for Friday, September 27th was moved to the following Monday, September 30th because of technology iLearn complications. Students will still have their chapter 1 vocab 2 test on Friday, October 4th which will cover numbers, days, months, & the alphabet learned this week. 7th & 8th Grade Conversational Spanish classes:  Students will have their first test today, Monday, September, 23rd. We will then learn about additional people and objects in the classroom this week. We will learn questions and answers to additional questions. Students will have a variety of practice activities with partners, group work, & grammar activities.

8th grade Yearlong:  We will learn about pronouns this week and focus on numbers, days, months, & alphabet. Students will take notes and have their first grammar quiz on Friday, September 27th. 8th grade Yearlong:  We will continue to learn more greetings this week and focus on subjects & verbs. Students will take notes and present partner conversations this week. 6th Grade Exploring Languages: Please make sure to have a folder, pencil, red pen & 2 Expo markers for class. Also make sure that the “Remind.com” form has been turned in within Google Classroom. A day will learn about Spanish numbers on Monday, days & months on Wednesday and Colors on Friday. Homework will be to complete one page each day (pages: 2, 3 & 4). B day will learn Spanish days & months on Tuesday as well as Spanish colors on Thursday. Homework will be to complete one page each day (pages: 3 & 4). Study using Quizlet.com this week!

The cartoon project will be due on Tuesday, September 10th. We will also learn about class objects & people this week focusing on definite and indefinite articles. Students will have their first quiz on Tuesday, September 10th. Quizzes will usually be every Friday, but I wanted students to feel comfortable in studying for their first quiz over the weekend. We will learn more greetings this week and work on a cartoon project. Students will also learn about subjects & verbs using grammar lessons this week. 6th Grade Exploring Languages: Please make sure to have a folder, pencil, red pen & 2 Expo markers for class. A day will focus on completing their Google Classroom, Quizlet & iBlog sign in. Students were able to review PBIS strategies today in class as well. They will learn Spanish greetings with their new packets on Thursday. Homework will be to complete the first page at home that day. B day will learn Spanish greetings with their new packets on Wednesday of this week. They will learn Spanish number on Friday. Homework will be to complete pages 1 & 2 on both days.

Witamy! Bienvenidos! Wilkommen! Bienvenue!

Greetings and welcome to Smith’s Foreign Language Blog. During the first week of school, we will be getting to know each other, going over Smith’s PBIS procedures, dress code policy, classroom expectations, and getting our supplies gathered. Learning the curriculum should begin at the end of this week. Please click on the SYLLABI link on the top of the blog to view the classroom supplies needed for each grade level. Students will also be asked to visit Google Classroom after receiving a classroom code to register in order to provide parent contact information for Remind.com, verify that the syllabus as been read, and allowing pictures/videos taken in the classroom. I look forward to getting to know each and every student this year!!!

Last 7 School Days

6th Grade Exploring Languages: B day will learn additional sign language concepts and play ASL Bingo. On Friday, A day will have their end of the year cultural food day. B day will have cultural food day on Wednesday, June 12th. A & B days have field trips scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday of next week. We will create multi-language board games during that time depending on which students will attend first hour Exploring Languages.

7th & 8th Grade Conversational Spanish classes: Students in 6th hour will have cultural food day on Thursday, June 6th during 6th hour. 4th hour will receive their study guides on Thursday and will check their work on Friday. On Friday, 6th hour will receive their study guides and check their work on Monday. Next Tuesday, June 11th will be the day of the final exam. Students will then learn about family and body vocabulary the days following the exam.

8th grade Yearlong: Absent students from last week that did not complete the Spanish final will be working on it this week. 80% is a passing score. Students will be notified this Friday if they move on to Spanish 2 in high school. For our final days of school, students will be learning about the culture of food, the culture of dance, about body vocabulary and about famous historical people in the Spanish-speaking world. The Cedar Point field trip will be next Tuesday. Cultural Food day for 5th hour is Wednesday, June 12th and Cultural Food day for 3rd hour is Thursday June 13th. The school dance will be next Friday, on the last day half day of school.
