Bellwork for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd hours:  Reviewed using logarithms to solve an equation and also included SAT like math questions.

Bellwork for 6th hour:  Reviewed solving equations using logarithms.

The remainder of the period we discussed Sec 8-4, Properties of Logarithms.  Students used these properties to take an expression with several logarithms and write the expression as a single logarithm.

Hwk #18 is due tomorrow.    Sec 8-4

Bellwork gave students practice on solving exponential equations using Logarithms and an SAT like math question.

Hwk #16 is due today.

The remainder of the period we continued our discussion on solving equations using Logarithms and began discussing Properties of Logarithms (Sec 8-4).

Hwk #17 is due tomorrow.  Practice Sheet:  Solving equations using Logarithms.

Bellwork reviewed changing between Exponential and Logarithmic form and using this skill to evaluate Logarithms.

The remainder of the period we continued discussing Sec 8-3.  We discussed solving basic exponential and logarithmic equations, introduced the concept of Natural Logarithms, and talked about using the Change of Base Formula to solve a logarithmic equation.

Hwk #16 is due tomorrow.

Bellwork gave students practice calculating the amount an initial investment is worth at a given interest rate for a given # of years calculating interest in different ways.  They also had to match the graphs of exponential equations to their equations.

The remainder of the period we finished our discussion on calculating interest, using the formula for continuous interest which uses the number e (Euler’s constant).

Hwk #15 is due tomorrow.  Practice Sheet Sec 8-2.

Bellwork had students explore the graphs of exponential equations:  y = ab^x

They discovered how changing the coefficient, a, affects the graph and how changing the base, b, changes the graph.

Hwk #14 is due today.

The remainder of the period we continued discussing Sec 8-2 by calculating simple interest and compounded interest on an initial investment.

Students were also given an outline of Chapter 8.

The remainder of the period we finished our discussion on Sec 8-1.

Bellwork gave students practice writing and using exponential equations to find missing quantities.  There were also a few SAT like math questions involving some Geometry topics that I wanted to expose the students to.  The will receive more practice on these and other Geometry concepts.

Today was a late start day which means classes were a little shorter than normal.  The bellwork was rather long and took most of the period.
