Great news!  The WBPE Drumners have been invited to play at the annual Ethnic Dinner to be held at Miller Elementary School from 6:00pm-7:30pm on February 2, 2012.  All WBPE drummers should meet Ms. Harden in the Music room at 5:30pm for practice.  Drummers are invited to attend the dinner or may be picked up at 6:30pm.

Grade 2 Shines!

Grade 2 Shines!

Students in Grade 2 are learning to play the xylophones and pre-read music notation.  Our students are getting so good at it that they are memorizing phrases and patterns and some are able to conduct/lead the class!   It takes listening skills and patience to know when to move to the next note.  The conductor must listen for each student to play each note and move just at the right pace while they are learning the piece.  Next, they begin to keep a slow, steady tempo that the others must follow.  Great job students!

Kindergarteners play the Orff Xylophones!

Kindergarteners play the Orff Xylophones!

Our Kindergarteners are doing a great job and having lots of fun playing the Orff Xylophones!  They are reading early music notation, getting ready to be great readers of music and books!  There is a strong connection between reading music and reading words and the more they read music the better they will get at reading words and sentences.  Keep up the good work!

WBPE and S.O.U.L. Perform on the same stage!

WBPE and S.O.U.L. Perform on the same stage!

What a great time we had on January 19, 2012 performing with the Singer Of United Lands!  Members of the WBPE had a welcomed suprise when they were asked to perform onstage with the Members of S.O.U.L.  They played a piece that we had just learned called “Afrogroove” and learned a new piece that Virgil (India) taught them.  The members of S.O.U.L. 2012 are: Virgil (India), Zuzanna (Poland) Paola (Bolivia) and Engelhardt (Namibia).  You can learn more about S.O.U.L. by visiting their website:  www.singersofunitedlands.org.

Grade 1 Boomwhacker Experience

Grade 1 Boomwhacker Experience

Our First Grade students have started learning to play the song “Mary Had A Little Lamb” on the Boom whackers!  Each students gets one Boom whacker while one student points to the letters (notes) that correspond with the Boom whackers.  They work together as a team to practice and perform their first “ensemble” piece.  The students rotate so they get to play each note part, and be the conductor (pointer).

.  Success!
