He’s Here! :)

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you… Louis Vuitton. 🙂 A male.

I just got home from adventures with my kids, so I’m not sure how long he’s been hanging to dry but he’s not really moving around just yet which is a sign he’s not ready. When he starts to flap his wings a bit I will take him outside and free him!

      I ended up with 9 males and 6 females out of my first batch. Unfortunately 7 of the eggs did not make it to adulthood. It seems like a lot of the people raising Monarchs in our area are having a hard time with unexpected losses… we are thinking that it might be because people are spraying chemicals on their lawns to ward off mosquitoes! Bug repellents harm all bugs regardless of whether they are useful ones or not.

      I have 5 eggs now that I picked up for batch #2 but my family is getting ready to spend a few weeks up north and I know I will end up with dozens of eggs within a week of going up!
