Hello everyone! Today in class we worked on our study guide for our quiz on Chapter 11 this Friday. We completed Sections 1 and 2 of the study guide and will complete Section 3 tomorrow in class. Today after school we will have a review session for Chapter 11 Sections 1-3 in A120 (Mr. deBruin’s room) from 2:30 to 3:30 pm.

Here’s what we did today:

  • Quick Vocabulary Match-up Activity-Chapter 11-The Byzantines. Russians and Turks Interact
  • Study Guide-Chapter 11-The Byzantines, Russians and Turks Interact (Sections 1 and 2 in class)
  • Daily Objective-

o       Content Objective: SWD comprehension of the materials covered in Chapter 11 Sections 1, 2 and 3, students will illustrate their understanding of the material covered through the use of a vocabulary review activity and study guide

o       Language Objective: Students will read, and write the key terms and important concepts covered in Chapter 21 Sections 1, 2 and 3. Students will demonstrate their understanding by completing a structured study guide and following along with an in class vocabulary review.

Good afternoon everyone. Special reminder that today is the 1st night of parent/teacher conferences. Conferences will run from 4:30 to 7:30 tonight in the cafeteria, and parents can pick up report cards for their student before entering. Good afternoon Everyone! Today we continued our unit on the Byzantine Empire. We covered part 2 of Chapter 11 Section 1 by using  student led guided notes and a vocabulary matching activity. On Wednesday after school there will be a study guide session located in Mr. deBruin’s room A120. I will be leading the study session but since the Arab Student Union has there meeting in my room on Wednesday we are just moving next door for the afternoon. We will review from 2:30 to 3:30 and I am more than glad to help with any questions they may have. Have a great Monday!

Good afternoon! Today we began our 1st lesson on the Byzantine Empire. We covered part 1 of Chapter 11 Section 1 and will use R.A. style guided notes on Monday to complete Section 1. Good Afternoon Everyone! Today our schedule has been slightly adjusted in order to accommodate the 2013 Social Studies MEAP test. 1st and 3rd hour were shortened to 30 minutes each and 2nd hour has been elongated to an hour and fifty five minutes. MEAP testing took place during 2nd hour and our team (behavior wise) did a great job!!! I am really excited to see how well they scored. 4th and 5th hour watched a video as a preview for our new unit on the Byzantines that we’ll be begin tomorrow.

Following our lesion we will orally discuss the evolution of the relationship between the Byzantines, Russians and Turks.

o       Language Objective: Students will write important video facts in order to complete guided video questions that will help demonstrate their understanding of the rule Justinian the strength of the Byzantine Empire. Good afternoon everyone! Today  I will be joining several of my fellow history teachers for the second meeting of the 2013-2014 Social Studies Cohort. Day 3 of MEAP prep is in the books! Today we focused on early American history by using a video from the History Channel mini series “America the Story of US”. We played Episode 2-Revolution . Tomorrow we will spend time reviewing how to read a map and analyze historical works of art in order to continue our test prep!
